Hello guys, nice to see you here. If you've come for a visit here it means you are wondering if the Dragon Soul is good for something or not. I have a great news for you, YES it is.
I was not looking for other priest dragon soul deck here on HPWN, but I am sure there are better decks here. This is my first deck using Dragon Soul and I was surprised how good and FUN it was. On the other hand, it is very hard to play correctly, I made so many misplays before I got used to this deck cant even count.
This deck is all about the spells, Dragon Soul (the weapon), Lyra the Sunshard (spell generator), 2x Arcane Giant, Yogg-Saron, Hope's End (for YOLO). This is nothing like a refined deck, but the fun factor is amazing here. The YOLOs you will get are superb.
Gameplan:There is no gameplan with this deck. Actually, there is. The gameplan is to play your cards until the Dragon soul or Lyra is in your hand patiently waiting for big swing turn using stolen cards from your opponent (you are able to steal up to 10 opponents cards). Most of your cards are spells so you will discount Arcane Giant pretty fast so no need to be greedy with 1mana spells. When everything has gone wrong you can praise Yogg also for some good old memes (don't forget to praise Yogg correctly tho), many times he will win or lose you the game (Cataclysm as card #1 :D)
There is DK Anduin in the deck too, it is there for extra 5 health, for 5+ attack minion removal and in combination with your cheap spells he can ping extra 2 damage per turn also. (i removed Shadowreaper Anduin and added Archbishop Benedictus, because this deck can easily go to fatigue and Benedictus supports this plan, but this change is more matter of taste, if you don't feel like playing Archbishop Benedictus or you don't have him it's no problem to keep DK Anduin.)
The most fun part of this deck is stealing your opponent's card and using them against them while making dragons out of Dragon Soul or generating cards from Lyra. Stealing makes every game unique, fun and challenging. Prepare to enjoy Ultimate Infestations (this is not a good steal btw, as you will usually have a handful of cards), Voidlords, Siphon Souls, Twisting nethers, opponents DKs etc.
TIPS for other cards:
There are some interesting cards that can be tested within dragon soul deck as Doomsayer (for better surviving early game), gadgetsan auctioneer (better card draw),Free From Amber (so you can get something good from spell stone, but most of the time you will resummon some opponent creatures you stole before), Mass Dispel is also an option as cubelock counter and card draw.
I will write a guide if this deck will get +10 upvotes
Mulligan:
Always keep Dragon Soul, it is the reason why to play this deck with the coin it is gonna be awesome. Mulligan for any 1 mana spells, Radiant Elemental.
I usually keep Northshire Cleric as a soft taunt for first turns, she can sometimes slow opponent at the start of the game and from time to time she draws a card.
Curious Glimmerroot is a good pick as well 3/3 body with sometimes draw a card. Thoughtsteal is also an option.
Against aggro: Consider keeping Greater Healing Potion or Dragonfire Potion. Once you survive first 5-7 turns there is pretty big chance of winning.
To keep Lyra is questionable, if you have a coin it is OK.
Don`t keep: Psychic Scream, Arcane Golem, Lesser Diamond Spellstone, Shadow word: Death, Archbishop Benedictus, Yogg-Saron, Hope's End
EDIT 1: I made 2 changes to this deck.
- Spirit Lash + Dragonfire Potion - better board clear
- Shadowreaper Anduin [/card] + [card]Archbishop Benedictus - for longer games
Here are some examples how fun this deck is :)
Game 1: Greedy Cubelock - only proved Rin, the first disciple is too slow.
2. Game 2: Miracle rogue with Prince Keleseth - if the opponent played price keleseth and you play Archbishop Benedictus after price the cards you shuffle into your deck won't have +1/+1 on them!
Game 3: Evolve Shaman
Game 4: Zoolock - 3 dragons from dragon soul by turn 5, thank you.
Game 5: Mage - i healed a LOT :D
Game 6: Recruit weapon + Dead man's hand w/ Ysera, Lich King etc. Warrior
This was maybe of the most epic game with this deck. After his dead man's hand, I played Archbishop Benedictus, shuffled his deck into mine and enjoyed every turn until the end. This was like 30 minutes battle. I would like to shake his hand and say thank you for such a great game no matter who won.
More screenshots:
Game 1: Some wierd Inner Fire Combo Priest, almost got me :D
Game 2: Spitful Priest - 3x Free From Amber
Game 3: Another Priest
Game 4: Dude Paladin
Game 5: Spitful Priest
Nice fun deck!
