Hi everyone!
I'm SexyNerd, a Latin American Hearthstone player, how almost every season climb legend and sometimes make top 500 or 200. Some of you may remember me for my Warrior and Priest control decklist. Good Old Times :')
Today I hit top 100 legend with this Mage Control. I hope you like it and it works for you.
Any question you may have, I will be happy to answer.
With more than 100 likes, I bring to you a mulligan guide as fast as I can.

Would like to hear your thoughts on my Control Mage. http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/1056064-pr0d1gy_hs-control-mage-top-40-na
Don't know about this one. Looked good on the paper, but performs quite poorly in my hands. Now, I am a mage main and played my share of all kinds of mage deck archetypes with different success. This version of control mage just doesn't work for me.
Funnily enough, I've had more success today with standard "Spells are fun, so fun" deck recipe than with this one. Ah, well, leave to the more capable players then. This is a legend deck after all, can't be that bad.
why is dragoncaller not in this deck with so many big spells? there doesn't seem to be many win conditions here. and baron is only good against aggro
gameplay in english if someone interested
anything to replace baron?
Try Medith. More Value.
Man, not having epics is suffering. At least crafting a good legendary feels satisfying when you know you gonna abuse that up to the sky where is the limit. Alternatives for epic 2xDragon's Fury and 2xMeteor?
dragons fury is a really good board clear but flamestrike should suffice, and meteor is great single target removal. Maybe add primordial glyph to try and find what you need.
Don't exist realistic substitute.
you could remove any number of spells if they aren't doing much against the decks you're facing for tech cards you want.
beside the rat is rotating out soon.
You do not need the weapon removal at all vs cube lock. Mage should already have the means to outlast a warlock, if you're smart with your removal spells. I play a more traditional big spell mage though, with Alanna, Medivh. Just be sure to polymorph Doomguards and the matchup is easy peasy.
I do agree that it needs Dirty Rats and a Geist though. Dirty Rat helps against the paladins which are like 40% of the meta, and it can screw up priest too. Not to mention getting rid of Dark Pact.
Mage needs a lot of luck to outlast a warlock... you need to draw Geist early to burn his sacrifices or he will drop a doomguard/voidlord (from lackley, skull) and then cube it and sac cube in one turn... btw that alone is 15 dmg in one turn cos of charge and leaves 7hp doomguards behind... you will die when he summons n'zoth or guldan cos that respawns all those fuckers and the cubes... Only a lucky dragon breath can deal with it (blizzard+doomsayer almost never works cos of spellstone)... Also u have to spend sheep / meteor on mountain giants around turn 4-5... Then there's faceless manipulator that can copy doomguard, mountain gaint, voidlord or even cube... If you don't luck out and dirty rat his cubes/nzoth and draw geist then you are fucked... Destroying his weapon is not necessary but it gives you more time to draw responses... Mage class is nowhere close to warlock's power level atm
I guess luck is definitely at least a bit necessary, but that's kinda true in all matchups. I'm just going off my personal stats with this archetype haha. I feel I have a better chance against warlock than paladin (a matchup that requires even more early luck).
Anyways, yes, weapon removal will help you if you're struggling in that matchup. Otherwise I think you can successfully outlast them.
One of the best cards.
I really like Baron Geddon too but recently switch him out for others. Although he's good for clearing low heal minion as well as heal a lot when DK is on, but without the DK he's a double edge which also damage you. And 2 AOE damage most of the time is not good enough to clear big board (especial there are many 3 health minion in this meta, void walker for example). His 5 health is also big disadvantage.
While i find that Twightlight flamecaller is much more useful, he will let DK's HP easier to land (many times my opponents left their minions at 2 health so I can't ping it)
Also I cut 1 Arcanologist cause she's a dead card in control MU (until you draw both Ice Block) which will let you go farther in fatigue. Because the deck is already favours against aggro so no need 2.
Lastly, I'm greedy, and facing a lot of control deck, I have Dragoncaller Alanna, Medivh the guardian and Alextraza in the deck as well. Forgot Harrison Jones, a good card against paladin and cubelock.
Cutting Arcanalogist is not a good idea for me
1) The card is used to thin you deck
2) You must cut Mediveh Valet too if you want to cut arcanologist as it makes Medivehs valet less effective
3) Less chance of drawing 3 damage spell with Dragons Fury.
This deck has taken me all the way from mid rank 3 to rank 5 with not a single victory. Absolute shit.
It is a tough deck to play correctly, which you most likely are not doing :/ If you'd like coaching you can PM me though.
