This thing has real potential. It's a straight up 1 mana +1. The worst cards it can get aren't going to ruin you, at worst they'll be kind of dead, but there will be times where you get Fireball, Flamestrike, Polymorph even a Frostbolt would come on curve and be pretty insane. I see a lot of potential.
I don't know where this would fit into a mage deck though. So long as Mana Wyrm is dominant in the one drop space, it greatly limits where you would want this in your deck. I suppose it could be considered a mid to late game emergency spell card, but what do you drop in favor of that?
Why do people assume you can't run it alongsideMana Wyrm? Tempo Mage has a very low amount of 1-drops, compared to other aggressive decks. This doesn't seem too bad. Somewhat comparable to Webspinner. It doesn't have the Beast synergy, but a random Mage spell is pretty high quality.
God damn, this couldn't replace Novice engineers in Freeze mage, cuz u don't need a random card in freeze... u need to mill ur deck faster =\
you can still run it in freeze, at least one copy....not like freeze mage has something to do on turn one and often enough you have time to squeeze it in somewhere.
Imagine getting a third iceblock or an icelance from it. At worst you got a dead card.
It is definitely a very good card. Reno mage sure. Would Tempo mage use this? Would Freeze mage use this? Maybe. We will have to see how consistently you get a good spell.
This could replace Novice engineers in Freeze mage, and if it draws additional survival and burns consistently it would be really good, if it doest bad, maybe not really bad though.
Tempo mage doesn't give too many shits what spells it gets, but it already burns through its entire hand super fast, so it would be hard to but another low cost in there.
Brann is interesting. There could be a new meta coming. Brann, Faceless Summoner, Raving Grimoire. Prolly need more battlecries then that, but those are strong enough with Brann and by them selves to want to build a deck around.
We need full art!!
My friend Reno Jackson likes this.
love it!
this card is INSANE.
Nice! Also I love his "face" :3
This card is absolutely insane. Raving Grimoire is similar to Novice Engineer in that it is a 1/1 body that maintains card advantage. But, unlike Novice Engineer this card does not make you lose tempo when played, as many one drops in the game have one health and can be traded favorably into, and that alone makes it constructed worthy, never mind the synergy with Brann Bronzebeard. Sorcerer's Apprentice, and Flamewaker. Overall, a great card that will see absolute play in tempo mage and could sneak its way to other mage decks.
there is a huge diverence between draw a card, discover a card and add a random card to your hand. if you just want a spell you could play Clockwork Gnome (in wild).
[card]Raving Grimoire[/card] is good but not a tempo card. the stats are just "fine" and the draw can be useless/to expensive for tempo and the tempo flamewalker mage just dont have a space for it.
i would see him as a 1 drop for control decks, so you get a additional "ping" and maybe a removal.
You are right in the fact that there is a difference between those different draw mechanics. But, the reason why this card is so good is because it gives the player a one drop that can threaten their opponent's early game, which would make it significantly easier for the player to acquire tempo early on, and a card that will more than likely give the player a spell that can be used to swing the game in the player's favor, while at the same time having synergy with many cards that are staples in tempo mage.
I do not see this card being played by control decks, as control decks would rather have efficient removal that they can consistently draw from their decks rather than relying on this card to give them the chance to draw it, a similar problem that bars Grand Crusader from constructed play.
but a one drop like this doesnt threaten an opponent. a mana wyrm or any 1/3 or 2/1 is WAY better at doing this.
compare it to webspinner. would you play webspinner in a deck that has good draw cards and an insane 1 drop like mage does? also a minion can be played to get something just on the board so you your ememy has to trade in if he is low, mage spells are good but you could get some really situational cards like shatter or spellbender.
the difference between the book and grand crusader is the price and the cards you can get. control decks lack the early drop and play more often off curve so they could squize a 1 mana card between (execute/shieldslam) and 6 mana are just WAY to expensive to get a card. would you pay 6 mana to get a 5/5 "maybe get a card that is cheaper than 4, isnt a secret and will save your live. btw the chance is 27% to get a combo piece/heal/debuff and just 9% for vanilla heal that is lower than 4 mana."
also novice would nowaday only see some play in combodecks if it would have remained a 1/2.
ergo the card is good but far from insane.
The Babbling Book, although not the best early threat, provides consistency for a turn one play, which provides significant momentum if one is looking to tempo out their opponent, as it can be used to deal with one drops such as Fiery Bat and Southsea Deckhand while ensuring that the player retains steam for the following turns.
As you pointed out in you analysis of Grand Crusader, the chance of getting a useful card is fairly low. Which is precisely why this card won't see play in control decks, as they are not looking for early drops, they are looking for ways to deal with early drops efficiently to stall out the game significantly, and the chance of getting a potentially situational or useless card is just not worth the deck slot. But, for a tempo mage, getting any spell is useful due to the massive amount of spell synergy that is already in their deck.
Overall, although this card may see play in control decks, I think that it will more than likely find a place in tempo mage.
Thats a good card, and hope mage gets some other nice stuff, i Want my Jaina back on tier 1 List. Sadly if TGT and Blackroock is removed after Karazhan, Mage lost Arcane bold and flamewaker. so the tempo mage is RIP. so we need other good cards, like this 1 drop. that the Mage don't die.
Keep Up the Good Work Blizzard, and Make Jaina a become a strong girl.
we will get a additional dlc without removing tgt/black.
im happy to lose flamewaker. he forces you to have removal otherwise you cant kill him most of the time. but i hope we will see another kind of tempomage, maybe with some new secrets and a way to draw/discover a secret
