Cool card, but it seems like "even" mage might be more viable.

That's precisely why they made this card as an incentive. Not sure if it's enough, but it's interesting that they took these kinds of considerations into account when creating the new set

I can see a sick Wild Tempo Mage coming up with Mana Wyrm, this Kitty, Azure Drake, Flamewaker, Forgotten Torch and Archmage Antonidas. Maybe throw in a Burgly Bully or two. You now have the Hunter hero power that also targets minions, but preferably goes face.

Wild Tempo mage without Mad Scientist, Fireball and Aluneth? Will not happen.

And a 2 mana deal 2 damage is probably not worth crippling your deck. Maybe if we see more cards, right now i don't see it.

What if they add a 1 mana deal 1 damage with Echo? :p

As is, this card is likely hard to play effectively due to the fact that so many burn spells are even-costed. Now, if this were a 4-mana 4/4 or a 2-mana 2/2, it would be ridiculously good because it could be paired with Aluneth, Frostbolt, Fireball, Pyroblast, Meteor, and Blizzard.

As a player who started to play this summer finally, I can play Azure Drake.

Okay, you can't play Frostbolt or Fireball, even if you don't get to utilize your spell damage, a 3 mana 3/3 draw a card is a really high value card, the closest thing is a Acolyte of Pain, which is a 1/3 that may occasionally draw 2 cards.

Shaman needed this, not Mage. 

Couldn't agree more. Hopefully Shaman will get some Control tools too. (I mean Hagatha is almost surely a control card, but Shaman is gonna need some early game help to make it to turn 8).
