Not sure what I am doing wrong either but I cant win with this deck. I was up to 6 with a different version of the secret mage but switched to this and lost 5 in a row. Not sure what the synergy is.
Update: Yup after losing all the way down to 9 from 6 Ive abandoned this deck
this is the deck Im running now - hit full star rank 6 so far.

Make that 10 in a row - It just doesnt work. I cant even make it to turn 7
well hes also playing at level 12 - I played it at 6 and got destoyed
Thanks Muxtar I'll check it out
I am currently playing a very similar home brew to this, and starting at rank 5 no stars, I am currently 9-1 with this deck.
I think it's you man.
i just hit legend with it from rank 5 don't know the win rate though.
For anyone wondering on the pally/warlock matchups, they are both just better decks.
For cubelock/control warlock. You want to get as much damage through early with your creatures that you can. They will eventually slam big taunts, so creatures eventually lose out. Unless you get a crow out early and pump out a few creatures quick, I wouldn't put much priority on it. Just get your mana wurms out and pump them aggressively until they wall, then aim burn spells to the face and ignore creatures/the board.
For pally, you want to fight for the board early and when they start to kick way more guys out than you can keep up with, run everything into the face. If you're unsure of when to flip the switch, always prioritize damage, even if you lose the board early you can still burn them out if you draw well.
Versus dudes, don't hang onto your cards for so long. Get stuff on the board early rather than saving for a super big turn.
Versus Warlock be aggressive and actually I recommend teching in Sheep
I've had no success with this deck in ranked. I started at rank 7 (where I was with my old tempo mage) and I've only lost. I can win in casual but that's about it. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but it's stressin me ouuuuuuuuuuut. I've read through all the comments to try and figure my issue to no avail. I made the changes TychoDirge suggested but maybe I should just go with what's in the original list and try that.
What are the main matchups you are losing?
In ranked I've lost all games (started at rank 6, down to 8 now). Since my post left little room for anyone to help me what I'll do today is document every game I play and post the results here at the end of the day.
One question I have is should I be holding my low cost spells (coin/breath of sindragosa/mirror image/arcane missiles) until I can either use them with Vex Crow or Archmage or just use things as they come? I've leaned towards holding on to them as long as I can but maybe that's part of my issue?
Also by no means am I saying this deck is bad. I'm just trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Results from yesterday:
is there any substitution to Aluneth? I really wouldn't like to craft this so early into the meta. I don't have Antonidas either but i have a deck without it. however Aluneth seems to be in every current mage deck.
i have Jaina if that helps..
No Jaina does not help. Jaina is a control tool that lets you drag out the game with a lot of value and health. The goal is to beat the opponent, not drag out the game, and that's the point of both antonidas (to generate more burst) and aluneth (to draw into more burst and minions and allow you to use them indiscriminately without caring about running out of steam).
As a replacement, you could try adding a second pyroblast, or some other direct damage spell (don't think there are any other good ones in standard though).
Am i the only one who keeps getting pyroblast in the first couple turns and then just being a dead card
im the only one having trouble with palli deck? VS other classes is very good, i lost only vs palli
I actually have a pretty decent record against odd pally because I can usually time when to use my counterspell to stop their turn 5 play and once I get Crow onto the board it's really difficult for them to buff their minions up enough to trade everything away. It's even pally that gives me the most trouble since they have consecration and blessing of might. I know a few people are saying to go with arcane explosion, but from my experience a well timed Arcane Missiles is perfect with dealing with their 1/1 minions with taunt and/or divine shield. They lose so much tempo when you can clear one of those out with a perfectly timed Sorcerer's Apprentice into Arcane Missiles that it's usually too much for them to recover from.
Against Paly you need to mulligan for Mana Wyrm and Arcane Missiles.
oki, thx mate
