Remember C'Thun? Well I do, and our favorite (free) Old God is still standard, but we never see him, so I thought I'd revisit him.
Been having great fun, and pretty good luck on ladder with this take on Quest / C'thun Druid. The early C'thun cards fuel some great quest swings with Corridor Creeper and Menagerie Warden that apply some solid midgame threats while setting up for powerhouse late game.
I mean, as is obvious, it can't be understated that every minion you draw after playing Barnabus the Stomper is free! Save your Nourish and Ultimate Infestation for massive draw and board presence, and the beauty of a giant C'Thun is that he ignores control (cough)Raza (cough) by launching damage on play before your opponent can interact. Just play smart and slow to maintain pressure, your hand of free large minions isn't going anywhere, and most of them require the same answers, which your opponent has a limited supply of.
I teched in a single Eater of Secrets for the few quest mages, as they gave me the most trouble otherwise, and aggro is hit and miss depending on luck of the draw, but that's not new.
I don't have many decks shared here yet, but feel free to share any comments, replacements or general thoughts, as I'm always looking to improve, though I tend to enjoy the off-meta deck styles.
Anyways, good luck and have fun!
I'm trying to get in some fun c'thun games before it gets phased out of standard. Wonder what would be a good replacement for creeper. Maybe keep one in?
I really need to update this since the patch, losing creeper has made this a little tougher, because you also lose the great synergy with Warden. I hope to experiment in the next day or so, but feel free to share any comments or insight if you play around with it! Gut reaction might be some ramp, silence, or early minions/board presence. Maybe even more c'thun cards like doomcallers and such.
I just tried this deck out on the ladder. I am a low level player (rank 18) and it got me a 4 wins in a row! It is very fun to play - Thanks for sharing this deck.
Glad you enjoy! It's not suuuper competitive, obviously, but can still have some great matches with a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing!
any replacement for ixlid?
I ponder that too, and to be honest, he pulls good turns, but unless you use him on C'thun, you could easily replace him with another scalebane for less vulnerability to dragonfire, or just about any other fun large minion you just want. I've considered trying to slot in a Doomcaller, as an example, for more C'thun.
More removal for early game, or even a single Spellbreaker, just in case, might not hurt.
Thanks. That's the only card I miss for this deck. I was thinking that Doomcaller could indeed be good too. I'll give it a try.
I really like c'thun decks, but struggle to make / find decent ones that work. Looks good, but i'm missing the quest. Is it worth crafting?
Ya know, it's hard to recommend crafting it unless you really like playing around with Druid, since there are so many higher power cards for the meta (or in general), like death knights, weapons, epics, princes and pirates, and i'd argue that even then, there are more reliable druid decks that don't need the quest. That being said, it's a fun card and quest, so if you legit have the dust and nothing else to craft, and you know you like big minions anyway, it makes for fun games, especially since it leaves opponents scratching their heads.
Probably not. I have everything but Lich King so I made it and it feels very clunky mixing C'Thun with the quest when neither are very good even when the deck is 100% dedicated to them. C'Thun just isn't good in this meta anymore unfortunately.
