Combo this card with Deathwing on turn 10 in some kind of unorthodox or new style of control warlock. Make him your only discard to clear the board and follow up with unlimited imps. You can tutor for deathwing with Curator to to make sure you have him come turn 10, and some garbage in your hand to make sure you have 6 cards to dump. You follow up a board clear with a tap and a 5 mana imp portal. Even better if you jaraxxus before the Deathwing all in.
In this combo you don't even have to keep it in your mulligan, you can draw it later on and instantly pop it with Deathwing later on so you don't ruin your early curve.
I muss say, I didn't thought about this combo, until I saw your comment. Gotta say - I would like to try this. My first thoughts of the warlock quest card were: how can there be a control disco lock, when the lock will lose his resources, and this card isn't that suitable for the aggressive disco zoo, because they will lose tempo by playing this on t1 and playing the spell for 5 mana (normally they want to build a big board earlier and finish the game faster and the imps from the nether portal will have an impact later in the game). But DW as the only discarding card - I love control decks, I will try to build one with this combo.
Bad idea. Having six other cards in your hand to discard on turn 10 is absurdly rare.
@omar, Come up with new material.
but with the lock hero power you can do that by t10; before that (t8 ot t9) you have to play the quest and have DW in hand - that's maybe harder to achieve
Please no...
I know the effect is cool and all, but we also got to consider the fact about the mana to play the reward as well.
Any opinion to try this out for the new Renolock (Kazlock or Kabal-lock)?
especially if you have to discard 6 cards, which would require you at this point to run at least soulfire, Darkshire Librarian, Doomguard and that Felhound...which, in a highlander deck, you might not even draw in time, while at the same time risking to discard those very cards and ruin the quest.
This is a card for midrange-discard (or just regular zoo) and that's good
And only valid in wild...
Can the resulting portal die from cards like Deathwing or Brawl?
What if the card is not going to stay on board and instead is like Unstable Portal or the other portals from Karazhan?
The only way to stop it.
But there is way to play against in wild.
Remember sylvanas?
It did well vs the cow king portal making you play with the cow king as a hero.
I think it is valid for all of these styles of portal. They still minions but not targetable ones.
This will be a really fun card to watch. I think it will be slower than most people are assuming, but with the reveal of Lakkari Felhound, it appears that might be the direction Warlock is going. I wonder if Warlock will get some interesting buff cards for those Imps now that Power Overwhelming is going HOF.
