Hiyah once again, I'm back with another control mage list and this one (By some miracle) has a 72 percent winrate and is 10-0 Vs Warlock with 50 games tested soooo yeah, If you guys really want a guide just post that you guys would like one in the comments section, (even specific classes is fine), and maybe even leave a like if you like the decklist and feel free to leave a comment on how you think I could improve the deck, and as alwase the dislike button is over there if you think the deck is trash and think I have no hope.
Winrate Proof:
Winrate VS Warlock: And once again THIS IS ONLY VS WARLOCK
You asked so I delivered, here is a mulligan Guild for each class, enjoy :D KEY: + = only keep if you see BOTH parts,
Paladin: Doomsayer, Frost Nova + Doomsayer, Tar Creeper, (you will see those 3 alot VS any class with a tempo/ Agro deck) Dragons fury, Acolyte or Arcane Artificer if you already have a strong hand, Raven Familiar.
Priest: Doomsayer, Frost Nova + Doomsayer, Tar Creeper, Dragons fury , Acolyte, Polymorph (for spiteful and big), Raven Familiar. Arcane Artificer
Warlock: Doomsayer, Frost Nova + Doomsayer, Tar Creeper (believe or not Zoo's still a thing, it's not just control), Polymorph, Skulking Geist (ONLY WITH A REALLY GOOD HAND) Dragon's Fury , Raven Familiar.
Mage: Doomsayer, Frost Nova + Doomsayer, Tar Creeper, Dragons fury , Acolyte, Raven Familiar.
Hunter: Polymorph (Because Barens on 4 SUCKS), Doomsayer, Frost Nova + Doomsayer, Tar Creeper, Dragons fury, Acolyte (ONLY WITH A REALLY GOOD HAND), Raven Familiar, Arcane Artificer (WHEN YOU HAVE A REALLY GOOD HAND)
Shaman + Warrior: Umm are these classes anymore............. Alrighty then, Doomsayer, Frost Nova + Doomsayer, Tar Creeper, Dragons fury, Raven Familiar
Druid: Doomsayer, Frost Nova + Doomsayer, Tar Creeper, Dragons fury, Raven Familiar, Acolyte, Skulking Geist, Polymorph (only if you are seeing alot of big druid),
Rouge: Doomsayer, Frost Nova + Doomsayer, Tar Creeper, Dragons fury, Acolyte, Raven Familiar,
Isn't Lich King a bit weak in big spells mage decks as other cards like dragoncaller alanna, elise or medivh just do a better job at it especially in fatigue matchups. You only have a chance to get the board clear doom pact or frostmourne, the rest of them falling short which is basically a 1/4 chance to get a good value card. I do like the lich king as a card but in all honesty you only ever see it in big spells because of revive/create a 1/1 or a 5/5 copy into end of turn gain a lich king card. Other than that the deck looks solid, just concerned about the lich king being underwhelming in this list.
Any advise for Alexstrasza replacement?
You ca try Alanna (In some matchups is better than Alex) or Medith. :)
thanks for the suggestion but sadly i don't have Alanna too. guess can't play this deck....
Alexstrasza is a card that is used to either close out games, or to heal out of range but most importantly it is a late drop card, so if you are looking for a card to replace her with and you cannot use Dragoncaller Alanna, you can just replace it with another big card (like Sindragosa or even Primordial Drake. in addition you can also use a tech card depending on what you are seeing in at your current rank, ( like weapon removal or Dirty Rat). Hope this helped :D
This deck is garbage. No winconditions. How do you get away with posting this garbage?
I see two and half win conditions. Did you see the decklist right or are you just a rank 25 player?
That's my interpretation considering I see 2 possible wins even three: I see Burn Potential(spells), I see tons of control and basically Outliving/Killing your opponent with elemental healing.
i understand cold light oracle is rotating out but would you use that rather then acolyte?? also wondering if dirty rat has a place in this deck,
The Coldlight Oracle vs Acolyte of Pain argument is super interesting in terms of deck building, so I'll break it down here. So Coldlight Oracle is a very interesting card as it has the "downside" of making your opponent draw cards instead of just you which can lead to great advantages and disadvantages alike. Meanwhile Acolyte of Pain is a much more standard card as it doesn't effect your opponents game play meaning they both can't gain and even potentially lose value in the same way Coldlight Oracle can. However in this deck I believe in this deck it does more harm than good because of the way this deck prefers to use draw.
