Now that we are a week into the new expansion, the meta seems to be more defined than before and most powerful decks are standing out so far. Ranging from even/odd Paladins to Shudder Shaman, the meta seems to be really diverse and open to discovery. If you're facing too many control decks and are looking for a successful deck with a high skill cap, this deck is for you.
Recently, Rage hit #1 legend using his quest rogue list. What's unique about this list is that it runs 2 copies of vicious scalehide in favour of the more traditional fire flies. Since the nerf hammer struck down Patches, most Quest Rogue lists stopped running Valeera the Hollow due to the fact that it was too slow against most of the aggressive archetypes, and control match-ups were a win way more often than not.
However, with the potential for more control decks in the newly formed meta, as well as the fact that most aggressive decks have slowed down because of the rotations, Valeera seems to be a very solid choice against control and, more often than not, aggressive decks. Through the use of cards like Glacial Shard & Wax Elemental, you can easily extend the game long enough so that you would get an opportunity to play your Valeera, which would ensure that you would never run out of juice for the remainder of the game.
Your primary goal is to complete the quest as fast as possible, while maintaining a reasonable health total that guarantees your survival. The best possible 'bounce' target to complete the quest with is Novice Engineer, since it gets you even closer to completing the quest with every draw. This deck is quite difficult to pilot, so don't be put down if you find it difficult to play, even many professionals think so.

As usual, video that spotlights the high-end potential of the deck. If you are confused on how to pilot the deck, make sure to check the video out, as he explains every single move he makes.

Rank 13 with Quest Rogue feelsgoodman. Hope to hit legend.
Card draw. Lots of card draw. Card draw gets bounce cards. Bounce cards complete the quest. Completing the quest has you win.
Sooo fun! I’ll just wait till the nerf announcements after HCT and IF the deck survives it, definitely gonna recraft the quest and try it
I've been searching the woods for a deck that brings back to fun in HS. I've played Odd decks, Spitefull Druid and Tempo/Keleseth decks... But all seem to bore me at some point. But THIS! Quest Rogue is amazing! Such a nice way of playing. There are so many different type of games. Love it!
How to replace Zola? Sap, perhaps?
Zola + valeera = infinite minions. if you also have scalehide, that's infinite heal. Zola brings this deck to a whole new level.
I put in cheat death
You cannot replace Zola. I know it's expensive, but she's just so fucking good. Not to mention she's also really good in a lot of other decks, so if you craft Zola and this deck gets nerfed, you'll still get a lot of mileage out of her. Trust me, you won't regret crafting her at all.
Aggro is a bad match-up for Quest Rogue, so replace a sap with a second fan if you're having too much trouble. Other than that, just play the deck right!
cant win vs aggro but its almost freewin vs heavy control decks, i did manage win only once vs quest rogue on the way from 5 to legend this week :(
ye it's basically auto loss vs tempo mage since u will be taking 5 damage to the face every explosive rune and u can't really stop the damage. but overall you can still climb with this deck by farming the slower decks.
Those who play the deck now and also played it a year back:
Does missing "I'm in charge now!" make deck feel better or worse to play?
I only need to craft quest for this and thats my final consideration. Whenever I played against this deck before it just had that special feeling when 5/5 pirate came out of the deck. Does it have that same charm to it anymore?
I agree with GrD, the loss of patches doesn't sting. What does hurt a little is the loss of Gadgetzan Ferryman, which, combined with the nerf, means that it takes a few more turns and more luck to complete the quest. On the other hand, a 5/5 divine shield taunt and 5/5 rush with lifesteal more than makes up for patches. Zola the Gorgon and Sonya Shadowdancer are also an amazing new additions to the deck, so Gadgetzan Ferryman might even be considered overkill if it still existed in standard.
Rather than asking about decks power without Patches I was trying to be funny. :D Thanks for analysis anyway, I went and crafted that quest today and didn't regret it. Feels amazing to play this deck which was so prominent when I started to play this game. And it works against big part of the field!
I can't get enough of the valeera + scalehide + zola infinite minion combo. I have outlasted all other control decks with this combo alone. Once you start the combo, it's just watching your opponent trying to clear your minions every turn until they concede
Not sure about crafting this deck or odd rogue. Any advice?
I've hit top 1000 legend with both. Quest rogue is more difficult and is bad against aggressive decks, but very strong against control. Odd rogue has many even match ups and faster games. So I would go for odd rogue
If you hate cubelocks as much as I do, this deck is for you. When using this deck, cubelocks will look as harmless as infants and you can just toy with them until they concede.
Wow, first time got legend, went 37-11 exclusively from rank 5, nice :D Was playing version with 2x Fan of Knives (without Valeera the Hollow, really good deck!
I feel like valeera is very key to this deck tho and you are losing a lot of potential by cutting it out. valeera allows you to generate infinite minions when used in conjunction with zolo. If used with scalehide, it's infinite healing too.
