Hi! My first upload here, so please bear with me. (Updated for the October season.)
As a hearthstone player since beta, I have always enjoyed rush/aggro decks to climb the ladder: zoo, face hunter, shockadin, coldlight rogue. These decks are fun because you either win fast or lose fast and as a result you spend less time on your grind up. However I've found that (with the exception of pre-naxx coldlight rogue) these decks peter out at rank 3-4. Control decks take over, now strengthened by many post-naxx defensive cards.
The purpose of this deck is to provide you with a tool to make that final push to legendary. Depending on the meta (which at the time of writing is Undertaker Hunter) it may not be the best laddering tool, so use your regular deck until you're stuck. In the September season I was able to get legendary in one, short afternoon from rank 3 where I had been stuck for the better part of a week. Getting to rank 3 I used Icegirl's Copperfield deck, which I had great fun playing.
The deck fares well vs. most control set-ups such as Priest and Warrior and is not too shabby against Zoo either. It struggles versus Undertaker Hunter as without a good Undertaker and Swipe / taunts start it's just too hard to keep up. Handlock is hard to win against as the deck has little against two 8/8 taunted giants.
Update Oct 11: I've replaced Harvest Golem for Unstable Ghoul to counter the swarm of Undertaker Hunters. The downside is that control Warrior is now slightly harder. I'm also debating the wisdom of KT as often the card just sits in your hand. Lastly, with Sludge Belcher and Defender of Argus in many decks I'm thinking of including The Black Knight.
The deck incorporates four main areas:
Deathrattle: The deck runs 10 deathrattle cards and a lucky start with Undertaker and any combination of Haunted Creeper, Loot Hoarder, and Harvest Golem can quickly spin out of control (for your opponent).
Ramp: Though minor, the inclusion of Innervate can expedite the play of Sludge Belcher (more deathrattle!) or Druid of the Claw, defending against aggro and quite the threat themselves. It can also speed up the use of the Force of Nature / Savage Roar combo by a turn or two.
Card Draw: Six cards speed up the card drawing process, giving you faster answers to problems on the board and getting you the combo faster. I went with Azure Drake as I often ran into Priests and it couples well with Swipe and Wrath. Ancient of Lore, other than drawing you two cards, can be a life-saver in aggro Hunter or Warlock match-ups. I did not include Bloodmage Thalnos as I simply do not own that card, but I'm not sure if I would add it if I did. (Though it could be switched for a Loot Hoarder or Drake).
The Combo: This deck runs two copies of Force of Nature and Savage Roar each with the aim of increasing the chances of you having the combo by turn 9. Although this increases the chance of dead cards, I find the heavy card cycle gives me plenty of other options. At times, the extra copy of Force of Nature saves the day by killing off scary aggro or a nasty taunt.
And lastly, a force in itself is Kel'Thuzad, which pairs well with most of the elements above: extra card draw through Loot Hoarder, extra mind control through Sylvanas Windrunner and taunts that won't die.
The mulligan speaks for itself: Keep Undertaker and 2 and 3 mana deathrattle drops. Keep big taunts if you also have an Innervate.
As said, I'm not an experienced Druid player but this deck was a lot of fun. With the many avenues it can pursue I truly found it a deck for all seasons in the current meta.
Revisited this deck, streaked from rank 14 to rank 8 but dropped to 9 immediately after hitting deathrattle hunter/priest. Hunters blow me up and priests just significantly outtrade me. Any tips anyone?
Replacement for Sylvanas and Cairne?
Update Oct 11: I've replaced Harvest Golem for Unstable Ghoul to counter the swarm of Undertaker Hunters. The downside is that control Warrior is now slightly harder. I'm also debating the wisdom of KT as often the card just sits in your hand. Lastly, with Sludge Belcher and Defender of Argus in many decks I'm thinking of including The Black Knight.
I dont see any Unstable Ghoul in the decklist ?
Lovely deck! climbed from 17 to 10 in an extremely short time. I often find KT a dead card because either I finish games before I draw him and if I do have the chance to put him on board I often find I have lethal or can set up for lethal next turn (he's a win more card i think) also in my time playing this deck I still have yet to put him on the board! What should I replace him with? Also instead of cairne don't you think TBK would be better?
I've been thinking the same on both TK and the Black Knight. I'm sitting on enough dust to craft the latter so I just might. Happy to hear the deck is working out for you!
i just wanted to give some feedback for this deck, as ive been using it for the past few days, and gotten significant results: 20 wins and 8 losses from rank 8 to 4. Great job on making this deck, this is the first time i actually comment and rate a deck, because these results are just insane.
Thanks for the compliment! I'm happy the deck is working well for you. I'm at 4 as well at the moment but sadly I still face many Undertaker Hunters making it slow going :(
really? hunter is one the highest win rates, 7 wins 2 losses for me
Winning Streaks :)
May they take you to legendary! :)
This deck is an absolute blast to play, the versatility/synergies of the deck are amazing. The best part is you get to play early minions without them being dead cards in the late game, I've already got a turn one undertaker-haunted creeper-golem. And it feels like KT/Cairne/Sylvanas combos happen a lot, so does Drake/Swipe...and you can race fairly easily while still being able to draw your whole deck. Everything I like about aggro is in this deck, amazing!
Should probably add that this is rank 11-12, only thing I regularly lose to is deathrattle hunter/hand lock, but what druid deck doesn't
I'm also struggling with Undertaker Hunter as they do damage at a pace that's too hard to keep up with. Changing Haunted Kreeper and Harvest Golem for Unstable Ghoul and Shieldmasta has helped a bit and sturdies the deck up vs. zoo as well. I'm currently jojo-ing between rank 3 and 4 and failing to find the traction I need to continue. At the moment it's certainly not the slam dunk it was last month. I'm thinking of crafting the Black Knight and replacing Cairne.
Yeah, I just got double eaglehorn bow and double kill command before turn 10...between that and ridiculous thoughtsteals from priest I've stagnated as well :/
Wish aggro druid curved a little better...
Have you gotten good synergy with Kel'Thuzad in this deck? have you tried other 8-drops to substitute it's place :)?
KT can be a game winner versus slower decks like control warrior, mage or fellow druid. Sadly though when drawn early versus rush (hunter) he's quite the dead card.
What do you think about ysera? it's sort of a sticky minion and has a chance to give you more sticky minions for a burst roar combo, as well as a chance at nightmare. Or maybe even black knight?
Hi! I'll give you some honest advice and will tell you to wait until the meta has settled, and/or you have achieved rank 5+. The reason is that the lower ranks are flooded with the new deathrattle Hunter deck, which my deck just can't keep up with. I was able to gain legendary only in the last week of the September season when midrange and control were 'hip'. Players tend to switch to a slower deck after they reach rank 5 and here the Druid can out-muscle them.
Sorry to hear the deck isn't working out for you. As I've admitted a number of times the deck does little vs. Handlock, but control warrior should be a very favorable match-up. What rank and server do you play on that has 90% of the decks you mentioned and only 10% zoo and hunter?
Remember, the deck got me to legend from rank 3 onwards when the decks you face are a little different (at least in the September season). If it doesn't work out for you, try something that does!
This deck needs a bgh. There are sooo many handlocks on ladder right now.
