This variation features the infamous Flamewaker in what came to be known as Burn Mage. Yes, there is RNG, sometimes the Portals generate garbage, Glyphs discover 3 Glacial Mysteries, or Mana Wyrms and Flamewakers happen to be the bottom cards of your deck, before Aluneth ofc. 
That said, if drawn well, it presents a hard counter to the CTA Pally infestation, Cube madness and sometimes even the token dragon priest, if they don't swarm you early.
