Hey guys! Today I have a very special deck for you, Big Mage with which I managed to hit LEGEND RANK 1 and have very solid winrate in TOP25. Deck is quite hard to pilot properly, but I am starting to get very comfortable as I played over 100 games in top legend with it.
It is great for climbing winrate wise, but games take a long time and often go to fatigue, so I recommend it to get through that last rank you have problems with, and climbing with something faster from the lower ranks.
Take care of everything your opponent tries to do while getting card advantage with mass board clears and Cabalist's Tome. As your opponent starts to run out of breath, you take over the game with Frost Lich Jaina. If something bad happens on the way, you come back from dead with Ice Block and Arcane Artificer.
You can almost ALWAYS KEEP Arcanologist, Raven Familiar and Dragon's Fury. It is sometimes correct to mulligan some of these, but it is very rare, and even in those circumstances the difference between keep/mulligan is not that big.
On the other side of spectrum, ALWAYS MULLIGAN Ice Block, Baron Geddon, Flamestrike and Dragoncaller Alanna.
Doomsayer is amazing against aggro and horrendous against control, so keep this in mind when mulliganing.
Polymorph is amazing against one of your bad matchups, Warlock. Save them for their Voidlord which will make their a lot weaker.
Arcane Tyrant is a good keep if you already have a big spell you want to keep such as Cabalist's Tome or Dragon's Fury.
Frost Lich Jaina is sometimes too crucial in control matchups so you can keep her there, but mulligan her against everything else
Blizzard can be a keep against Paladin, I mulligan it everywhere else.
Ice Block makes sure you stay alive no matter what, and after your opponent manages to trigger it, you come back with double Arcane Artificer combined with something like Meteor or Flamestrike, which will solve the board and get you back to comfortable life total. Keep in mind that now your opponent has to deal somehow with these Arcane Artificer, which might be problematic for him.
Cabalist's Tome gives the deck some extra value, which is very important as games often go fatigue.
Dragon's Fury is an insanely strong boardclear for it’s price. This deck runs mostly expensive spells, with the cheapes one being Ice Block, but you will get rid of these from your deck thanks to Arcanologist. With card like this Hearthstone Deck Tracker comes really handy, as you always know how likely it is for you to clear the entire board or leave something with just 1hp so you can finish it with your greatest win condition, Frost Lich Jaina.
Speaking of which, Jaina is absolutely amazing and capable of taking over the game on her own. She can help you survive fatigue for a long time thanks to her healing ability, and generates a ton of value over the game. She is also amazing with Baron Geddon, who is an Elemental, which means he can gain you something like 16 life when played while doing his “board clear” duty.
Frost Lich Jaina is a total must for this deck, but other than that you can play with your legendary constellation a bit. Both Dragoncaller Alanna and Baron Geddon are very good but not mandatory in the deck.
Cards you can replace them with are Elise the Trailblazer, Medivh, the Guardian or even Firelands Portal.
You can also sneak in Tinkmaster Overspark if you are playing against a lot of Warlock and need that third Polymorph which is amazing against that deck.
Thanks a lot for reading guys, if you want to see it in action, make sure to check out this video as well!
Cheers

Been trying out the deck but not sure if it is the meta on the ladder atm but been losing left and right. So far 0-6. Been facing mostly cubelock and there is no win condition with them all they have to do is wipe your dragons with twisting nether and then hit you with their lich hero. Any ideas on how to win against them?
Id say yes, Just wait till it rotates so you can play in wild
Took out both dirty rats(I only have 1 anyway and since it's rotating out there's no reason to craft a second) And added 1 spellbreaker and one geist(for druid/warlock)
Went 8-2 so far only losing to a hunter due to very bad draw and ironically a control mage. I honestly think tinkmaster would make this deck even better. Sadly i dont have it. Many of my games comes down to Jaina and water elemental heals. Only 1 game was won with alanna.
This deck works but requires you to double check every play and making sure it's the right one. Almost every game will come down to fatigue but thats the nature of control decks.
Currently rank 11.
thanks for your nice deck,, i have all cards,, but am facing alot of warlock and some jade druid,, is there any chance i can add Geist? if yes, which card i should replace? btw,, am at rank 4
I really like the deck and it wrecks aggros. The problem is Warlock... How do you guys manage to beat them?
In the late game, your only board presence is the Dragon Caller... if your opponent has twisting nether, you are done...
What would you advise?
Frost Lich Jaina [/card]is key in this matchup, play her as soon as possible. Also saves [card]Polymorph for VoidCallers.
Even if I play Jaina turn 9, guldan is able to outvalue going into fatigue cause he has lifesteal and if he keeps the board clear, Im not able to summon the elementals. I'm just going to try Alexsztraza + pyroblast and see how that works...
I am trying this out but teching in a spellbreaker (2 would be ideal) for a Dirty Rat, for now anyway...
I play a lot with big spell mage in Legend, and in my opinion this build is more anti-aggro focused with arcane tyrants and Baron Geddon. If you want more favorable matchups against control decks, make your deck heavier with Medivh, Alexstraza and Firelands portal.
If Frost Lich Jaina is at the end of your deck it's pretty much GG most of the time for me. Traded raven familiar for coldlight oracle for that 1 extra card draw
Any suggestions to replace Baron Geddon?
Sorry, I see now where you said it:
Elise the Trailblazer, Medivh, the Guardian or even Firelands Portal.
Running with Yogg.
i think elise is not a good replacement since she puts a 2 cost spell to your deck
Here's original deck
Stan, you are my idol i love all of your decks.
I play since closed beta, all your warlocks and mages archetypes are amazing (that old handlock <3)
Keep it up mate, you are a beast!
I climbed to rank 5 with a big spells mage. Very good matchups against Priest and Warlock. Against paladin or secret mage, you have to get pretty lucky.
Also Skulking Geist makes the main counter to this deck (jade druid) a hell of a lot easier. Unless it's the second last card, which I experienced a couple days ago -.-
It takes quite a bit of skill to pilot, but you can beat most meta decks with this. An eater of secrets also helps against the mage matchup. You have enough clears to deal with any paladin (with a bit of card draw luck, of course). Don't be afraid to play a Dirty Rat very early on in the matchup.
For ranks 10-5 I would recommend also eater of secrets! Too many secret mages and sometimes hunters or rogues that uses secrets
One would might think that adding a copy of eater of secrets increases the winrate but its actually the contrary. Its such a shity card in 70% of the matches and even if you have it on hand, against an opponent with a secret in play, its in most cases not gonna change the outcome. On top of this its a huge tempoloss to play a card with horrible stats.
Yeah it might be true! But in matches like sercet mage you get punished hard with big decks
I've been experimenting with Second-Rate Bruiser and Bright-Eyed Scout in these Big Spell Mage decks and it synergises perfectly. No idea why more people don't include it in their decklists. It's just a shame that it will be rotating to wild soon.
