Sick of playing and versing the same 5 decks over and over again?
So am I, so I've been messing around with one of the more difficult archetypes, the control shaman, so far hit rank 5 from rank 12 this season but I still feel like this deck can be improved a bit so feel free to provide some card suggestions.
DECK RUNDOWN:
This deck is taking advantage of a seriously undervalued card, Guild Recruiter to pull out some mega value from either Drakkari Defender or Flamewreathed Faceless for some huge swing turns.
We're also taking advantage of the classic Earth Elemental and Ancestral Spirit combo to stall out and take the mid-late game victory.
The jade package is standard in any Shaman control deck but if you don't have Aya Blackpaw you can try replace her for a 2nd Thing from Below
Finally the Lesser Sapphire Spellstone is your shock finisher. You'll be surprised how often you managed to duplicate a triple Earth Elemental with Ancestral Spirit on it into an immediate concede by your opponent.
It's also a great card to cast on a 0 cost Corridor Creeper to pull 20/20 worth of value in one turn.
HOW TO PLAY:
The deck can be a little tricky to pilot at first and requires a lot of knowledge of what your opponent is likely to be playing, however there are a few basic rules against particular archetypes.
Aggro:
Our favorite opponents are aggro decks, particularly lotus druid and paladin, we have so many tools to deal with them it honestly feels unfair. So if you suspect your versing an aggro deck make sure you mulligan hard for any of your AoE, your Devolve, and Drakkari Defender is also a great card to have in hand.
Against Aggro all your trying to do is clear board and set up enough unbreakable walls until your opponent gives up. Make sure to prioritize clearing board instead of swinging for face, though you'll have to make judgement calls on when to swap to the classic SMORC tactics.
Control:
Against control, you really want to have Lesser Sapphire Spellstone in your hand right at the beginning. Otherwise the way to beat control decks is by playing Flamewreathed Faceless by turn 4 or Guild Recruiter by turn 5 so make sure to keep these cards in your mulligan. The basic plan against control is actually to win by turn 7-8 before the opponent can clear our massive health minions.
There really just isn't enough respect for a turn 4 7/7 these days, it's time for people to fear shaman curve once more.
That's your basic run down of how to play and what this deck does, will provide a more detailed mulligan guide if we get enough interest.
Have fun and look after your cows, and remember, cool kids don't play highlander priest.
EDIT: Hey guys here is a video of Kiwiinbacon piloting the deck.
With all the interest this deck has garnered recently I will be putting up a detailed mulligan and match up guide. So look forward to that!!!
New archetype, and posts my deck (i made in theorycraft season) with Creeper instead of Snowfury Giants :D
Its definitely hella fun and can get some wins, but wont compete against the meta decks from what i experienced
I admit the deck has pontential and may be fun... but it's just not playable in current meta... :( ...it's way to inconsistent... and you rearly pull the combo off...
against aggro it's just too slow...
against cubelock/control warlock... you can't outvalue it... and a ton of removal negates the potential value of the Ancestral Spirit...
raza also shits on it with multiple silence effects... :/ ...not to mention: Psychic Scream
It is a good deck but you are correct in that in the current meta it has issues. Honestly though if Shaman had better and more reliable card draw this deck would see more play and give control decks a run for their money.
The thing about Psychic Scream is that it's a silver bullet for any mob type. I mean they nerf big game hunter for a reason then go ahead and create psychic scream. I'm not really sure they understand their own game at this point. As long as PS is in the meta all expensive big minions are a liability.
I’ve been playing a deck like this because of the guild recruiter/Faceless combo. I use Injured Bladesmasters as another target for Recruiter and a copy of Ancestral Healing. I also use the Evolve combo, because I can’t reaist playing it in Shaman.
I wanna try it but i dont have Far Sight. Has anybody tried Carnivorous Cube? Earth Elemental seems like an excellent cube target
how do you trigger the cube?
You could trade and then use your own Jade Lightning if necessary to kill it off? Or take it to Wild and use Reincarnate.
Otherwise you just use it to trade until it dies. A big play with the Cube might actually be to first play Earth Elemental, cast Ancestral Spirit on the taunt. Cube the Taunt if it's near death, get it back at full health and two more later when Cube dies. You could also use the Lesser Sapphire Spellstone to copy the Cube and get many more big taunts when the Cube copy/copies die. Might not be likely to work but could be a huge play.
Cube is too slow if you don't have anything to kill the cube
Spellbreaker is a common card because of cubelock. It is therefore quite optimistic to expect it to trade.
Don't do it, deck is a piece of shit
really cool deck dude, 10-3 with it atm from 10-8
NEW DECK PogChamp Clap !
I have played a similar deck for the last days and it is very fun indeed. However, my decklist is a bit different:
1. most importantly, I include Master Oakheart! I think it fits the deck really well and compliments the whole recruit idea. Therefore I also have included Al'akir, Tar Creeper and the 5 mana 2/7 freeze taunt (instead of drakkari defender). This results in a 3/5, 2/7, 3/5 charge-windfury-divineshield taunt wall worth 16 mana plus the free 5/5. Just hope you dont draw guild recruiter for the 2attack slot.
2. I include evolve and unstable evolution as we have multiple good evolve targets (oakheart, alakir, guild recruiter, bonemare, corridor creeper, thing from below). the DK might be good as well but I dont have him
3. cheesy OTK: On lower ranks, I included the 1 mana 1/2 that gets 2 attack when something is healed. I know this sounds crazy but hear me out: you pull it with oakheart, it is protected behind a big taunt wall. next turn you play healing rain, which actually buffs this little guy 12 times and you hit your opponent for 25 dmg. it works surprisingly often, is super fun and you dont have to change a whole lot of the deck (just 1 card).
4. I dont include drakkari defender as it is just too bad if drawn
5. I dont include earth elemental and therefore no spellstone
6. I dont include the full jade package, only claws, but it might be a good inclusion, I admit that
7. I dont include ancestral spirit as there are too many silences around
8. Instead I use bonemare (because OP), volcano (nice boardwipe), 2nd healing rain (sustain and used to heal my big guys if damaged)
If some of you guys are interested let me know and I can get myself to write a detailed guide, just let me know.
Wouldn't mind seeing your deck list
A decklist would be incredible at the end of your post or a link to it.
Hey guys, sorry, I was at work, therefore no decklist :P
Also, I wanted to point out the crucial differences and my thought process instead of just slamming a decklist :P
But here it is:
Let me know what you think.
How often does Lightwarden and Healing Rain or totem actually work out well?
surprisingly often, about one fith of the games (maybe 5-6 in 25-30 games).
Thanks for the deck, will definitely give this a try!