First it is a dead card Vs nearly all agro match-up's. The main weakness off this card in general Vs something like Acolyte of Pain is that it's place Vs agro is borderline Unplayable while acolyte can still be so and potentially be very strong because of it's ability to draw potentially 3 cards or heal you for the attack of the traded minion (which most of the time is at least 3) which is a utility that Coldlight can offer because the agro player 9/10 doesn't lose anything by not trading. Not to mention Vs agro most of the time you giving them more resources is more detrimental that the help you get from your resources.
Next is that the card's good match-ups are mostly already really good for this deck. Now moving to the other side of the spectrum there are some match-ups that the card and win on it's own for example the mirror or warlock for 2 reasons, one is that Coldlight Oracle unlike Acolyte of Pain in the later stages of a control game is a live card while acolyte most of the time is a dead card, and two you can overdraw your opponent there most important cards like Frost Lich Jaina, Bloodreaver Gul'dan, or any big minion from a big priest. In a vacuum this seems really strong, that is, until you look and see that the deck already has a really good match-up Vs all of the, Ice Block control mage will almost always lose to this decks because they run less good cards and the match-up goes into fatigue where if you play it right, Ice Block will never get to go off, and the warlock win rate is above for proof of that match-up. In essence this deck is losing points in match-up's it's bad in to gain points in match-ups it already wins and preferably we would want it the other way around.
Finally, Coldlight Oracle get alot weaker because of the amount of "big things" we run. As good as the Coldlight Draw engine is for decks like Kingsbane rouge, Unlike our deck we are unable to dump our hand out with 0 and 1 cost spells when our lowest costing spell is a 3 mana spell that we either wanna hold for a Doomsayer or to stall the board for a board clear next turn, not the kind of card we want to be dumping. Coldlight Oracle is great in decks that look to draw lots of cards fast and dump there hand out, or are looking to mill there opponent out and were kinda the opposite, we are looking to control the board with our resources while running out opponents and Coldlight Oracle goes against that game plan, that's why I chose Acolyte of Pain instead. (Damn that was long lol)
Meanwhile, I think Dirty Rat has a place in this deck if you are feeling like you are running into decks that have key targets or you feel you can take the greedier tech if you think Tar Creeper isn't pulling it's weight in the deck. because overall Tar Creeper is a better card Vs agro, while Dirty Rat is better Vs Control (Especially sense we can counter almost any minion with a Polymorph).
Right thanks for that very in depth explanation. I've been roaming around rank 4/5 and have so far found equal success with cold light dirty rat variants of the deck. I have even found in some match ups primordial drake has been a valid replacement for alex or the lich. All in all great deck for its purpose though, very good at controlling the late game. I tend to have lots of close games with greedy priest decks and finally wear them out to fatigue by my final card.
I am finding that frost lich jainas ability to summon frost elemental the most vital source of late game tempo, especially when cards are on the low.
@xfinity I could not say it better. And yes, Tar Creeper can be the switch to Dirty Rat vs more control decks.
And those are real concerns, the problem is those decks lose to ALMOST EVERYTHING ELSE, and currently quest mage is representative of less than 3 percent of the current meta, (TBH I haven't seen a quest mage this or last season). A card, in my opinion, doesn't deserve a spot in a deck if it is a good card 6/100 times you play a specific class that isn't currently in the top 3 (which would be paladin, warlock, priest) and the deck on it's own only has a 43 percent win rate, it is a valid argument though if you want to put Ice Block in your deck because, for some reason, your running into a abundance of quest mages, that's fine but In my experiences it is a unneeded card and why I believe this deck works as well as it does
This deck is great, I won every game against pally, warlock, hunter and priest.. i played 20 games now and lost maybe 4 (2 Big Priests)
Quest Mage is unlucky but you face them in 1 out of 50 games? So..
Hey Xfinity9296,
The deck looks pretty solid.
I would appreciate a mulligan guide from you.
Here, have my like!!
I have placed you Mulligan Guide in the description of the deck, I hope it fits your qualifications :D
Another deck with 70 +% winrate ..... that's why this website is bad for decks
Hello,
One small question: what do you recommend as a replacement for The Lich King and the second Meteor?
I was thinking Dragoncaller Alanna and maybe second Flamestrike
Thanks,
