Reached 112 but forgot to take a screenshot so here is the highest ranking i took a screenshot of:
Explanation:
So, as you can see this deck has some of the key cards that are in zoo: Void Walker, Flame Imp, Undertaker etc. But unlike zoo it contains great late game like: Molten Giant, Sylvanas Windrunner, Dread Infernal and Lord Jaraxxus. The idea is to start strong, (maybe not as strong as zoo but good enough) and still have big cards to swing the game around.
Per example: This rogue here thought it was a good idea to use both his saps on a flame imp and a haunted creeper, so what happened was:
I've had these reactions multiple times and it's just amazing. But all that aside, let's continue with the deck talk.
The only board clear in the deck is Shadowflame, and i dont think more is needed since you usually use your minions to trade efficiently. Shadowflame over hellfire because you have some great targets to shadowflame: Voidcaller, Molten Giant, Sylvanas Windrunner and Jaraxxus's hero power of course. Since the opponent in the beginning usually thinks this deck is zoo, they usually use their hard removal like Shield Slam on your smaller minions, so your late game cards are safer. And with the 10 deathrattles in this deck we of course run Undertaker. Loatheb is in here to protect the board from aoe, and it's just a solid 5/5.
Guide for the hardest matchups. (Still being worked on)
Hunter:
Mulligan: Ironbeak Owl, Zombie Chow,Flame Imp, Undertaker, Haunted Creeper, Harvest Golem, Soulfire (for animal companion) and Molten Giant when you already have early game.
So, a lot of people have been struggling against hunter and that's understandable cause warlock does well against warlock in general. I always play this matchup very defensively in the early game and try to kill them as fast as possible a bit later. Example: The hunter starts strong (as usually) and you react with cards like haunted creeper, zombie chow and ironbeak owl . You always try to make efficient trades and clear the board as much as possible, Sledge belcher is a great way to stall. Once you get the turns 6-10 you fight back and become aggresive. You need to pressure with cards like molten giant, illadin stormrage and doomguard (I sometimes even play this by itself when I still have cards in hand cause hunter has a hard time dealing with it.) Once you have your board developt you play loatheb and seal the win. This won't always go smoothly of course, sometimes you just have to play defensive to survive. In that case try surviving until jaraxxus since hunter usually plays their kill commands when they have the chance so if they think they have the win cause you are at 2 hp, YOU FACE JARAXXUS
Control Warrior:
Mulligan: Zombie Chow,Flame Imp, Undertaker, Haunted Creeper, Harvest Golem, Nerubian Egg, Voidcaller and Lord Jaraxxus if you already have early game.
Another tough matchup, your early game can get destroyed by Fiery War Axe and late game can be removed efficiently by a card like Execute. So your main objective is to make them waste their removal early and let your bigger cards not die as easily. The warrior's late game will beat you, so try to end the game as quickly as possible. Voidcaller is also an important card since warrior doesn't run (many) silences, so i will most of the time get huge value.
Zoo
Combos
Sylvanas Windrunner --> Shadowflame, most of the time it clears board, and whatever big card survives gets stolen ( watch out for Sledge Beldger and other deatrattle cards)
Molten Giant,Molten Giant --> Argus, the famous handlock move.
Voidcaller--->Shadowflame, your voidcaller used as aoe, and then it summons (usually) a great demon. (always play your less good demons first if you can before killing the Voidcaller off)
Flame Imp--> Molten Giant: you often miss this play, but it sometimes can be really good to use up all of your mana.
kill Haunted Creeper when playing Knife Juggler: Amazing against the low health early game of aggro decks, it just gets you so much tempo when your Knife Juggler does well.
And of course Undertaker will become bigger with every deathrattle minion that gets played.
Power Overwhelming --> Shadowflame : Even the littelest of creatures can become a big AoE clear.
Voidterror ---> deathrattle/ Power Overwhelming: triggers dathrattle or becomes big with Power Overwhelming
Changes made on decklist:
Update 1.1
I removed 1 Soulfire because you just have to much valueable cards to discard, unlike zoo where you can sometimes even trick the effect by having an empty hand. And handlock, where you have such a big hand that you can miss some things like an Ancient Watcher.
Added 1 Power Overwhelming, was suggested in the comments a couple of times and still has the same burst potential as Soulfire but works well with Shadowflame and Voidcaller.
Since I found myself hating the Zombie Chow in the control matchups, especially warrior. I cut it for Siphon Soul, wich is just solid removal. Note: When you are playing against alot of aggro you can undo this change, since siphon often will not be that good and chow will be awesome.
Update 1.2
I came to the conclusion that there's just too much aggro to justifie running the Siphon Soul It often became a card in my hand that never got used. So i changed it with 1 Ironbeak Owl because the deck needed silence.
Update 1.3
Since Dread Infernal usually was a card that didn't do so much, i replaced it with illadin stormrage. It's just a more solid 6 drop and it's still a demon, so it can be summoned by Voidcaller.
As suggested in the comments Void Terror was added instead of 1 juggler. Juggler didn't get enough value and Void Terrortriggers deathrattles and combo's with Power Overwhelming
Another Juggler was deleted for 1 Nerubian egg, Just a solid deathratlle card, I think even though this deck only has 4 activators that should be enough to hatch 1.
