April 2016 Card Nerf
It was announced on April 20th, 2016 that Big Game Hunter would receive a nerf.
- Mana cost increased to 5, up from 3.
Quote from BlizzardBig Game Hunter represents an inexpensive source of removal that is packaged with a minion. It’s efficient enough that some Heroes with powerful Class-based removal cards choose to run the neutral Big Game Hunter. We’re increasing the cost of the card from 3 mana to 5 mana.
Well, at least you can still use this after Brawl
At first glance, the nerf was rather disappointing, due to the fact that BGH still eliminates a 7-attack minion on board. This still makes a number of big minions in his sight. But the 5-mana nerf can mean a serious tempo disruption, simply because you can't do much after dropping this.
I guess Blizzard took this into consideration, and to keep the essence of BGH.
I always felt that Big Game Hunter and Hemet Nessingwary should have had swapped effects.
still a very good card, but it might not see play in zoo decks anymore
Dude this nerf changes NOTHING. You will be dropping 8 9 10 mana big drops and still lose it for 5 mana super tempo swing. Fuck u blizzard.
Nerf shoude be 4 mana instead of 5...or for 5 mana it should be a 4/3.... sad nerf
Still playable, but now more like Antique Healbot as in: terrible stats for its cost, but effect to valuable.
Guys, you have to realize, with all those giant old gods and legendaries coming, classes that aren't loaded with removal might have a hard time creating competing decks.
We NEED Big Game Hunter to keep big minions in check
Sure, some minions like Earth Elemental or Ironbark Protector may never see play because of it, but I'd rather have that over facing a 12/12 Dragonlord who i will have to dump my hand on to remove, upon which he will summon the dragon army to grill my a**.
Now BGH finally has a downside, as small as it may be...and Boom is gone anyways, so we might not even see him as much as before
I'm very very disappointed in this nerf. I truly think that the problem caused by this card will still not be fixed.
this card was supposed to be 6-7 mana epic such that IF you choose to play it against an enemy minion, your entire turn will be covered. moreover you shouldn't be able to play 2 at the same turn (not that it will matter much).
think of it this way, when you played Ragnaros the Firelord at turn 8 your opponent (assuming they went second) killed this and played a shredder (also floated one mana).
now your entire turn got decimated by 7 mana counter-play and your opponent just completely took the board (sticky minions issue is addressed yes but just imagine)
now assuming the game will evolve to 10 mana power-houses, this situation is still completely valid. the essential problem of the card doesn't change at all.
edit: also now that handlock is suffering from Molten Giant's I fail to see the utmost necessity of this card to be still op. guys I am playing the game since open beta, I probably played Big Game Hunter on curve less than 20 times. the swing it created was the only issue which still exists post-nerf.
yes you will :)
I hear a C'Thun crying in the deeps.
This card wasn't designed to be played on curve. changing it's cost a little bit does absolutely nothing. will still see play and be way too powerful
But now we can't play BGH and 6 or 7 cost minions on the same turn for the massive tempo swing.
A good nerf should make him
"4 manacost"
Same stats as before(4/2)
Deal 4 damage to a minion with 7 attack or more.
FIXED IT!
And that's how it should be with tech cards.
lets hope that the servants of our lord can hit to the face sufficiently to kill the opponent from the battlecry... see... this is the issue in the game and why it never slows down. because fast decks are the only "rational" way to play the game. I'm not saying BGH is the only reason, but it adds to the problem.
I was hoping for something like, do 6 damage to a creature with 7 or more attack but I suppose this is acceptable. It can still deal with the turn 4 mountain giants, which was a bit of a concern if it got nerfed into non-existence.
Still playable :(
