TAKE it
I'm gunna give you a like just for making a thesis on a digital card game.
What kind of connection does this ***** have with the lich king / Scourge ?
Absolutely none lmao, Benedictus was connected to the Twilight Council and sought to bring about the destruction of the dragon aspects during the Hour of Twilight. He was nothing more than an NPC during WoTLK ironically.
Now we need OMEGAResidentSleeper emote on twitch.
Yep. Yet, with this card, Priests will for sure outlive Warrior if it goes to "fatigue". Whatever that means when this expansion hits.
shitty card, wont see play in constructed.
This card is interesting, it may be pretty decent in meme decks but I have a hard time believing that Archbishop Benedictus is batshit broken, as most of the people in the comments suggest. Here is my take on it:
Constructed: while this card seems to be insane at the first glance, it's actually not. The reason being that this card messes up the deck consistency. In order to make competitive decks that define meta, people stack the decks up with highly efficient cards in terms of synergies and consistency. Every single card should be in place for the deck to run perfectly. People were extremely hyped about Prince Malchezaar (adds 5 legendaries, crazy!) but it fell short of the expectation not only due to the random nature of legendaries but also due to the consistency issues. That's because you want to draw the exact cards you want, especially in the late game and Malchezaar's mechanics didn't allow that to happen. In terms of Archbishop Benedictus, the consistency of the deck is pretty much halved when you play it.
Arena: might be decent but it comes back to the consistency and card value argument: you will not only double the number of late game cards but you will also double the number of early game minions that you may not wish to have. It doesn't have an immediate effect on the board, so it's a win more type of card, where it may not even be necessary to have it if you are winning. Also, playing this on-curve is too slow. It doesn't have an immediate effect on the board and has pretty mediocre stats. If you don't have enough draw, it won't matter too much. Games in the arena don't tend to go to fatigue and generally a more skillful player who can squeeze enough value out will win. The maximum you can expect from this card is your opponent emoting at you.
Some counter arguments:
"Well, you don't have to play it on the curve, you can just play when you are close to fatigue." - Well, in aggro match-ups this card is trash. Not only because of the card quality but also because of the fact that if you are doing good by turn 7, this card may lose you a game. When you are losing against aggro, it will make it that you lose with a higher chance. Against heavy control-oriented decks, I would think that Dead Man's Hand is better and control warrior would be generally favored because after playing this card, your consistency will not be lowered, due to synergy with other warrior cards you have. Actually, Archbishop Benedictus almost always halves your deck consistency, so, technically, it doesn't matter that much when you play this card.
"Cards are good and the more cards, the better." - Coming back to the Malchezaar argument, it's not always true. While some classes may be good in terms of high quality with little synergy needed (Mage, Priest) the other classes may enforce some difficulty on that. For instance, if you copy Jade Druid cards or any aggro deck it's completely worthless. Well, let's hope that the control meta will finally arrive. (Also, if you steal a hero card, would it change to Priest Hero card, or will Anduin be replaced with Deathstalker Rexxar for example?)
"Look at all the value you get from adding more cards." - Adding more cards ≠ value. Especially if you don't have too much draw working for you (which may be much harder to find after you play Archbishop Benedictus as it may become buried deeper in your deck). In terms of card value, we can compare this card to a recently revealed warlock card Gnomeferatu. It's a 2 mana 2/3 card (which are really good stats for a two drop, as it contests the board if played on curve) with an immediate effect of removing the top card from your opponent's deck. Hence, this card actually spoils your opponent's consistency instead of spoiling your consistency and has much more value because of its stats and its effect.
So, in my opinion, given all the cards we saw yet, it's trashy. Don't get me wrong: it's really interesting and I'm very excited for this mechanic. If I'll get this card from the pack, I'll definitely try and I'm sure, I would enjoy the hell out of it. I'm sure it's gonna be a lot of fun. But calling this card 'meta-defining' or 'insane' is a bit of a stretch. I, personally, will not craft it until meta settles in. I'm quite curious about the rest of the cards which are due to be released but I can't imagine any card that synergises with this card.
I have an interesting idea of a miracle-style priest running Archbishop Benedictus, that, of course, if Gadgetzan Auctioneer will not be sent to the Hall of Fame (which might happen and if it does, it would completely ruin Miracle Rogue, nerf Jade Druid and make this potentially interesting deck only playable in wild). I will try and make this deck as more cards are revealed and will share it here.
Sure we will get enough fun watching Trolden/Rage Orc and laughing but I'm pretty confident that players who will decide to craft it as soon as the expansion rolls out will be disappointed by more consistent meta-oriented decks beating priest deck with Archbishop Benedictus.
UPD: tried to make a miracle priest theorycraft with this card, you can go and check the deck here: http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/870907-archbishop-miracle-theorycraft . Will try my best to update it when the new cards are released.
Just when we think Blizzard is being kind to priests they print this garbage.
The Priest hero card better be INSANE.
How can you guys not see how ridicoulusly stupid this card is. Honestly this card alone defeats everey other controll deck. How is that good for the meta?
i'm literally never gonna play hs aigain if this shit gets printed
Would be nice to play this against each other multiple times.
How does this card work? Does it shuffle the original 30 cards of the opponent's deck or the 10+ cards in the opponent's deck when played?
It shuffles the 10+ cards in the opponent's deck when played
Wut...
If you are alive against aggro on turn 7 and can play a 7 mana 4/6 that does nothing to the board. You've most likely already won.
Honestly this would only be good if you have a mirror matchup or against a control deck since you want their good cards such as board clears, card draw and hard removal, and other than that u can go for the fatigue route when u finally outvalue and fatigue your opponent. But most of the time, if youre against like a murloc paladin or an aggro deck, there is nothing in their deck that actually synergizes with your deck (assuming control priest) and thus your deck is much much worse as you cant draw the stuff you want against aggro and midrange to stabalise. So i guess this card isnt as good as what ppl think
"i'm actually you" priest is real
As a priest lover I am happy.
This is going to be amazing against control/mid-range decks, especially paladin/mage.
Versing aggro you are usually dead by turn 7. If you aren't then you've just diluted your deck with aggro cards that make it harder to draw your board clears or taunts.
Ew, I don't wanna copy no filthy hunter decks!
