Best known as proposed by unexperinced players budget substitute for Bloodmage Thalnos in Freeze Mage and Oil Rogue. But often it is better to run something like Acolyte of Pain or Earthen Ring Farseer instead...

Don't see how a 2 mana 1/1 is better than a 2 mana 2/2 that are both focused on spell damage is better.

One of them draws you a card. That is extremely good compared to this. I mean this is a good budget card though.

Can be a good replacement for Bloodmage Thalnos as it's still low lost with +1 spell damage, just doesn't have the death rattle of draw a card.

With it's balanced 2/2 and at 2 mana cost it proves well in both early game and late game (especially with combos).

With a good balanced 2/2 and the bonus +1 Spell damage, the Kobold Geomancer is great addition for players who like to up their spell damage (and not just magic-using classes! Rogues are deadly with these guys.)

It has enough HP that it could survive a weak attack, and the mana it costs allows you to save up for more powerful cards or combos. Its 2 attack proves a good enough threat in the early game, and the minions works well with other support cards.
