"funny decks" kinda means it's not gonna be in standard anyway, u know.
Tree of Life!
In all seriousness at T10+ it would be very bad to play this for yogg.
Theres three ways yogg can screw you over, heal, target creature buffs and damage spells.
Yogg could easily screw you over and at T10 you cant afford this in many situations, having the heals become more dmg spells you put yourself at risk of increased death.
it is just you :)
I think this card is really good. This is because the nature of how we use Auchenai soulpriest. As a main control priest, most of the time I find myself:
1. Play circle combo, leaving a soul priest with 1 health on the board, which is irrelevant in term of tempo. Having embrace of shadow will allow us to have 1 additional hero power ping for deathrattle cards.
2. Bursting down a Warlock from ~15 health. In this case, again, the presence of the 3/5 body does not bring value, since you have already won the game or auchenai will immediately be removed. Embrace the shadow will allow more mana for an earlier burst.
And lets be honest, no one play a turn 4 tempo auchenai (too slow agaisnt hunter or face shaman, bring too little value against control or midrange). The only situation I found myself play an auchenai and have it on the board with as a threat is against a control warrior when I already have upgraded hero power.
So to sum up, embrace the shadow is more viable in most situations, and thats what make it a great card (but Im not saying it will replace auchenai entirely, it just add a very nice and flexible variation to synergize with circle and flash heal).
This is a good card and must be used with rather then instead auchenai just to expand the possibility of removal/facial damage or board clear. But i think this should be combined with a 1 card draw, because you not only loosing a card basicaly for nothing (just to set-up following actions) but you also limit yourself by paying 2 additional mana.
Also i think adding card draw makes sense just because if you focus more on damage/removal you will not be able to draw with clerics and will quickly run out of cards. Also if you already have 2 copies of this in your deck with flash heals and circles you probably will have to just cut the clerics because you will have just too many low-impact tech cards. This is already a serious problem for priest as most people may've seen in Zetalot decks.
Probably running Gatgetzan will become a thing in decks which will use this card, because rly no draw mechanic for priest except the clerics (thoughtsteal is a value card but not too reliable and not realy considered as draw)
So... the proper balance will be this + 1 card draw effect. If that thing changes the card could potentialy be meta-defining. Without it it's playable, i.e. average in my opinion.
It can be better with a Garrison Commander with augmented hero power for example, or Velen
Anyway hope that the best is yet to come for priest. Especialy need some Velen Chosen alternative
You can play both. The 2 Mana less makes a lot of sense, and the body of the auchenai is not that relevant, as Patapon postet above me. You can have 2 Auchenais and one of this. I often sit at Circle or the auchenai. This provides some consistancy (Is this the correct word?). I like it. Its good, and not op. It fits the theme, and i hope otk-Priests will become a thing. I have Velen and i am using it barely :)
you could use it on a OTK combo, also it allows you to Embrace the Shadow +Circle of Healing on turn 2, 3, and also hero power on 4 and on
This increase Consistency of turning Zombie Chow and Corrupted Healbot. It not about who is better between Auchenai Soulpriest and this. Also this being a spell, there are much more effects that interact with it, such as Yogg-Saron, this can turn the RNG fest into more RNG fest.
Embrace the Shade of Naxxramas is ours!!!
Against healadin (new meta) Thoughtsteal Forbidden Healing- enjoy 16 damage to opponents face!
can't count how many priest games I had where I have been preying for the other half of the combo... well before priest got a load more aoe options but I still like it
2 mana flamestrike 8)
Sick in combo OTK priest. Definitely will play that instead of Auchenai.
I'm looking forward to watching Zetalot procuring and creating salt with this nice card!
Flash Healing might see some play with this. Maybe with Mind Blast?
I like the card concept, but I think it is a bit over-priced. Auchenai Soulpriest has the same effect while it lives. In the worst case, which is your Auchenai getting destroyed before it can attack, it was an 4-mana Embrace the Shadow + a 3/5 for only 2 mana. I think this card could be cheaper or do more things (as card draw).
The cost is fine. Embrace the Shadow already is a 2 mana, 2 cards board removal if combo'd with Circle of Healing, and that's ridiculous! I trust Blizzard's decision to have it at this cost.
When Corrupted Healbot was revealed it felt like it needed something like this, auchenai would have been too slow for it to work well but with this card it will be far easier to combo!
Just dream:
-turn 5 Corrupted Healbot,
-turn 6 Embrace the Shadow + Baron Rivendare and then kill your healbot (by trading into something).
8 x 2 = 16 damage on turn 6 if you can pull it off!
Brann Bronzebeard, now doubles deathrattles.
Lol my mistake, not sure what i was thinking, meant rivendare ofc
Updated.
