Such a stupid idea make mage secrets even more cheaper... This card is insane - turn one secret...
But the secrets going to be wasted on a turn 1 or 2 drop...
Whats the point blowing a secret on t1? it probably is only great against classes that you know will drop huge above curve stuff, even then the enemy can easily probe it out safely (even better than mid game because on turn 4/5/6 they can drop their big thing on curve w/o having to probe that turn 3/4/5/6 secret!
You play this mid to late game to cheese out a 3 mana secret with a spare 1 mana you have left from playing off curve.
Might provide an edge for trading when they have a 2/1 to fight as well as trying to probe the secret safely.
Made a secret mage http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/671557-secret-mage feel free to make addition to it
It may be worth noting that on turn 8 you could use Kabal Lackey as a one mana spell for the purpose of Archmage Antonidas.
Archmage Antonidas > Kabal Lackey > Counterspell for example.
A counterspell would protect archmage too!
I don't really play Mage, how good are it's Secrets?
Because between this, Kirin Tor Mage, that new 5/5 that gets cheaper as you play secrets..... You could almost play a Secret mage deck that never has to pay for a secret and can counter spells and shit.
" Excuse me!? You are on fire!"
Damn. I cost secrets. :) secret mage hype.
unsure if REALLY GOOD but definitely very playable
is it worth a slot in a tempo deck that already makes very little use of secrets? unsure
i agree with you now that the cards are all out and one can see the landscape of the meta
I think this card is a gamble that most players will not make because players would rather have removal in hand than an early board combo that relies on hitting the curve afterward with few cards in hand.
Time will tell.
In wild: Mad scientist is still much better than this card because it thins your deck not your hand (that's worth waiting one more turn.)
Hunter still got a better one ....
Rework of Kirin Tor Mage
Is that a picture of a goron??
This card is just so awsome! Except for the obvious valet synergy this is why I think so:
I am extremely satisfied with Jeweled Scarab. I run it in my reno mage. 90 % of the cases I get to discover at least 1 secret since all the mage secrets cost 3 (basicly mage has simply the best 3 mana class cards, just think of them) . If you run 2 copies of scarab or combine it with Brann Bronzebeard u get really nice value and Kabal Lackey helps you greatly to 'dispose' your fat hand from secrets (every reno deck runs at least an Ice Block).
Some Ethereal Arcanist combo wombo would be available at turn 5 - Mirror Entity andCounterspell can get you board dominance.
Alexstrasza ≥ Kabal Lackey >Counterspell to ensure 8 dmg to the face next turn as you pervent removal/heal.
This card may find a place in some freeze mage decks, who knows.
as if mad scientist wasn't aggravating enough, great
mad scientist bring secret from your deck not in your hand also hes wild card , but about this card you can choose what secret in your hand you want to play first , but both of cards is awesome for secret mage or freeze mage
This is ganna suck if Priest or Warlock discovers this. waste of a discover space.
Not sure about this. Let's check active mage secrets
Ice Barrier: Ok for playing on first turn if you're against aggro deck. But other situations, you wanna use better than first turn i think.
Mirror Entity: Why you wanna play entity on first turn? You can get better value.
Counterspell: Not bad actually. You can cut your opponent tempo on early game.
Effigy: Worst secret on first turn.
Vaporize: I don't think you'll use this secret.
Ice Block: Like Ice Barrier.
Spellbender: Is there any player who playing spellbender? No one can make you sad.
I aggre, 1 drop + secret is better than 3 mana secret, you can get good tempo play with this combo but just a little gain there. And you need to use 2 card for just 2 mana advantage + 1 mana body. Maybe reno decks will use it, tempo mages have better cards than this.
But it can push for insane tempo later in the game. You can staple this card + a secret onto any later turn for a fairly significant swing. This card is honestly something you wouldn't want to play turn 1 if you can help it.