Thanks for sharing. The deck is in right hands. ;)
Praise Yogg.
I used to play Thief Preist a lot, and I LOVE Archbishop Benedictus. I tried to make this deck, but I had to do some changes cause I'm missing cards.
I don't have Lyra the Sunshard or Yogg-Saron, Hope's End, and those are really nice cards. (Plus some epic cards)
I replaced them by 2 Holy Novas, because I don't have Dragonfire Potion, and added 2 Shifting Shades and a Devour Mind just cause I love to steal the opponent's deck.
Thank you for the guide and decklist!
Hi Lopes710, glad you enjoyed the deck! Cheers
Hi Charles, Gilded Gargoyle is great addition to Dragon Soul deck for sure, but I find it too slow. Would be awesome to get coin on battlecry, but as deathrattle sometimes you just don't have it when you need it. I like the stealing part because you never know what you get and I find it somehow challenging to adapt to it. Would be nice if you could post your deck on hrthpwn so I can check it out.
I like this deck, but i have always problems with tempo decks. Maybe any adivce?
Hi Luui, glad you like the deck. It can be frustrating to play against tempo decks if you expect tempo deck (hunter, rogue, paladin, shaman) the plan should be to keep their board empty, heal as much as you can, the longer the game takes the more chances you have in the later game. What is the biggest struggle you have? Also, consider mulligan for Dragonfire potion.
feels like if i dont get dragon soul until the 4th round i just lose the game, tho if i get it early its ez win..
Hey far0ka, glad you tried out this deck! That is true if you have dragon soul early it is easier to win, never said this is meta breaking deck, but trust me it can win all different matchups. Ofc it depends on cards you draw... Let me give you little bits of advice, hope it helps. Don't hold on 1mana spells if you don't have dragon soul. They are discounting Arcane Giants. I play Arcane giants asap if A.G. die, you can summon him back with spellstone. Even 3 minions resurrected with it are ok. Try to guess matchup and adapt your strategy to it from the beginning, no need to play on a curve. Important is to survive until turn 10 and wait for Yogg to decide if you "deserve or not" the win :D
edit: It took me a lot of games before I somehow learned how to play this deck, it is not the easiest one.
Thanks, my problem was that i kept all the 1 mana spells until i got the dragon soul which was too late and then i just lost because i had no answer for the board.
ill try playing them early up for a.g if i dont have a dragon soul, its not a easy deck but its really fun.
That is a seriously fun deck, great job. People dont have a clue how to play against. Archbishop benedictus can really shine in some matchup like big spell mage or mill rogue. I ended up beating the shit out of mill rogue with his own kingsbane after using benedictus/shadowstep/benedictus again! Was it legit, dont Know, dont care :). I'm thinking of replacing norshire cleric by priest of the feast or more big removals or steal cards as i usually play a fatigue/exausting game plan when i dont draw dragon soûl in the first few turn
If you make a guide (please make one) can you tell how to Mulligan? I usually keep radiant, thoughsteal lyra and the weapon
Hello Artemidore, benedictus/shadowstep/benedictus is super legit play :) that had to be a hilarious game. One Northshire Cleric is replaceable for sure. Just add what you feel you need to survive for the big swing turn. Priest of the Feast is a great body with healing so I think it is a good choice, also second Dragonfire Potion is ok or sometimes I feel I could use Silence so you might consider this as well. I am not sure about another steal card, I usually have o lot of cards in hand.
As for mulligan I always keep Northshire Cleric one of the best one drops in the game, it stops the opponent from playing 1-2 attack minion on turn 1 or 2, unless opponent does care if you draw a card or they just use one of their removals resources. That is why I play 2 of them.
Dragon Soul I keep 100%, that is a card I want to play no matter what :D and then I just fishing for cheap spells.
Radiant, thoughsteal I keep too If no dragon soul is in my opening hand. I don't keep Lyra, but Curious glimmerroot.
If I expect aggro deck I keep Healing potion, Dragonfire potion or shadow visions to find it.
Let me know what changes worked for you I am curious.
I've been looking for a way to combine Dragon Soul and Spellstone and this deck is seriously fun.
Actually doing surprisingly well so far. 4 and 1 at rank 10 after reset.
Happy to hear you are having fun. This deck was intended as a fun deck and if you can do 4:1 at rank 10, you have my respect :) I made a slight change to the deck... if you want to try, it is working even better for me now.
hopefully fun-o-meter is doing ok :) happy to hear you enjoyed the games :)
