Overview
- The Even setup allows for turn 1 Hero Power EVERY GAME.
- This translates into strong turn 2 plays like Goblin Auto-Barber, Sharkfin Fan and Bloodsail Raider.
- Or in a cheap and ready ping, for early board dominance.
- During the rest of the game, a cheap hero power means you can ping more often and yet be ready for weapon buffs and combos. That is, a whole new take at Oil Rogue.
- However, deciding when to ping and when to hold weapon for incoming buff is still very relevant, and part of the challenge of the deck.
Meta Tips
- 2 damage is good against Even Shaman's totems.
- Sap is HUGE against Big Priest and Even Shaman's Big guys.
- Ship's Cannon and Sharkfin Fan are good against Odd Paladin, You want to use all your pings (including dagger) against Recruits, while you try and rush their face with your minions, before their board becomes overwhelming.
- This deck suffers against Reno and Control decks, but you still have your fair chances to rush them down before their Reno (sometimes even after, if you can refill your hand).
- Do not overcommit your board against incoming AoE, including Druid's Spreading Plague.
- Cursed Castaway can deal with nasty taunts (Sludge Belcher, Tar Creeper) and has synergy exactly with your best finishers (Oil and Evis), and is surprisngly useful to close the game.
Options
In case the meta shifts towards a Weapon-heavy meta (Odd and Kingsbane Rogue, Odd Paladin, but also Aluneth Mage and Pirate Rogue).
- -1x Cursed Castaway, +1x Acidic Swamp Ooze
Enjoy, and please give it a +1 if you liked it!
Updates from RASTAKHAN'S RUMBLE
- Sharkfin Fan has obvious synergy in Even Rogue, and it turns out to be a key card in this deck. It offers general early board presence and additional tools against flood decks.
- Bloodsail Howler is consistent enough, if you apply some wise resource management. However, it impairs the strength of Hooktusk. Removed.
- walk the plan is useful against big early guys in Wild.
- Ticket Scalper is better than expected, since it adds a nasty threat, in the worst case. It is less consistent than Minstrel about card draw, but it is also not dependant on combo. You can consider running 1x Scalper and 1x Minstrel.
- Captain Hooktusk can be good as a last stand option, and a pseudo-card draw. The deck contains a fair number of solid Pirates that become particularly nasty with rush. If she turns out to be too slow for this deck, i'll switch back to Elven Minstrel.
- With Preparation in the deck, Cannon Barrage should be decent, at least as a one-of. Problem is that it stays inconsistent (some games it could win you the match, some others it is a dead card, or it hits the wrong targets), and i cannot find a card to replace for it. Maybe Eviscerate, but not sure.
Well, if you include Captain Hooktusk, Southsea Squidface is the best card she can summon. On its own, it is your most solid Pirate, together with the Naga, so i wouldn't drop them.
Either way, your version is slower than mine, and if it works, it's good news: it means the archetype is quite flexible.
I guess i can't delay testing Hooktusk and Barrage for much longer. :p
is this a new card, too? I think it looks pretty good for a pirate deck that aims on having board control. I'd imagine it would be great in this deck.
Hello, fun deck!!, thanks.
I swap Southsea Squidface for Jeeves because I felt lack of hand :c
Cheers!
I feel ya. However, i'd keep Squidface, and swap Walk the Plank instead: this is basically a fast Aggro/Tempo deck, no need for big removal beyond your own damage...
oh, I just never thought xD, with 2 sap should be enough to eliminate taunts minions.
I swap Bloodsail Howler for Elven Minstrel to add hand because Ticket Scalper never appears and die without draw :c
(sorry for my english xD)
I started in 20 and go in
1413 easy between turn 5-8 :)I will test ### Custom Rogue

Exactly.
As a Tempo deck, Jeeves is dangerous against faster Aggro, but i definitely see the Minstrel as a one-of.
I am currently experimenting with a similar list, with Hooktusk as a pseudo-draw, but as you noticed, (8) is typically too late. If Captain is too slow, i'll go back to good old Minstrel.
PS: Howler has saved me a good number of games so far. He's easily a 3/3 rush for (2), which is huge.
What do you think about Capitan Hooktusk ? She was good with Ticket Scalper and all pirates 4 mana or more. Capitan helped scroll deck.
Hooktusk can definitely have a role here.
My concern is that she comes at turn (8), which is a bit too late for this deck, and she could be a dead card for too long in your hand.
You typically want to have the game over already, by then, because you risk getting overvalued.
Maybe you right, a made 3 changes, add Hooktusk, Minstrel and Bloodsail Howler
My stat 12/5 with 5 rank
Well, that sounds quite neat! I think i'll try Hooktusk soon.
Amazing deck! Thanks for sharing! If rogue had a silence spell this would be perfect, I have troubles dealing with decks full of taunts, only bad matchup.
In that case, you may want to fit at least 1x Spellbreaker, maybe instead of Pillager.
