Hi friends!
It's part three of the Witchwood budget deck series! You can find the other decks in this series over in this Youtube playlist!
(Games start at 10:40)
Over the last few expansions, Druid lists have become expensive! Let's gear things to be cheaper AND faster and see how we go! As always, here are our criteria for the series.
Criteria:
- No set dust limit.
We don't want to set an arbitrary number to go by, but still be conscious of how much we are spending and provide downgrade/sidegrade options when available. We also want to generally steer clear of Epics and Legendaries. - Focus on the CORE of a deck.
Let's define the absolute necessities of the deck. Identify what the strongest cards are and build around that. - Have a reasonable upgrade path.
Using budget versions of existing archetypes provides players with the ability to spend more dust to have a 'complete' deck. This way, if someone enjoys the deck or has more resources, they get more bang for their buck! - Prioritize cards that aren't rotating.
While we won't see another rotation for a long time, we want our dust to last a long time and should consider cards that will last.
With that in mind, let's take a look at the core of Aggro Druid;
The Core:
2 Argent Squire
2 Dire Mole
2 Fire Fly
2 Mark of the Wild
2 Power of the Wild
2 Crypt Lord
2 Savage Roar
2 Soul of the Forest
2 Fungalmancer
Go wide and close the game out with Savage Roar has always been the aggro Druid game plan! Check out the above video for a more in depth talk on the core cards.
Filling things out:
2 Glacial Shard
2 Amani Berserker
2 Dire Wolf Alpha
2 Vicious Fledgeling
2 Saronite Chain Gang
These are some powerful workhorses but there is definitely some room to move based on personal preference. Other cards to consider are Cobalt Scalebane, Bittertide Hydra or Tortollan Forager for more late-game power, Leeroy or Lifedrinker for reach, or Branching Paths for a little bit of everything.
The Flex:
If you are struggling against certain match-ups on ladder, use these slots to hedge.
Feedback:
Think this deck is too far out of your budget? Got some card suggestions? Had some good/ terrible luck with the list? Let me know! This project will be ongoing and I'm always looking for ways to improve.
I'm also looking for suggestions on the next deck for the series! You can hit me up here on Hearthpwn,Twitch or Twitter.
I didn't realize how great Vicious Fledgling was until I started watching your streams. Great Budget deck! Keep it up!
Thanks so much for the support! Will hopefully have some budget Boomsday decks coming soon!
For this deck, I'd recommend instead moving towards some of the lists I mention at the start of the video. Those will have a better performance on ladder if you wanted to invest more dust!
Great write up! Thank you!
Thank you for the support! It means a lot to me!
I keep running out of gas by turn 7-8. If the match goes beyond that, I’ve got an empty hand and no hope. On the flip side, pretty much always get ahead in the first 5 cards. Duskbreaker, Flamestrike and the like are killers.
Totally understandable and that's the game that we are playing! Soul of the forest is really important in those match-ups, so try to maximize it. Other than that, my main tip would be to slow down and think about how the next few turns are going to play out.
Need some clear and carddraws
While both of those things are generally powerful effects, a lot of the aggro game-plan is about efficient deployment of good threats and staying on board while you do that. Nourish is an expensive spell that requires us to take our foot off the gas for a turn, and draw minions like Loot Hoarder and Acolyte of Pain are not big enough threats to apply pressure.
The only card that might be worth considering is Swipe, giving some flexibility and reach to the list. Try it out!
Im Going to Try 15 Games 5 for getting used to it and then try it for real Posting Results when over
Awesome! Can't wait to hear about your results!
What cards should I look for in the mulligan phase?
Great question! All a deck like this wants to do is curve out and control the board. With that in mind, we are looking for a 1-drop minion (though not Glacial Shard against classes with 1 damage hero powers) and a 2-drop to follow up. You can also consider keeping a 3-drop minion (particularly Fledgling!) on the coin OR when you already have a 1 & 2!
