Freeze Murloc Even Shaman: welcome to my refreshing (pun intended) Standard twist of Even Shaman!
Cards Explanation
First off: Genn Greymane. Why Even?
Because of GRANTED turn-1 Totem, and cheap Totem on each Odd turn. This means that your strategy can consistently rely on CHEAP tokens, which you can buff and synergise with, ON CURVE. See below for further details.
Murloc Package
First of all, this deck uses a selected Murloc core, with Ghost Light Angler, Brrrloc, Primalfin Totem and Gentle Megasaur, all synergising with each other, as well as with the token archetype inherent to Even Shaman.
Ice Fishing is there to make murloc draw reliable for combo (or emergency freeze to buy Tempo).
Freeze Package
From Brrrloc, I decided to go deeper with the freeze mojo. Freeze is an anti-Tempo mechanic, and played against the right minions, it buys enough turns to turn the tables in your favour. Avalanche looks weak as a freeze, but the addition of 3 damage is just the right measure in many popular cases: the cost is balanced with the versatility of usage. Basically, the freeze package acts as a minimal anti-Aggro core (including Handlock Giants!), while maintaining your own Midrange setup.
On top of that, I added Moorabi. Do you need him? You don't. Is it fun to play him? Damn yes. Notice that Moorabi can always act as a soft taunt, because your opponent will never let you trigger him. And if you can, it is just free value for lategame!
MVP: Cryostasis
Cherry on top: i included Cryostasis. Bad! I hear you scream. But this is the very core of the deck.
Look at it in an Even deck: you have turn-1 and cheap totems granted for the whole game.
Now, can you imagine a turn-2 Cryostasis applied on a turn-1 totem? EXACTLY: the buffed totem turns from harmless (so the freeze is irrelevant anyway) to damn deadly, on curve: 4/4 or 3/5 on turn-2 (especially if it is a Stoneclaw Totem with taunt).
Yes, better than Totem Golem and with no Overload!
Notice that a similar reasoning applies on your 0/3 totems during the rest of the game, so that they also become harder to kill (3/6) while maintaining their effects for board dominance.
Synergy with Moorabi and emergency freeze on enemy minions are free bonuses.
You got it: ALWAYS keep Cryostasis in Mulligan.
Techs and Variations
Avalanche is exclusively an anti-Aggro tech, it has no other purpose. Depending on the meta, you can sub them for Defender of Argus for a versatile board buff, Stormforged Axe for early Tempo, Saronite Chain Gang for an all-rounded board presence.
You could also consider the replacement of Frost Elemental with Argent Commander as a finisher or Bonemare for lategame Tempo.
There, hope you liked it, if so give it a +1. Thanks!
Do you think The Lich King has a place in this deck? He's a solid 8 drop and his play animation fits the deck theme perfectly :D
Absolutely!
Probably best in the place of either Hagatha or Frost Elemental.
does any1 try it, is it work ?
This deck is as nice and refreshing a ice cold glass of water. I having a blast and even winning about half the time.
Well, i couldn't ask for a better comment!
Any good replacements for Cryostasis ?
Only cards Im missing. Ill try Hex for now.
Earthen Might is the correct replacement.
Hex occupies the role of Spellbreakers. Yoh can have 1 and 1, but 2 and 1 is overkill.
Yet Cryostasis is basically what makes this deck what it is. It is the center around which many other cards can synergise.
I'm almost tempted to re-craft moorabi for the fun factor. I dusted him but I'm starting to think I should generally keep more of the "bad" legendaries I open because there seems to be so much more potential to just enjoy these kinds of creative, memey decks.
Indeed, that is a thought i had for myself as well.
In this case tho, i wouldn't re-craft Moorabi, unless you have some spare dust (considering also the next expansion).
Moorabi is fun, and sometimes game-winning, but you can easily replace him. As long as you have the other cards, your gameplay will be mostly the same.
Sure, i labelled it "off-meta" because it is out of any known scheme, but it is by no means a meme deck.
I would deem it a t2, t3 deck at worst. If you want to climb with style, this is a good choice, imo, even if not t1 by far.
Most importantly, your opponents won't be able to play around most of your (surprising) moves.
This looks neat. It almost makes me wish I didn't disenchant my Moorabi, could just replace that with Hagatha probably. I hope I unpack a second Cryostasis soon so I can play it since i'm short on dust.
You can definitely replace Moorabi with Hagatha. She's just not as cool. Literally :p
Cryostasis is indeed what keeps the deck together, but if you are short on dust you can try with Earthen Might.
Replaced Cult Master with Hagatha
Frost Elementals with Hex
Other than that good theorycrafting here, keep it up
In my concpetion, the deck was not meant to get often to late turns, but i do understand the choice about Hagatha. She's great value.
Indeed at that point you might want to use Hex as well for brutal shutdowns.
Thence, i would also suggest the replacement of at least 1x Spellbreaker as well, maybe for TLK (although playing him in the same deck with Moorabi is an offence to the whole Ice Troll Empire), or Bonemare.
Liked and favorited! I absolutely love playing off-meta decks and have been looking for an even shaman deck to play. Thanks a million and keep making awesome homebrews!
Thank you! I am glad i could contribute to the cause of homebrewing. Cheers!
Indeed, Cryostasis is MVP here (previously deemed as niche), and mostly thanks to Genn.
Haha cheers man!
It is basically my mission in homebrewing to find something refreshing and surprising that can actually compete in the meta.
Deck is alot of fun. It loses to aggro pally about 90% of the time. Fairly awesome against control matchups.
Mmh that is actually surprising. I find myself in difficulty against decks with many solid defenses, while Odd Paladin shouldn't be that unbalanced, given all the tokens that this can pull out to fend off the recruits. Mossy Horror is a suicidal but possibly game-breaking move in that matchup.
Or just Knife Juggler.
