I like your version, it makes it a psuedo entomb. it would kinda put rogue on top.
+1
Not only does that work like Freezing Trap, it is also consistent-in-reverse with Shadowstep.
This costs 4 more mana than Sap. If it trades to a common 2 drop (or a 2 cost spell like Frostbolt), your opponent used 2 mana more than they would have with Sap, but unlike Sap your opponent needs to use a card to deal with it. Getting an extra card of value is worth pretty much exactly 2 mana (see Moonfire versus Shiv or Darkbomb versus Hammer of Wrath).
The high cost and combo do make this strictly a control versus control card. That's fine. That's exactly what it's meant to be as a higher-cost, higher-return version of Sap.
Sap is an ok 2 mana spell. His body 5/3 is a weak 4 drop minion. Put these together and you get 6 mana.
Healing Touch is a weak 3 mana spell. Antique Healbot has an ok 3 mana body. Put these together an you you should get 6 mana?
However Antique Healbot is only 5 mana- AND its a neutral card, which generally are worse than the classcards. On top of this Kidnapper needs too be triggered through combo, which is strictly worse than a Battlecry (inb4 Nerub'ar Weblord meta).
Example: SI7 Agent vs Ironfroge Rifleman: An ok minion with a powerfull Combo vs a bad minion with a mediocre battlecry.
If a 5 mana 3/3 can have the Battlecry of a 3 mana spell, I see no problem in a 5 mana 5/3 having the Combo effect of a 2 mana spell. But he remains a 6 drop and "Used in 1.68% of Rogue decks in the past 30 days".
Sorry if this sounds rude or anything, I just think this guy is really underpowered for his mana cost.
dang look at that tongue waggle!
Just came here to say the same thing, really good golden animation but creepy as hell.
Another expansion and you're still useless. I am awaiting the day as I haven't DE'd both of you yet.
Doesn't make much sense, because the golden version is probably the best in the game. You should've just said that someone crafted it once :P
the tongue wiggle is so kidnappie. Nasty perv tongue. A gold one would be great for trolling with.
A card with a similar effect, Sap, costs (2). Since the effect is a combo instead of a battlecry, the effect's cost should be halved to 1. A 5/3 minion is vanilla at (4). So in order to pass the vanilla test, this card should cost 5 mana. Because it is an epic, it should be slightly better than vanilla in order to justify its rarity, so one of the following changes should occur:
1. Buff the card by reducing its cost to (5) and +1 health or -1/+2. This would prevent the card from being having overpowered attack and making it at least playable.
2. Increase cost to (7). Change the ability to read "Combo: remove a minion from play and place it into your hand. It costs (1) more." This would prevent most legendary minions from being sapped and played on the same turn. It would also prevent the user from stealing (10) mana and higher minions while still giving them the ability to remove them from play.
3. Nerf the card to a 2/2 that costs (3). Essentially a slightly more expensive Sap that also gives a minion. Compare to Si:7 Agent that has similar cost and an ability slightly better than Backstab, which costs (0).
Honestly, if the combo requirement were removed this card would be great. 5/3 is worth 3.5 mana (albeit poor distribution) so you'd be getting a card-free Sap for 2.5 mana. Great tempo gain without losing card advantage. Might even be OP.
Fun fact, this card was nerfed in the early stages of HS
What kind of kidnapper returns someone to their home? FailFish
Unlike Sap it can return your own minion, still rubbish card...it could be better without combo request tho.
I think this version could be useful without being overpowered. Yes, the effect is very strong, but:
- High Mana cost makes it much more difficult to trigger the combo.
- High Mana cost makes it much more difficult to repeatedly return it to your hand and play again.
- You'd still have to pay to summon the minion you stole, unlike Mind Control for example. If you have to wait until Turn 8 to steal a minion, you'd be trying to get something just as expensive, if not more expensive, than this card.
- If it's late enough for you to play an 8 drop, your enemy probably has a way to easily kill something as fragile as a 5/3 before you get a chance to attack with it.
Personally i think it should be like 5 or less because that would be to good against ragg or doctor boom
Edit: Also keep the same price tag maybe even less like 5
Turn 10: Emergency Coolant, your suggestion, Finicky Cloakfield
Turn 11: Youthful Brewmaster, your suggestion
Or
Turn 10: Preparation, a spell that costs 3 or less, your suggestion, Youthful Brewmaster
Turn 11: Backstab, your suggestion, Youthful Brewmaster
I don't know why this card had to be a combo. A sap on a minion would have been a great tempo creature, but a combo on a card that cost this much mana, as well as dying to a common 2-drop? Forget it.
This might become more playable with some of the extra mill options coming out in GvG. Never thought I'd possibly see Kidnapper changing the meta. :o
See it once, mill decks are not quate viable
