I've actually been playing this deck without Aluneth, and swapped it out for Bloodmage Thalnos. I found that Aluneth would mostly just deck me out and kill me. I haven't missed it at all to be honest. I'm not sure if Thalnos is the best option, but he helps me from time to time and he's an easy extra draw. I've ranked from 8-6 with this build so far.
Unlike K&C Tempo Mage, Aluneth is definitely a finisher.
Is this an aggro deck mostly?
Aggro to get within burn striking distance. If you're waiting for your finishing burn damage, play for tempo. Crow, Wyrm, Apprentice and even Tony are all threats on a board and your opponent will likely take the time to kill them. Think of the damage they absorb as healing if you need to throw them out there to get to your winning state.
Would adding Dollmaster Dorian a good fit here? since the draw with Aluneth can lead to a full board of interesting 1/1's
Similar to the challenge with Archmage Arugal, I doubt it's consistent enough. The deck is spell-heavy and you have no way to guarantee any of your draw will pull a minion. However, if you've got the cards it's always a good idea to test run it and see how it performs!
OMG Vex Crow is so strong, especially in this deck. I dusted a bunch of legendaries on my f2p account to craft this, and I don't regret it. I get value out of Vex Crow every single game and I haven't lost yet. I can't believe I haven't seen any on ladder in my main account yet. I didn't believe Trump when he said that it was 5 stars, but I stand corrected. I highly recommend this deck for any f2p players who have some extra dust to spend, because every card that is epic or legendary in the deck will see play in other decks in the future, except maybe Aluneth.
Get rid of pyroblast and add arcane explosion :^)
This deck is really bad
If you want to criticize the deck maybe you tell us why this deck is bad and bring some arguments
2 wins in 15 games...maybe its bad card draw....
Awesome deck, but in 2 matches the crow summoned Lorewalker Cho, and screwed up my game -.-
But its a good deck, very good win rate with the actual messed meta!
Has anyone tried playing without Archmage Antonidas? I don't think I'll craft it specifically for this deck.
You should craft him anyway
I accidently put in Jaina Frostwhatever instead of Antonidas and she ended up winning me the game. I wouldn't suggest it thought.
Archmage Antonidas shows up in several Mage decks so it would indeed be a good one to craft. He is also the reason (Along with Vox Crow) that we have so many low casting spells in this deck.
I rely on him a lot on this deck. If you haven't gotten Aluneth and need another fireball to burn you opponent down, Tony is your man. The deck runs plenty of cheap spells so you can drop him on turn 8 or 9 and get a fireball or two for the coup de grace.
From some of the comments, I think many people don't understand how to play this deck. It is actually strongest against Paladin, not weakest. Vex Crow can easily build a stronger board than a Paladin. You don't want to spend your turn trading away his Silver Hands. You take you two drop army and you punch him in the face. Let him worry about clearing your board, not the other way around. You just need to get him into striking distance for your burn damage and can usually finish them off before turn 10.
That said, there are some tweaks I've made to the deck based on matchups that I've had.
+ Counterspell
- Explosive Runes
Explosive Ruins is not as good as it used to be thanks to Voodoo Doll. It is a dead draw against spell hunter. It's bad against Warlock when he plays Possessed Lackey. It still is great when used correctly, but you can't just throw it out there. Counterspell, however, has many more uses right now. Use it to counter Call to Arms or [Dark Pact] or anything a Shaman tries to cast.
+2 Arcane Explosion
-1 Breath of Sindragosa
-1 Arcane Missiles
Arcane Explosion is too good against Paladin and Hunter right now. The down side is that it costs two instead of one, which limits its use with a Crow. Until the number of Palys and Hunters slow down, though, this card will save you from being run over in the first 2-3 turns.
This is pretty much the missing guide for the deck. Thanks man, you rock!.