Update 1.4
Added 2 zombie chow instead of 2 Voidwalker, after a lot of comments saying Voidwalker was not good enough I finally made this change. Zombie Chow is another deathrattle to make the Undertaker even stronger and is better in the early game then Voidwalker most of the time. It also won't bother your Voidcaller from spawning somthing great. The only problem is that in the late game situations it will often just give your opponent health back.
Update 1.5
Deleted the nerubian egg for 1 acidic swamp ooze, seems more reliable and solid since egg didn't always get value.
Okay, this is what i thought I should tell about the deck. Please leave stuff you want to now in the comments so i can add answers to those questions in here.
That's dumb to put in cairne as a replacement. The reason he has illidan is because it's a demon and you can summon with voidcaller. Dread infernal would be a lot better.
i guess you missed the point... ok, lets imagine that i had Dread Infernal instead of [card]Cairne Bloodhoof [/card], how that would helped me? if game usually ends up in <6 turns?
6 turn game example
The more I play this deck, the more the deck's weaknesses are apparent. I don't understand how you got to legend with this deck, other than lucky matches. 4/5 matches I played with this lost, because it lost steam, had no good draws, or the other person had the right draws. I can't in good mind call this a recommended deck. Sorry bro.
This is absolutely true. It feels very weird at first, but going to the face instead of clearing everything works. Let them crash into your taunts. I've won 11 out of my last 16 with this strategy against hunters. That's a 68.75% win-rate :)
The games I lose are generally due to bad draws or insane openings from the opponent. But that goes for most losses with this deck.
A Replace for Illidan Stormrage please?
Hey man! Love the deck, but i don't have Sylvanas! D: What do you think is the best substitution for her?
I have to say, the people who are stating that this deck is not working is right with me. Played mage, priest, hunter and lost all three. Won against a slow Paladin Deck and then proceeded to lose 3 more games, two against zoo locks and one against a Malyrogue.
Maybe Faceless Manipulator? After triggering Voidcaller's deathrattle it can make nice combo with Doomguard and Power Overwhelming.
Does Alextrasza work as a good replacement for jaraxxus?
Hey, this is a super great deck. Thank you so much for sharing. It's powerful against most classes and gives a really nice surprise to those who thing it's a standard Zoo deck. Unfortunately it has had 100% loss rate against Huntards for me, so I couldn't recommend running this past Rank5. Aggro Hunter is just too strong vs Warlock right now and most people are running aggro Hunter so that's that. Cheers.
I'm loving this deck.
Have gone 27-7 with it so far. Taking me from rank 14 to 7 in a couple hours.
The only draw back to it that I have ran into is when rng hates me and refuses to give me anything under turn 3 till turn 4, and it only ever happens when I'm facing a zoo lock or fast druid. -_-
Other than that it is highly amusing to watch my opponent use all their hard removal on my Flame Imp and Undertaker never expecting what is waiting just a few turns away.
I've played this deck from rank 8 to 6. 66 games. 35 wins. 53% win rate. Granted, that includes the learning curve. I've found the hunter match up to be very bad. I agree with some other comments, it might be worth it to throw some earthen ring farseers in. I often find myself within one turn of winning, and dying to burst.
Really liking this deck. Ton of fun to play. Kudos to you sir!!!
That being said I don't like the cards Voidwalker and Illidan Stormrage in this deck, hell Illidan Stormrage in general.
Voidwalker is good in zoo because of the multiple ways to buff it, Dire Wolf Alpha, Shattered Sun Cleric, and Defender of Argus are almost always seen in zoo and your deck only has one of those. Without multiple ways to buff it he is frequently removed without affecting card advantage, board, or tempo. Even in a hunter heavy meta with multiple 1 health early minions Zombie Chow I feel is a better card in that slot. He fights for early board better and provides roughly the same tempo boost that Flame Imp provides, in addition to synergy with Undertaker. Yes his downside is bad late game but I feel his upside is better.
As to Illidan Stormrage I can see his addition and the reasons for it, but 5 health on a six drop is meh, he only see's value if a Voidcaller pulls him and you have immediate cards to make flames. I don't know what to put in his place. I've tried Cairne Bloodhoof to match the mana cost but he doesn't do enough to affect board on turn played. I've thought about Pit Lord but that's a demon I only want to play through a Voidcaller. I may just go with the second Soulfire in that slot.
Very solid deck, I use Dread Infernal instead of Illidan Stormrage works good for me 3-0 for now, thank you bro !!!
I really like this deck. I've been struggling to make a solid midrange deck for Warlock for some time, but I get greedy with the cards I want to include so it doesn't work out the best. Thanks for the list!
I might bug you later just for little inquiries about certain choices you've made, but for now you've hit the nail on the head with your explanations so far, thanks again. :p
What is the best replacement for Illidan Stormrage? Im thinking about other six-drops like The Black Knight or Cairne Bloodhoof. Also I have Alexstrasza and Ragnaros the Firelord.
Were your superb winrate scores achieved while ranking up to legend or while at legend rank? Just curious as to how effective it might be to rank up with.
There is a significant difference with this deck in comparison with original Demon Lock deck, specifically with early game minions (no watchers, eggs etc). Like that deck, your mulligan is really a hit or miss. Personally, I like the Ancient Watcher archetype more and feel it does better competitively.
In any case, sick guide dude and awesome creativity! Keep it up :)
Seems to me to just be a variation on Realz's Demonlock, forgive me if he was not the original maker.
