An alternative to Primordial Drake in a non dragon Priest. Also very nice synergy with the Priest Quest. Seems pretty good and will probably make it into control style decks.
Assuming free from ember will give us this guy we could play him twice since turn 8 and then summon N'zoth. Not bad, huh?
Was imagining some ideal scenarios one could encounter when playing Obsidian Statue. All of them (save being transformed) seem quite strong.
1. Opponent plays multiple small minions to mitigate the impact of Statue's Deathrattle. Each time one of those minions trades into Statue, Lifesteal triggers, and you regain lots of health.
2. Opponent plays one or two large minions to only trigger Statue's Lifesteal once or twice. Statue dies, and its Deathrattle destroys a large enemy minion.
3. Opponent destroys Statue using burn spells or hard removal, preventing Lifesteal. Statue either absorbs 8+ damage instead of your face, or baits out a hard removal otherwise aimed at another of your large drops. Possibly destroys a enemy minion in the process.
4. Opponent casts a transform effect (Polymorph, Hex). Statue absorbs a transform effect, but does little otherwise.
Taunt, Lifesteal, and "Deathrattle: Deadly Shot" on a single card is a powerful combination of Abilities. They complement one other. Lifesteal is strong against large boards of small minions, Deathrattle beats small boards of large minions, and Taunt protects face and demands an answer from the opponent. Late-game drops need to create board presence, and Obsidian Statue does so.
The one real hard counter to this card is transform effects. But there's no getting around it. Vulnerability to transform effects is a fact of life for late-game drops.
Obsidian Statue has combo potential. I've heard of potentially viable combos with cards such as Barnes and Eternal Servitude. Combo decks which run Barnes+Malygos or Barnes+Y'Shaarj, Rage Unbound as their only minions have seen play, and Priest has the tools to pull off something similar. Even Free From Amber will have the potential to pull this card. Reserving talk of viability until the meta settles, I am excited to see this card experimented with.
Or, 5. Your opponent has several small minions and one big minion. The big minion kills the statue and the statue hits a small minion.
There really is good value in this card. Firstly to note, it has Lifesteal attached to it which obtains value every time that happens to activate. Taunt will assure that value could potentially be multiple since it has 8 health. Second, it has an immediate effect with its Deathrattle being so powerful. Although it is on a random minion, you can pretty much consider it a 6 mana 4/8 with Deadly Shot attached. Albeit, you need to set up proper circumstances to get the most value out of this card.
Wait a minute... this is like the only priest minion that cost 8 or more... it will have like insane drop rates from Free From Amber
thanks for the note buddy :) really missed it
Another Warcraft 3 Undead unit! Fck Yeah! Pretty cool stuff they did to it :)
I miss Ironbeak Owl.
I fucking don't.
Glad I was able to enable this zingy upvote magnet for you.
This is a buff to Free From Amber.
Stonehill Defender is now quite good in priest...
*Preeeeetty good
Seems Good.
Since it costs 9, I figure it's intended to mostly see play through Free From Amber. In a vacuum, it's a solid card. Outside of a vacuum, it costs 9.
Best Artwork of the set so far (DK Rogue coming second)
Oh wow. The N'Zoth value.
Ah, so this is what Jon's making out of the Dragonglass.
