Tomorrow will releases the new expansion The WitchWood and I wanted to share with all of you one the the decks that I want to try. I love shaman and control, but over those, I love control shaman. The new set has been released and I have to say that Blizzard has solved one the problem of my favourite class, running out of cards.
As Shaman, if you play control Shaman or elemental Shaman vs control, you´ll run out of fuel soon. With Hagatha they solved this and the lack of draw. Even if you want to play elemental Shaman, this deck owns a lot of minions, which it's usually a problem against aggro. So this deck contains 22 minions to get value from Hagatha, plus 7 spells, 3 of them aoe, 2 removal and 2 heals . I want to try this deck since the day 1 and I know a lot of people are going to play aggro or tokens to get free wins. No worries, we have plenty of taunts and aoe to keep them to line. Maybe I'll have to make some changes and improvements, so I'll keep you informed about what I think it's the best way to play this deck.
This guy is the one I'm concerced. Control Shaman is really slow, and Cubelock can take advantage of it. So these are the core cards to beat it:
Hex : Always try to uses it on Voidlord or Doomguard, so they can't bring them back.
Spellbreaker : To silence their cubes or Voidlord. I don't know if I should put 2 of them. I'll find out tomorrow.
Aggro: we are going to lose a lot of great spells, as Evolve or Maelstrom Portal. Great spells against Dudedin, or any aggro or token deck.
Lightning Storm: great against Dudedin.
Healing Rain : I think that 2 of these are enough to keep you alive.
Lifedrinker : great card to combos with Shudderwock and to restore 3 heal.
Core Cards:
Hagatha the Witch : essential if we want to play this deck or any control deck with Shaman.
Shudderwock : it's the main card on this deck. It's our win condition.
Saronite Chain Gang: Well, it's not the stronger taunt, but it helps in early game. We need it to summon copies of Shudderwock.
Lifedrinker : It helps to restore our heal and to punish our opponent. With Shudderwock is great!
Witchwood Piper: You should be asking "Why did you pick this card?". Well, shaman lack of draw, but this card is great in this deck. It leaves a 3/3 body and draw a minion. So it has sinergy with Hagatha.
Baleful Banker : This card will allow you to obtain one copy of a minion. More fuel for Hagatha. But you can even get his battlecry on Shudderwock, which it's great to add more copies of him in your deck.
Rank:
I've played 3 games until now: winrate 100%.
-Big Spell Priest: won. He ran out of cards. I didn't need to use Shudderwock.
-Spell Hunter: won. He ran out of card and gave up.
-Handlock druid: won. over 15 turns and gave up.
-From rank 10 to 9.
Experience with the deck:
I didn't need to use Shudderwock in any of the 3 games. 2 of them I could, but Hagatha the Witch did all the job. With her your hand is over 8 cards. Maybe I'll cut 3 or 4 minions to add more spells.
Changes:
-Bogcreeper : I have been playing without him for 3 games. In any of them I've had my hand empty or with 4 cards or less. This card is unnecessary.
It's doing well so far and there is room for improvement partly because people can play around hagatha, but there seems to be way too many minions to spells so maelstrom portal would probably be a good idea for this deck. Otherwise than that this is a solid deck and a great way for people to play shaman again. It's also a great counter to spiteful priest which seems to have picked up lately.
I cant seems to win with this deck...... (I dont have Zola)
Any replacement for Zola? I have got everything else.
First match: face off with odd face hunter. By turn 8 I had him down to 3 HP and sustained myself at 14. I was holding Shuddwock, but didn't have to use it cause he was out of cards too and conceded.
Second match: Rush warrior. He overdrew his whole deck by turn 10 and I still had 27 HP, he conceded on turn 11. All rush minions seem to have low health and a well placed Volcano/Lightning storm just clears board so efficiently.
Third match: Mage, archetype = Elemental Hand? Tried to flood board with elemental synergies and a ton of card draw. He couldnt get past all my early taunt, spell generation, multiple WA->Baleful->Piper plays. Then i started getting my drinkers into play and with a Zola copy, he conceded turn 11 when I had him down to 18, cleared his board, healed to full, and dropped 4 minions in the same turn. A randomly generated zap sealed the game for me.
Biggest Surprise: In a control deck, Witch's Apprentice is actually a great card. Early game fucking MVP. Haven't needed Hagatha or Shudderwock yet, I'll keep you all posted with more results.
Meant to add: Lifedrinkers are the lifeblood of this decks midgame.
I'm 1 and 2 in 3 unranked matches. Lost to Hunter and Paladin. Funny thing is I beat a Priest who managed to steal copies of Hagatha and Shudderwock from me.
