OK, so, having played quite a bit of 'Big Rogue', my first thought seeing Naga Sea Witch bumped to 8 casting was that it could now be cheated out with Silver Vanguard same as other 8s were before in Big Rogue. So, gave this a try, using the cheap half of the Big Rogue shell, but all the Giants I had at the top instead of Ragnaros the Firelord, The Lich King, and KelThuzad.
First observation was that Silver Vanguard, a key cheat piece, didn't really work as a two-of... when you draw both NSWs, its just too dead. So I swapped in the Doll Master for one. Idea being it still requires NSW to be in the deck to get a 1/1 out, but leaves you a playable in hand, and when you do suck into both in hand early, its not actually dead, as at least it costs less and still gets you some other minis in play.
Then I realized, you really need the three Big Rogue 8s to have full value from the Silver Vanguards, Kobold Illusionist, and Barnes, so, my latest build takes out some of the giants to make room for them.
I believe the end result (and my impression so far from a too-small sample size at the 12 rung) is that it will have the same issues with aggro that Big Rogue had (maybe worse), but that it seems to have a better mid-game and a potentially stronger long game than Big Rogue did. Getting that Turn 5 kill isn't really the objective here as it was with true Warlock Naga Giant... the lack of draw makes filling the board unlikely. But it can add a twist, a bit of mid-game, and extended reach to the old Big Rogue list.
As such, mull the same as for Big Rogue (for Illusionist/Vanguard and removal), and maybe Rotten Applebaum in some matchups, and just survive till you can start cheating or hard dropping big things. My initial plays have shown that you can often get Giants out on their own one or two at time without the Naga effect, in the midgame, which does give it push Big Rogue only had with the cheats.
I may try to find a way to get Spiritsinger Umbra back in, maybe in place of the Doll Master, but want to play it a bit first before deciding.
This is definitely still an experimental deck, trying to resurrect NSW, as I loved her in my Fat Boy Jack deck long before the early patch broke her, and so, I hate dusting her. The nice thing is, even if you dusted her, you have until June 2 to recraft her (or craft her for the first time) with no risk and try this... you can always dust her again for a full refund. As an experimental deck, would love to hear comments about changes you made to improve it.
So how is the deck performing?
Tbh, I fell in love with Taunt druid and ranked with it to 5... probably wont give this another shot till the next season starts, but will tinker with it then and post stuff. I did conclude that it needed Spiritsinger Umbra before I switched, though, and I put that in for Doll Master. But I didnt get much testing done after that before I switched. Will let you know more later!
So, after further testing and tweaking, I have to admit, I dont think this experiment was a success. I cant seem to get the basic core concept to work with any consistency mixing the big rogue package with the naga giant package. 1/1 giants are no good, and Naga is pretty bad if you dont cheat her out. Which should come as no surprise, given that's what the nerf was supposed to do. But I had to try.
I will say, that I tweaked so much trying, that eventually I came up with a version which looks nothing like this that is working for me in the mid teens (where I ended up in wild), but my ranking efforts are focused on Standard now, and I dont see playing it enough to validate it as being more than good in the garbage ranks. If I do, I might post it as a new deck, but otherwise, writing this one off.
If anyone else comes up with changes that give this idea any consistency, would love to see it, but I am done trying it on my own.
Can u share that Taunt Druid deck please?. Thanks!
Sure, as soon as I finish my quests on (free to play) Asia server today, I will switch over to NA, copy it and post it here for you.
Here is the Taunt Druid deck I have been running. Its not my list, but one of about three variants which are all within one or two cards of each other. Some do not run the Tar Elemental, opting for a Wrath or an Ultimate Infestation instead. Deck is weakest to Shaman (Hex really messes up Witching Hour) and at a disadvantage against most Mages (Polymorph wrecks it too) and against Miracle Rogues, but otherwise fares pretty well if you can figure out how to pilot it.
Mulls are pretty easy...pitch everything except Wild Growth and Nourish (unless you have one of each, then, maybe keep the third card, depending on match-ups). First Nourish played is almost always to ramp with this deck, although there are a few exceptions.
Never play Hadronox unless you can Naturalize it (be aware Master Oakheart can bring it out, too). Goal is get 1st Hadronox [/card]off for at least 3 taunts, then when that board gets cleared, the [card]Witching Hour brings Hadronox back, either Naturalize or Carnivorous Cube it. Repeat.
The Lich King is the best Taunt Minion, and if possible, you want it before your Hadronox (not always possible) so you get doubles late in the game.
Against some matchups, your goal becomes fatigue, but most, you just out last and kill them. Tricky to pilot till you figure out the matchup plays, but fun learning. Very high win rate in lower ranks, still solid at higher.
