Card text says 'from the deck', since you have no secrets left in the deck, nothing gets pulled from the deck, so he's just a vanilla 2/2.
This card's going to be so much fun to play- something Secret Mage is definitely going to appreciate. The decklists are just rolling in my head now- Mad Scientist, you can't come round soon enough!!!
I love the voice actor who is used in this card "I'll show them, I'll show them alllll"
It will only pull a non-
duplicatecopy. So if you only run two Ice-block, and one is in play, his deathrattle will have no effect.Question, if this deathrattle activates while i run out any secret cards then what a card that i will get into the battlefield or no card into the battlefield ?
Sorry for my English :(
Correct. If you've run out of Secrets, it can't find one to place for you... unless it has a hidden clause I'm unaware of like Sense Demons to summon a Worthless Imp?
When the secret comes to the battlefield, will it count as a spell cast? Would it buff Mana Wyrm?
I don't believe it should. You're not casting the spell - merely having it placed onto the battlefield for you. Similarly, a Battlecry minion that isn't cast from the hand does not get that Battlecry effect (for example, from Reincarnate)
Am I understanding this right that you get to choose what secret is placed since it doesn't say a random secret from your deck?
You don't get to choose because the deathrattle could take place on someone else's turn. Blizzard has a policy of not saying that it's random if it's "obvious" that it's random. Since a creature with death rattle could die when it isn't your turn, then the effect must be random. A good example is Sense Demons, since the effect is on only on your turn, it has to be stated that it's random.
Don't see how that an "obvious" situation but that may be the case. The webspinner says random on it even though it can die on either turn therefore it wouldn't be necessary to say random by that standard. However I do see why that would say random too since it could be any beast card...
I'm not defending Blizzard's logic on this one. I for one would make more things explicit. You can read about it yourself from the horse's mouth.

Though you can assume that anything that has an effect that might require a decision will be made random if that effect can ever be triggered on an opponent's turn. Non-interactive turns is a cornerstone of the Hearthstone game that makes it play faster than a game like Magic Online.
"- Add the word “random” when the game chooses randomly from the battlefield or YOUR hand. (visible zones)- Do not use the word “random” when the game chooses randomly from the opposing hand or a deck. (basically any hidden zone)"Based on the above, one would assume you'd get to choose since it's from your hand - a 'visible zone'Herpaderp durrrr... sorry. .. deck.. I didn't see the deck. (that's what she said)
Going right to my mage deck. 2 mana for a 2/2 plus a 3 mana secret is so valuable.
If you play this card turn 2 that gets a duplicate, into turn 3 coin double mad scientist. Oh god the dream.
But alas, this card plus 2 kirin tor mage may have some really good synergy with mana wyrm, mana addict, violet teacher, quest adventurer, Ethereal arcanist etc. I'm excited to run this card on my mage.
Secrets mage's back, alright tun tun tun.
Cool card, any idea how this works with Redemption?
i dont think redemption triggers battle cries so it wouldent put another secret down
More specifically, I wonder if this is your only minion, and it fetches Redemption, will Redemption return Mad Scientist to the field.
i dont think so as scientist would die BEFORE the secret would play
Mad scientist dies, his effect grabs redemption and puts it on the field. The secret is not around to be triggered by the mad scientist's death which is what triggers the death rattle.
I agree that that makes sense intuitively, but there are some unexpected interactions similar to this one.
For example: Mind Control Tech steals a Knife Juggler and a knife gets thrown.
