Hello and welcome to Archmage Velen's OTK
In keeping with the typical OTK priest archetype, I have once again attempted to bring Velen and Malygos out to play and they brought a friend. (and we are back to wild mode)
If you want more information or think something is missing please leave a comment.
How to OTK and other ways to win
The basic combos of the deck are straightforward I will go over them as well as other strategies that can help lead to victory.
First combo : Malygos and/or Prophet Velen on board already. Vivid Nightmare + Mind Blast x2 this is 30 - 40 damage depending on setup.
Second combo: Same as the first but using Eternal Servitude, Resurrect, or Lesser Diamond Spellstone to ressurect Malygos / Prophet Velen or both to set up the damage.
Third combo: Archmage Vargoth, the deck has many ways to create multiple copies of the 3 creatures in the deck. Once you have Archmage Vargoth + Malygos / Prophet Velen you will cast Mind Blast multiple times.
These same setups can be used with Holy Nova to do incredible board wipes and massive healing to your board. Used with Spirit Lash can clear some very tough board states and heal you, but you will most likely lose your board as well.
Don't be afraid to attack when you have the advantage on board, a win can happen at max health or 10 health and 9 armor as long as you win. This may be built as an OTK but the point is to win. Don't get so focused on combos that you don't take advantage of easy damage.
The rest of those cards and why
Psychic Scream is straightforward board clear, with the lack of minions this card is always value. Spirit Lash and Holy Nova are great for board clears but play smart so you don't leave yourself open for possible minion swarms
Mass Hysteria Another board wipe in our arsenal, works rather well when the opponent's minions are about the same power/health or when their minions are weaker than ours. If you have resurrect options in hand this can also set you up for board state after using this card by sacrificing your own minions.
Archmage Vargoth This minion has a ton of synergy with the resurrection, copy, and summon cards. Easily get 2 of him out with any card, however with Vivid Nightmare you get 4 copies. If you can manage to get all 7 spots filled and cast Mind Blast it's easy to get 40 damage out.
Shadow Essence, what's not to love about bringing in win conditions faster, or at least a quicker lead up to it. This can also set up resurrect targets for later.
Lesser Diamond Spellstone and Eternal Servitude, Resurrect bring minions back to set up the board for late game. Play your resurrect cards back to back and you can get 1 - 6 minions on board in a combination making it quite easy to hit with a 10 - 180 damage with Mind Blast.
Shadow Word: Pain / Shadow Word: Death - bread and butter priest direct kill cards, enough said.
Vivid Nightmare, With this spell we can cheaply copy any of our minions on board and with this deck and how cheap the card costs, it makes a nice copy of a minion and still leaves enough mana to cast both Mind Blasts in the same turn. Or an Eternal Servitude and Mind Blast. And hey you can easily heal the copy as well since its damage, not a set health total. As mentioned earlier play this on Archmage Vargoth and you will end up with 4 copies in one turn. Ah, diversity.
Grave Rune Toss this on a freshly resurrected minion or one that stays in play when it dies you get 2 back. A great way to expedite combos. A bonus, if Archmage Vargoth copies this onto the same minion, you get 4!
Shadow Visions, last but not least with the number of utility spells in the deck this is a no-brainer to add. Find extra damage, healing, control, minions this card does it all in this deck. And as a bonus, it also feeds even more into Lesser Diamond Spellstone to bring it to max potential.
Mulligan(s)
There aren't too many ways to mulligan for this deck but there are some things to keep in mind.
Always try to have Shadow Essence and/or Shadow Visions in hand.
Safe bet against the majority of decks: Mass Hysteria, Shadow Word: Pain, Holy Nova, Resurrect or Eternal Servitude.
Against Mages and Shamans, do not hard cast Archmage Vargoth on curve, it will more than likely get Polymorphed or Hexed. Play it on turn 5 with The Coin or turn 6 along with a Shadow Word: Pain so you can resurrect it.
Paladins, Warlocks, and Druids sometimes it heavy early, so it's not a bad idea to have Shadow Word: Death in hand at the start with them.
Card Replacements
A couple cards that are available that are not currently being used in this deck, they are part of other versions of this deck and also options for when the decks you face start to shift.
Radiant Elemental -> Archmage Vargoth
Gilded Gargoyle -> Divine Hymn (used together withRadiant Elemental)

--Thank you for reading this far and looking into the deck. Feel free to leave any feedback and comment on how the deck played for you.--
can this deck run without malygos? i dont have him
You can run it without Malygos, however, it reduces the power output by a lot.
