Ragnaros the Firelord was an incredibly powerful Elemental Lord and master of all fire elementals. He ruled for more than three hundred years over his minions from deep inside the fiery core of Blackrock Mountain. After being banished back to the Firelands, he aligned himself with Deathwing and his fellow Elemental Lord, Al'Akir, in the effort to purge all life from Azeroth. To help bring about the end of days, Ragnaros laid siege to the World Tree Nordrassil on Mount Hyjal, unleashing his most powerful minions. Despite the incredible destructive forces at his disposal, the mortal champions of Azeroth were able to lay siege to the Firelord's domain, where they bested all of the challenges he laid before them, and eventually destroyed him within his own fortress.
Ragnaros the Firelord
Card Text
Can't attack. At the end of your turn, deal 8 damage to a random enemy.
Flavor Text
Ragnaros was summoned by the Dark Iron dwarves, who were eventually enslaved by the Firelord. Summoning Ragnaros often doesn’t work out the way you want it to.
Card Sounds
Kinda makes the card too strong doesn't it? Pretty much a random targeted charge while taking no damage in return. Yes he can be polymorphed, silenced, hexed, but still, that's 2 for 1 guaranteed.
A lot of legendaries are at least 2 for 1. Eg black knight taking out ironbark protector for free. I think that's kinda the point of legendaries.

8 damage is great, but if he hits something useless like a 1/1 minion, then is immediately removed next turn by a card, doesn't really make Rag OP exactly...
Exactly; there's always the chance you'll be wasting a card slot, 8 mana and usually an entire turn's worth of casting on removing just a tiny little minion.
Would make decks like Priest even harder to play, and Amaz would be devastated.
Would silence allow this card to attack anything you want?
yup
Yes, but keep in mind that his fireball ignores taunts and even stealthers, so being able to "aim" him isn't always the best choice.
Not only that, but his ability means he's not taking damage like he would be if he attacked.
Ragnaros the stealthed-Auctioneer slayer, Champion of the Miracle Rogue matchup!
Got into a Russian roulette fight with this card. Both of us had 7 health left, no cards left in our hands and a ton of small attack minions with taunt on the board. (Paladin vs Shaman). I ended up losing, but it was a really intense 5 turns of watching each of the fire lords pick another at random wondering if it was aiming at our hero health pool. Every turn we both tried to flood the board with minions to lower the chance of being hit.
How could this NOT be seen as OP? Let's see... I play the card and before my opponent can do anything, it does 8 damage. Next turn, let's suppose its behind a taunt, it hits for 8 more damage (total 16), I end my turn and 8 more damage for a total of 24 on two turns from one card. Not to mention the fact that being an 8 mana card, we're pretty well into the game and its very reasonable to expect my opponent could be dead the turn after playing this card? HOW is it not OP that this can end the game all by itself the turn after its played?
Sorry, but for my two cents, its the most OP in the game.
5/13/14 UPDATE: (I tried to reply to my own post but apparently that's not possible, so here's an updated reply from me as of 5/13/14.
Now that I have and have actually played Ragnaros, I see its NOT as OP as I originally thought. Not being able to attack was definitely a drawback, 8 Health seems fairly easy to eliminate (or minimize with spells).
That being said, Rag has won more games for me than anything else (with the possible exception of King Krush and just a bit more than Leeroy Jenkins). As futhead pointed out, drop Rag, end your turn, silence him the next time (especially sitting behind a taunt) and you have one helluva mean attack!
And to think you thought 1 of these cards was bad .. i cloned a 2nd to finish the game off rather quickly ;P

I agree this card is ridonkulously overpowered.
Summons Ragnaros = Guaranteed 8 damage.
Next turn - Enemy silences ragnaros to leave you with an 8/8 which had has done 8 damage and can now attack whatever it wants.
Or your enemy destroys it leaving you with having done 8 damage and wasting one of their big cards, unless your a priest.
So 8 damage for 8 mana and wasting an enemy's card is not the worst legendary I can think of *cough* Lorewalker Cho
Um....plenty of cards can kill you as fast or faster (Leeroy, for example). Ragnaros is definitely no where near the most powerful card in the game. Once you get out of the "wood league" (rank 20 and better), your opponents generally know how to deal with large threats rather quickly, so it's rare that Ragnaros will be able to end a game by himself in a turn or two. Very rare.
The MAXIMUM amount of damage Ragnaros can do per turn is 8. That's good, but absolutely no where near overpowered. I realize that when you first start playing Hearthstone, Rag seems like the best card in the world. Once you get a little more experienced, though, it soon sets in that there are countless ways to deal with him and it's the cards that can kill you out of the blue that are more dangerous (again, Leeroy is one).
If you want to talk about cards that, by themself without comboing them, are the most powerful, Alexstrasza is MUCH more powerful than Ragnaros. 9 mana for a choice of up to 15 unavoidable damage or up to 14 healing AND an 8/8 on board is absolutely incredible.
