Tempo decks that didn't care about beasts played dire mole all the time though.
See point (1) of my post. Tempo mage doesn't care about 1-drops, especially since they nerfed Mana Wyrm. This may see play in new tempo mage decks, but in that case it's going to be on the back of spell damage +1, not the 1/3 body.
1 mana 1/3 is good. Dire Mole saw play in some decks without any other text.
1 mana 1/3 with upside is even better.
1 mana 1/3 with spell damage in the class that arguably utilizes spell damage the best? The only thing that would stop it seeing play is not having a good fit (highlander doesn't have doubles of the good spells, though even then you could just hold this to play alongside any one of them, and creatureless mage wouldn't jeapordise value for this guy).
Dire Mole had the beast tag, though. Which mattered for most decks it saw play in.
There are plenty of 1 mana 1/3 single-class minions with a specific upside. Whether or not this sees any action, IMO, is going to come down to whether or not there's a viable mage deck that either (1) cares for competitive 1-drops, which isn't likely given the history of the class, or (2) wants to make use of cheap spell damage effects. I certainly wouldn't put it into a highlander mage today.
Looks good. Is there any chance they can make a 0 cost Spell Damage minion? Maybe a 0/1 Mage card.