Some alternatives are:
Evolved Kobold
Azerite Elemental
Spellweaver
Darkmire Moonkin
If you don't want to choose a creature you could also run Velen's Chosen - the fun with this, if you cast it while Archmage Vargoth is on the table it can be cast multiple times giving an additive stat + spell damage bonus.
Pro: feels good for a whole day when you pull the combo off.
Con: it might take you a whole day to do it.
That is very true with this style of OTK.
One day you pull the combo off multiple times in succession.
Other days you don't see any love...
Man, I'm getting crushed by agros, do you have some tips?
Currently Aggro is faster than when the deck was created, it is posing a larger problem.
However, proper use of Spirit Lash, Holy Nova, and Mass Hysteria can make a difference.
Some of the common mistakes (not saying this is you) are using these too early or too late.
If the opponent has two or three 1/1 or 2/1 minions then Mass Hysteria will be overkill. However, if you are playing a mech-hunter/pally then you will need to take that into consideration since those minions will snowball fast. Shadow Word: Pain and Shadow Word: Death are also staples for mulligans.
Unfortunately, there are no specifics I can give, much of this also comes down to knowing the meta at your rank and the most common matchups you will see and mulliganing for them.
There is a constant learning curve as you go through, I generally get to diamond 5 as a casual player and every new rank cap requires relearning the common decks of that cap.
I will try to get some new videos up for the different caps as the metas shift.
I'm testing this out, currently 1-3 at rank 5.
I look forward to the feedback!
This deck gets smoked by odd warriors who can ramp up their armor to ungodly amounts. Shouldn't Holy Smite be in the deck instead of Divine Hymn? Keeping Velen and Maly on the board is near impossible against most opponents also. What are the mulligans for this deck? Is this really the BEST Priest OTK deck out there right now?
There are decks that can defeat this. That being said this is only one variant of the Velen+Maly OTK deck. This is not the best nor is it the worst version of this deck. Considering you can get 80 damage to face with this deck there should be some chance to still take out armor warriors. Again though there are times where you get no love from RNG.
Holy Smite vs Divine Hymn - if you are getting matched against a bunch of odd warriors then by all means swap them in favor of what you need to win. There is no one version beats all when it comes to Velen OTK, adjust as needed.
As for noting the mulligan guide, I hadn't actually written one up when I made this original post, and you are the first to ask about it. I will start working on that today and get it posted as soon as I can.
Thank you for taking the time to look this over and commenting.
How if your drakes and velens get killed each time you summon?
This is a nice strategy but I would prefer an otk from nothing on board.
Not quite sure if I understand completely but let me give a try.
I expect that Velen and Malygos will get killed, that is why there is ressurectionin the deck. It is very possible to use Lesser Spelstone Diamond and 2 Mindblast on the same turn. Bring back Velen + Malygos + Elemental - that makes Mind blas cost 1 mana, making it abel to play 2 (with 1 mana let over) and Both mindblasts together do 40 damage, OTK.
As for nothing on board, if you mean board wipe and then otk then it is possible as well. Though some combo play may be necessary.
I need to get a recording of game play with the deck, I am currently on a 6 game win streak. The deck works just takes some practice.
Got it, didn't thought of the elemental.
And I found my velen got hexed or mind controlled all the time qwq
There are indeed other versions of this deck out there, that is the joy of a community site for this giame. Also this is the first rendition of this deck I haven't played it more then a handful of times so no edits or adjustments made yet.
No card draw - that is correct, I haven't played enough matches to see how often card draw is needed or how much is needed. I will keep this in mind thank you.
As for the interaction between Free from Amber and Lessder Diamond Spellstone, it can indeed make for 5 individual minions which only 4 of 5 can be ressurected. Again I haven't played the deck enough to see how often this occurs and to veriy the need to adjust.
Sorry for only having the first rendition for you to look at, and not a polished version. Curiousity though, have you tried this deck yet? How did it play?
Thanks for the feed back.
I will start tinkering thanks for the card choices.
I've always enjoyed Velen decks, I just haven't had the time to really push at building one for the last couple season/releases.
Exactly what i was thinking :))
Seems to be a theme here.
Thanks for looking at the deck.
Doesn't Amber ruin the reviving spellstones?
Talked about this in a comment above.
Thanks or the feed back.
