April 2016 Card Nerf
It was announced on April 20th, 2016 that Big Game Hunter would receive a nerf.
- Mana cost increased to 5, up from 3.
Quote from BlizzardBig Game Hunter represents an inexpensive source of removal that is packaged with a minion. It’s efficient enough that some Heroes with powerful Class-based removal cards choose to run the neutral Big Game Hunter. We’re increasing the cost of the card from 3 mana to 5 mana.
Hey, Conjurer's Calling mages.
F*ck you.
Interesting that this card is seeing play again. With all the giants and turn 6 Tyrantuses running around hes doing alright for himself.
I still think it should deal 7 damage instead of out right killing them. It could be 3-4 mana 4/2 - Battlecry: deal 7 damage to a minion with 7 or more Attack. You'd have to pull one or more damage in most cases, reducing the tempo loss for playing big minions, while maintaining his flexibility and usefulness.
I think due to the new quests being added to the game with the new Un'Goro expansion, this card could see some more play, as it is a card that single handedly gets rid of the big minions you get as rewards. Now this depends of how often we see Quest decks around and of how many other cards with 7 attack or more are added. Example of cards like this are Kalimos, Primal Lord, Swamp King Dred, the always seen Flamewreathed Faceless, and maybe the new Ravenous Pterrordax.
This, of course, if the meta slows down, but with the new early slow cards I'm feeling like this expansion can actually slow down the meta, specifically thinking about cards like Tar Creeper, Tol'vir Stoneshaper and even Gluttonous Ooze.
Still incredibly effective removal, even after its nerf; it offers a mildly threatening body, hard removal and it's in classic neutral. Just because it isn't an auto include, practically broken card doesn't mean it doesn't deserve to see play. The people calling this card bad, useless or dust worthy probably haven't even played it much post nerf; in no way is this card even mediocore, it's kind of great.
Well, it looks like this minion is getting good again. In ranked, I face mostly shamans with 7-7 and this guy just kill it straight away.
With every card from Gadgetan giving +/ +/ in random card in hand this guy should definitely see some play again, killing C'thun for 5 mana was not bad anyways
He's just bad now.
Let's compare this with Hemet Nesingwary and Shadow Word: Death
What I am saying is BGH nerf is not bad. It's balanced. But 3/3 or 4/3 BGH would be better. Or even 4-Mana 3/2 BGH. Yeah, that's it.
Still playable in classes with little removal (Druid), but not an auto-include. Best nerf ever by Blizzard!
still running him :)
So it turns out killing C'Thun for 5 mana is still pretty good.
I do have 2 copies of BGH now. Is there any sense to DE one copy?
You can disenchant them during the nerf period for full dust. If you need him back you still have 400 dust ready.
-.- I was 2min searching him on 3costs mana for dust it
It's still good
The nerfs went live! Why is it still showing 3 mana BGH in the above image? He costs 5 now!
edit: Looks like it's been updated to 5 mana in the above image. :) I will be dusting my BGH and if he's still meta, recraft one later on.
The issue isn't the cost it's the fact that you basically can't play a big minion because you lose next turn. I think keeping it at 3, but making him switch health with a target is a better choice, simply because that way there has to also be another form of removal to kill the creature, and you don't get an automatic 2 for 1.
400 dust or expensive removal? Hard choice.
now it is like high-risk-high-value instead of low-risk-extreme-value

it's a good nerf i'd say. now you won't get tempo'd out instantly for investing in a big minion.
