This deck idea came to me when I looked at Countess Ashmore and thought about how to maximize her value. Which Lifesteal, Rush and Deathrattle card would be the best to pull out from your deck. The idea for this deck was sparked!
This is how it works: if you play Countess Ashmore on 7, it will always pull 2x Vicious Scalehide and Kathrena Winterwisp from your deck which you can then play on curve on turn 8 (Kathrena). If you haven't drew King Krush or Charged Devilsaur, you will recruit those. The other way you can go is to Dire Frenzy a Vicious Scalehide before turn 7 and turn them into 4/6 Lifesteal Rush which you can draw with either Countess Ashmore or Kathrena Winterwisp for incredible healing!
The healing provided by the Dire Frenzy + Vicious Scalehide combo is so insane that it will keep you near max health the entire game! The survivability of this decks makes you able to use Deathstalker Rexxar to its fullest potential! The targeted Draw and Recruit from Countess Ashmore and Kathrena Winterwisp makes the deck super consistent!
You MUST hit the Dire Frenzy + Vicious Scalehide combo at some point. Don't play both Vicious Scalehide with no buff!
The early game consist of the secret package wich is quite efficient. I do recommend keeping Countess Ashmore in your mulligan though as it will make your late game unfold smoothly.
Sure this deck is a bit expensive but definatly give it a try. It's be by far my favorite deck since year of the Raven has launched!
Mulligan Guide!
Always keep one Stitched Tracker. Your #1 tracking target is Countess Ashmore, #2 is Kathrena Winterwisp or another Stitched Tracker if you don't have countess yet.
If you have Lesser Emerald Spellstone mulligan for secrets.
Against Aggro: Candleshot, Explosive Trap, Unleash the Hounds.
Against Control: Countess Ashmore, Deathstalker Rexxar.
Updated to improve Odd Pally match up.
Update #2 improving consistency with Stitched Tracker
-1 Flare
Houndmaster Shaw felt difficult to play on curve and the payoff of getting rush on spellstone is not even that great so I cut him. Stitched Tracker is a solid addition to the deck where you can make sure you hit Countess Ashmore every game or extend your late game value with more dinosaurs.
Update #3
The deck needed a 3rd dinosaur to recruit so I first added one Charged Devilsaur but then I came to realize that Swamp King Dred is almost always played around by my opponent and I'd rather recruit a 2nd Charged Devilsaur. Also keeping only 6 different minions in the deck helps Stitched Tracker consistency.
Yes! I've been playing a similar deck since the witchwood was released, basically drawing out the vicious scalehides with dire frenzy and secrets. I think it is real fun, except reallllly bites when you don't pull dire frenzy..
I like to use witchwood grizzly because when he's recruited, it avoids his battlecry, and only run freezing trap, wandering monster, and explosive trap...also run flare and harrison jones. Who says hunter doesnt have card draw? Lol
Real shame I dusted king krush months ago. WHYYYY???
yeah, i just figured out some similiar build, but i prefer double highmane instead of charged devilsaurs and flanking strike over kill command, it's just so much better tempo for defensive/lategame deck. As for secrets i use double snake, double explosive and double monster, i found that this combination just wrecks the paladins and other aggro, and freezing traps are kinda useless without early game board control/presence.
This deck is also so well structured - it basicaly consists of 3 modules - spellstone package, healing package and lategame package, it is realy easy to tweak and have a very clean game plan.
Anyway, glad that someone else figured this even before me. The deck is sweet and i like hunter :D
Just an update to say I used this deck in the Brawlisium this week and went 6-0 and then 7-3 (damn quest rogue beat me!) But yeah, this deck beats Control Lock and most aggro deck if you can stabilize (lifesteal + dire frenzy combo). This deck is one of the best hidden secret! I'm gonna use it to rank again this season!
The deck looks awesome. A bit slow, but with the secrets might have some responses to aggro.
I'll definitely want to try, gonna have to craft Countess Ashmore
Countess is neutrel and should be more useful with the next expansion...I hope...
As soon as i saw this deck i wanted to try it........Most fun ive had with Hunter since Reno first came out and i tried to make Reno Hunter work.
Ive managed a 60% winrate over about 50 games(climbing from 15 to 10). Almost always go for Dire Frezy on Vicious Scalehide, the healing and board control that gives is what makes this deck great. It allows you to really harness the power of your DK because you arent always in fear of dying.
The update to DK Rexxar has also made the card pool A LOT stronger, combining anything with Vicious Scalehide is heal + board control. And the new Rush/Poisonous minion is HUGE combined with Cave Hydra
I'm happy you liked it! It's a very fun deck for sure! I have around 66~70% winrate (over 100+ games) with the deck but there's a bunch of casual mode games in my stats. I'll add a mulligan guide.
im missing king krush anything to replace him with?
Charged Devilsaur or if you're really on budget any big beast with no deathrattle rush or lifesteal effect.
I really like the idea, but:
Flare makes little sense nowadays (because tempo mage is not that much of an issue), tracking just seems better (card draw + choosing + deck thinning).
Snipe is very easily played around, and there are not many good targets. It was good back in the day when everyone run azure drake and there were plenty of miracle rogues, so you could kill their auctioneers, but nowadays, not so much.
Regarding snake trap, I think this deck doesn't benefit from it all that much because it lacks early game.
I'd probably add wing blast and second candleshot as replacements
These are good changes. Should be considered by the creator for sure.
Thanks. I'd try them myself, but I don't have kathrena nor dred and I'm a bit short on dust :(
Really like the idea of the deck though
Thank you for your suggestions. I will definitely try them out. I feel like some secret can be changed too. Freezing Trap, Explosive Trap and Wandering Monster are solid though. I cut Flare and Houndmaster Shaw to add some Stitched Tracker. I'll keep working on this deck.
Kathrena Winterwisp is core to this deck but Swamp King Dred is not. You could add a Charged Devilsaur or another big beast with no deathrattle.
👍
y not include Witchwood Piper u would be pulling Vicious Scalehide every time
That's an option, there are a lot of room to swap card in the early game. I rarely play Vicious Scalehide before turn 6 so I never really had problem drawing them. I feel like this deck can be improved even further. I will be making adjustment in the next days.
good deck
