One of my favorite thing to do when playing warlock is pressing that Life Tap button every turn and I thought what can be better than making it cost only 1 mana?
Being able to Life Tap on turn 1 also allows you to play Mountain Giant as early as on turn 3 going second, and follow it up with Faceless Shambler or 4/10 Twilight Drake next turn. When going first, you can play 2 drops like Doomsayer, Darkbomb, or Vulgar Homunculus on turn 3 and still get to play mountain giant on turn 4.
You get to draw so many cards over time with this deck and although you are paying with your health to do so, it also enables Hooked Reavers and Molten Giants. The deck is also filled with board clears and taunts so it deals with aggro extremely well.
Against Control decks, you can put the pressure on them very early with giant minions that is quite hard to deal with. You can out-tempo them most of the time and even if they somehow dealt with your threats until late game, you have powerful late game finisher with Glinda and Infinite 0 mana Molten Giants. I crafted Glinda just to try this out and it actually happens more often than you'd think. (https://imgur.com/a/4mjkd3A)
This deck is very favorable against Even Shaman that rose in popularity recently and deals with most aggro decks pretty well. Many control/combo decks like Warlocks and Druids have hard time dealing with early giants and twilight drakes and I'd say Big Priests with top deck Barnes were toughest opponents I faced on ladder.
Once Naga Sea witch gets nerfed(if it gets nerfed), I could see this to become a deck to play when you want to slam down bunch of 8/8s on the board.
Mulligan Guide:
Against Aggro: Doomsayer, Defile, Darkbomb, Vulgar Homunculus, Hellfire(Shaman), Lesser Amethyst Spellstone(with Vulgar Homunculus or hellfire)
Against Control: Mountain Giant, Twilight Drake, Faceless Shambler(going second with Mountain Giant)
On some cards not included:
Emperor Thaurissan: I included this card at first since I always have many cards in hand but it felt too slow vs aggro decks.
Target Dummy: I wanted to test this out with Glinda Crowskin to put down infinite target dummy wall on turn 6 but against control decks, you would want to save Glinda to play with Moltens and it is too optimistic to have 1 copy of target dummy and Glinda together on turn 6 against Aggro.
Dark Peddler: Decent two drop and definitely a card I would include in 2 mana slot if deck wasn't 30 cards max but alot of times you would rather just hero power for 1 mana instead of discovering random 1 drop.
Defender of Argus: Faceless Shambler was much superior option when you have a giant on the board.
Refreshment Vendor: A lot of times you are the aggressor against the control decks and sometimes you don't want to heal for 4 in order to enable Hooked Reavers and Molten Giants.
This List Look pretty awesome +1
I would play this deck, but I don't have enough dust ;-;
I Love standard Gennlock and I imagine I would like this deck too.
Geez i love this deck ,, Thanks alot! Rushing wild ladder with it atm.. 70%wr with 20 games so far,. I adde 2 dark peddlers since i missed one faceless and a molten giant but it works like hell anyway, its almost impossible not to draw your combo so this is good shit
Playing a non-even decklist with a similar idea to this one. Most likely going to craft Genn Greymane and try this list though, cool deck!
Thanks, good luck on the ladder :)
I'm actually also experimenting Genn Handlock in wild last April and had lots of fun. It definitely have potential but I was not able to optimize the decklist.
Your deck looks really good though. Addition of mossy horror is a great idea.
Also, I think hooked reavers are a must as I've won quite a handful because of them. Shroom brewers felt like dead card most of the time as they are counter intuitive when you are trying to hit 15 life asap for those buffed reaver drops and early moltens. I've felt that buffed amethyst spellstones provide enough heal so that you wont be bursted down. The only time I've wanted those extra heals are when I'm facing Baku Hunters (which are extinct now in wild. Thank goodness)
I updated the decklist and now it includes hooked reavers again and also some more demons to improve Guldan DK.
Has anyone tried or considered a highlander version of the same deck? Reno would help mitigate the constant tapping, and all the tapping would increase the chance of drawing it. Since wild has so many cards, it's probably quite easy to find replacements for the cards that are included twice in the deck. Having both mountain giant and molten giant means you have two targets for Glinda, so having one copy of each may still be enough. I would try but I don't have Glinda.
Yes I thought about Reno Even Warlock, but that is too much card restrictions for the deck in my opinion. It will be hard to make it work with current card pool, however I could see it becoming viable in the future as more cards get added.
Have you experimented with variations including Dark Peddler, Refreshment Vendor, Defender of Argus, Blast Crystal Potion, Emperor Thurassium and Sylvanas Windrunner? Thoughts on them?
Yes I have experimented with those cards.
Dark Peddler was decent but a lot of times your 1 mana hero power is better than discovering random 1 drop. As for Refreshment Vendor, sometimes you do not want to heal the opponent or yourself, Shamblers are better than Argus, Blast Crystal is currently not needed, Emperor Thaurissan is bit slow, and Sylvanas as well.
Finally a list that actually makes good use of Glinda. I'm tired of seeing Penguins everywhere, that's such a lame combo. Giants much better. :)
Yeah I dont think penguin combo is good at all. Even Target Dummy is better too.
you should add 2x Dirty Rat, otherwise you lose to every Togwaggle Druid, Malygos Druid and other combo decks
Good idea, I think i'm gonna give it a try- ty very much :D
Dirty Rat can be an option if there was alot of AviKun Druids but I can usually beat them pretty consistently without the tech card just by pressuring them with my giant minions. Just do not overextend into poison seeds and keep pressuring them with 1 or 2 large minions
Which one is the better optimized deck? the one in the screenshot or the one on the current cards list?
I've been optimizing the deck and just updated it with the latest version which has highest winrate
Saw this deck on Hearthstone Top Decks. It seems way cool! I crafted the few Hooked Reavers but am struggling to win. Could you possibly provide a brief guide? Thanks! Looking at your other decks I really like your stuff. Cheers
I wrote a brief guide and mulligan guide however if you have any questions I can answer
Updated and added a guide, thanks
