This allows you, for example, to trade a 5/5 into your opponents 4/5, use hero power and it is basically a full heal while getting a minion that cost one more mana. Also, if you have a minion like jade spirit or a defender of argus, getting those minions to become a 5 cost minion after being played is really good value.
