(This is a rough draft for a guide)
Keep barnes; keep elven minstrel with coin, backstab, or prep; keep doomsayer mostly against aggro; and im not sure but maybe card draw like fan against control. After playing minstrel, you want to empty your hand of the useless doomsayers unless against aggro. Then play kobold illusionist and cube if possible. Or if the illusionist sticks play umbra plus cube. There are some crazy combos if you have both illusionist and maly in hand with one on board, especially with umbra. Valeera, vanish, and sap are used for stall. If against aggro, having an illusionist in hand and one on board with umbra gives you unlimited 1/1s which is the only way i won against aggro once. Ideally, you cube a maly while umbra is on board.

This deck turned out to be too greedy with the Cubes, so I changed the list slightly into a version that works more often against more decks; I posted the new list separately. Do check it out and make suggestions.
fun concept, works 1% of the time unfortunately :(
Yes, I have not pulled the ideal combo off myself yet, but cubing the illusionist usually gives you some options for a win condition like one or more 1/1 malys enough for a kill. Did you try this yourself?
Thank you for the feedback!
I understand it does rely a bit on board, but I believe my deck provides multiple ways of getting the malys there from illusionists. I have gotten a board full of illusionists multiples times with the deck (using the umbra interaction while another is in hand). Depending on the match-up, DK Valeera can also provide more illusionists. It is fun to play around with this versatility, and most opponents do not expect it.
I will try your version also, however. Let us make this idea into a competitive deck!
