April 2016 Card Nerf
It was announced on April 20th, 2016 that Molten Giant would receive a nerf.
- Mana cost increased to 25, up from 20.
Quote from BlizzardMolten Giant is an interesting card, but it’s too easy for players to reduce its mana cost to 0. We’re increasing Molten Giant’s mana cost to 25 to increase the risks players must take to get a free Giant. The changes to Force of Nature and Arcane Golem will make dropping to low health somewhat less risky as well, which helped spur this change.
Raggbur complained about aggro:
"Now any brainless noob can go ahead and just hit face all the time, without second thought, without getting punished for it."
our discussion is all about aggro and that aggro is now "tooooo strong" and molten giants can't be nerved ... and stuff....
Now it will be almost unplayable after Lord Jaraxxus.
23 mana would be just right in my opinion
On standard, healbot won't be able to played. This card is nerfed because all the otk deck's got nerfed( druid combo, oil rogue, arcane golem), and bgh got nerf too, so being on low hp is safer and you will see less bgh. The sad thing is, that it's impossible to play that after jaraxxus.
he mentioned reno too, why ignoring the poor reno
Time to replace them with Frost Giant I guess..
As a handlock player I find this scary. There is really only 3 good decks for warlock 1.zoo 2.handlock 3.malylock. This is going to be really hard at 5 health anything can happen people can burst you down from 5 health with a lot of different spells. Honestly almost any class can burst you down from 5 health. They should of at least made it cost 23 mana. 25 mana seems way too much. I feel like they forgot about wild. How am I supposed to play handlock in wild with malganis and other wild cards.
I am sorry that i feel happy about how you feel, I hate warlock the most because of this card, how they just spam hero power and by the time they are at 10 they get free 2 8-8 ~ 9-9 tanks (not 100% tank but with 2-4 mana tank, and they still hav mana for other things)
Holy Wrath seems viable again. Nice!
25 DAMAGE HOLY WRATH!!!!! one shot one kill !!
No more 10hp free giants. Thanks, 800 dust and less headaches.
He became literally unplayable in a warlock deck once you have become Lord Jaraxxus… unless you are really lucky with Emperor Thaurissan. :/
I like the new 25mana it make every thing a lot harder to play it without risk.
Cost = 14: Costs (1) less for every (2) damage your hero has taken.
This would have allowed you to play the giant at still a relatively safe health but making it almost impossible to play him for free therefor at the same time nerfing him. It also allows him to fit perfectly with 10 and 12. If he costs 25 you will have to play him at a higher mana as the risk is not worth it to play with less health and there are other better minions for higher mana without the risk. It seems like it will make mountain giant obsolete. The alternative I would say is making him cost 22 instead of 25, it also fits better with the 10, 12 theme.
Five mana is a lot, yes it does represent 5 hp, but it also represents 5 pure mana, five mana is probably the biggest nerf a card has gotten, our brains count exponentially so it seems like a small change compared to 20 but the difference between a mountain giant costing 3 or 8 is quite significant. Especially if its late in the game where 9 and 10 drops that do more are starting to come out, or your opponent has a combo, at least druid lost theirs which lightens the weight a bit.
There are many variables to look at however in light of all the changes that are coming. He is pobably gonna be more of a risk to play against aggro and any mages but he will be harder to remove with bgh and the risk from some classed(druid) will be less. Cho'Gal will also make it easier to set up for molten.
Immediately dust it after nerf go live !
Holy Wrath Buff!! PogChamp.. Somewhere Kripp is smiling!
My thoughts exactly
Why not increase the cost to 24 instead? It would have been more in line with the other Giants that all cost 10 or 12.
Handlocks got fucking ripped!
Was the decks that used this really that OP? No. So why is it nerfed? Now you have to be at five or less health to get it for free and that means that this is a really hard deck to play. Probably ruined now.
