Could be a fun card to get off Deathstalker Rexxar. Looking forward to trying this out.
This is an actual skill-based card, rather than a clown fiesta card like most others. Getting information on your opponent's hand is really good; Keeping this in your hand for most of the game, from turn 1, actually has value.
It's another n00b trap, like Zerus or Achbishop Benedictus, but I admit that it's very cool.
To those who still entertain the idea of it being good, consider this:
1) It won't "sit in your hand, spying", most of the time, it won't be in your starting hand (it's a legendary). And even if it was, there are always only a few meta decks, so you can often guess your opponent deck anyway, during the first two or three turns. You face a warlock? It's a cubelock or control lock. Now the card will show you Kobold Librarian and then Hellfire. Yay!
2) The turn you topdeck it, it's just a 1/1, so it's the most terrible topdeck ever for a slow deck, and it has no sense in a fast deck (fast deck attacks aggressively no matter what, it does not have any strategic flexibility). If you have the luxury to wait, it will be a useless card for your archetype most of the time. Imagine a control warlock or priest that need board clears, heals or impactful cards, with this changing from one small minion to another. If your opponent actually plays a card like a Death Knight that would be useful to steal, he will play it immediately on curve, minimizing your chance.
3) As before, decks are super synergistic, so they will prefer a dependable card that actually plays to their win condition to a Zerus-like card like Chameleos.
But it will be fun watching people desperately trying to make this card work!
You really open my eyes.
Judging by your achievements, did you just make this account to make this post? Just to attack the people trying to make this card work? Damn man, how dare anyone try to work with a card. Smh, they shouldn't try to make a bad card good. Only use good cards people, that's the way to play!!! Blizzard makes some cards OBVIOUSLY for no one to play them or make them work and others are the only cards to use, DUH.
Well, the results are in and this card is way better than I expected! From the past 10 games (at rank 1 and 2):
- I beat a Druid by playing around his UI and savage roar (I was at 6 life for the last 4 turns of the game but I was able to set up lethal by healing my Deathwing instead of my face because I knew my wyrmgaurd was enough to save me).
- I beat a Warlock by stealing the 2nd seal XD
- I beat a Hunter by stealing his blackwald pixie and healing out of range
Basically this card is gangster. The information it gives you is even more valuable than I thought it would be, and it always gets you something good (cause you just wait until it does). Priest staple for sure until it rotates.
Honestly, this is being short sighted. The ability to know what is in your opponents hand, albeit one card at a time, can give you advantage. If your opponent has large cost cards in hand, you know that they may be mana stuck. If they are playing Odd Paladin or another aggro deck, you could have the opportunity to use one of their own items against them, like an immediate taunt.
This card is versatile. Meta-defining? That remains to be seen, but it certainly has its appeal and uses.
Don't judge people by their virtual "achievements", judge their statements by what they actually say. You would find out that I was right - Chameleos is garbage that is not played in any serious deck, and you were wrong. Seems like my first achievement - defeating you in an argument. How cool is that?
For me it's still the most fun/original card revealed so far. Cute art and cool effect. I'm missing more cards like this, like a lot. Stop making cards for tryhards and for arena or with boring effects and start making more fun/timmy/value cards. Still waiting for the next Confessors and Nexus kind of cards.
I wonder what the beast fuction is for though.
As it adjusts to one of your opponents cards, don't you lose the beast tag then?
If that's the case, it might as well not be a beast at all...
Could be cool to get it off Jeweled Macaw, or any simmilar effects.
Interesting concept but i dont think this card is good at all:
1- A lot of the time it will copy cards that can't be played because it cost more then the mana curve
2- Cards under the mana curve are, in average, underwhelming
3- Chameleos gets much worse while playing second because cards on curve will mostly be played by your oponnent on that turn so it may only happen when he has duplicates or it will require a coin usage
4- Most cards you can get have no sinergy with your deck, so imo, the drawback of holding a possible dead card does not outweight the info it gets
This card is amazing because it lets you know what is in your opponents deck, and that is very valuable
is overated.
All 4 of your points involve actually playing the card, at which point, it's not that great, but you're not taking into account the value of being able to gather information about your opponent's options covertly. Mind vision is ok since it gives you a small amount of information, but although your opponent doesn't initially know what card you saw, they do know that you saw a card.
This little bugger just sits there and snipes your opponent turn after turn until you know practically their entire hand, yet they have know clue that you've sniped them. Eventually they'll catch on when it becomes obvious you're playing around their aoe or burst, etc, but by then the damage should be done.
I don't think the card is broken or anything, but it's an interesting and unique way to get an edge over your opponent that we haven't really seen before in HS... I think it's cool. Let's face it though, it will either become a staple or never see play at all. The only synergy I can think of is The Curator and that's rotating out.
Recon was my first thought, as well. Then I thought about the fact that with a pen and paper you could, to a degree, map your opponents hand. From what I've read, being able to do it with pen and paper is the prerequisite for what an overlay can display, within the terms of service. I'm curious to see how it plays out.
You guys are overestimating the value of limited info. I'll state it again: Peeking 1 card a turn isn't worth a dead card. Even less useful to a class that is reactive by default.
Whats in their hand came from their deck, so if you know some of the hand, especially after 30 days in the meta, you probably know their whole deck list...
Vs agrro maybe you take something quick early to help stabilize, vs mid and control you can wait for something good and get info on what IS in their hand you might need to play around
You have to be smart to take advantage of whats in opponents hand.... i love it, maybe best in set, but requires thinking and not a slam down and win corridor creeper type card
