Was actually a pretty nice guy before, you know, the whole Lich King thing.

I think we can all agree that pensaer likes the golden animation too.
Custom interaction with Anub'Rekhan or RIOT! :P
If only it were 8 mana...
I thought this card was awful when it was first announced, but now that all the cards are released, this card actually seems pretty good! The meta's going to be way slower now thanks to all of the new healing cards, and hero powers and general control heavy cards, so this card is likely to be viable. Now I doubt this card would be used in mill rogue, but it would definately make it into a late game power threat rogue deck. I doubt that sort of deck would be better than mill rogue though, and I think mill rogue may be a tier 1 deck in this expansion because it hard counters every heavy control deck. We will see though
This guy is designed to be used in Control Rogue. Whether Control Rogue is remotely viable is in question but let us look at this card based on how useful he is in control rogue.
If this guy gets transformed you're going to pretty much get wrecked, but the same is true for Tirion Fordring and look how badly the weakness hurt him*. If this guy gets silenced, you're left with an 8/4 for 9 that did nothing the turn he came out. You could argue that he's worse than Tirion in that sense; usually a 6/6 is more useful than an 8/4 but not always. If this guy is dealt with any other way, he's value. Yes, he dies to Eviscerate or Frostbolt plus ping or Flamestrike or either part of Big Game Hunter, but you still get the Nerubian which can often trade for another card, giving you a 2 for 1. There are generally cheap ways to deal with him, but for the most part, you need 2 cheap damage spells every time he comes out to keep up, and sooner or later you're going to run out of them, and that's when his 8 attack starts to look mighty scary.
However, even control matches have some element of tempo to them, and is it feasible to play this guy enough times for your opponent to run out of answers before the loss of tempo loses you the game? Only time will tell.
*Subject to change if Polymorph: Boar becomes popular.
Like Grim Patron, there's a big chance this might be better or worse than we think.
It seems to be a card that requires a deck type previously not seen from Rogue to work and the meta-game has to be slow (which is entirely possible with all of the cards that punish aggro in this expansion). It seems like that in order for this to work it needs to be fit into a rogue that makes the game go for long (not exactly mill but more of something along the line of fatigue rogue) because if you get to replay Anub'arak say 2-3 types and you are not dead you have basically won the game because of all of the resources the opponent will be forced to use getting rid of it each time. But let's look at it in each situation:
When you're winning: This card seals the game, the opponent will never have enough resources to come back into the game if Anub'arak is on the board.
If you're even: This card will be forced to be dealt with and could either put you into a winning or losing situation depending on if they can immediately answer it efficiently (if they can you're gonna be losing because they you spent your entire turn playing 1 card and your opponent was able to deal with it while continuing to develop the board, if they can't then you're going to be winning because they're forced to spend a lot of resources to kill it off and have lost behind on board or used up their turn).
If you're behind: This card is going to be useless because they can simply ignore it and go for the kill.
So over all, I like this card a lot, assuming that I get it from packs I am definitely going to try and make it work. It has the potential to be good but just doesn't work in the oil rogue. Would definitely work in a value rogue that Blizzard has been subtly been pushing us to make since Blackrock (or GvG if you count Trade Prince Gallywix).
Trash... poor value... instant dust.... middle finger to Rogues... Just some of the comments on this card. People have been watching too much Youtube I think, trying to look like a cynical pro with their card analysis. In base stats, it's 12/8 for 9 mana which is good value. The fact that you can play this repetitively only adds to the potential of the card. Now we have Below the Grounds as well, I could see this fitting in a kind of grinder/outlast rogue. It doesn't matter how I can see it working because I guarantee in the post expansion meta this card will see play. Someone cleverer than I will work out how to put it in a deck. But its a good card.
I'm looking forward to those Anub'arak + Kel'Thuzad Trolden videos... :D
That would actually return the card to your hand, similar to malorne I guess
I feel like he would be competitive if he was maybe a 4/4 with the same effect for like 5 or 6/4 with the same effect for like 6 mana, but right now he is really overpriced for a severe late game effect. You could look at it this way also, rogue never had a reason to run Emperor Thaurissan with this guy they would have a reason to now. Anub'Arak
When returned to players hand its cost should be reduced by 2. 9 7 5 3 1 0 0 0. late game for rogues that is not multiple card based.
Right? Nobody wants to keep spending 9 mana over and over and over again.
its gonna ridiculous if you are able to pull it off without it being hexed or pollymorphed its a basically a 9 mana nerubian egg that draws more 9 mana eggs definitely a control card
It's pretty sad that so many people have condemned this card before its release. Honestly, I think it looks pretty fun.
People also dissed grim patron before release, said it will be unplayable. Look how wrong they were :D
Thats the main problem. It looks fun but unplayable .Would be good on warrior, shaman etc ... but not on tempo rogue
Yeah the term "fun" can be used in Arena indeed.
If you wanna add more fun, you should ask Blizzard to make the Nerubian have a Taunt.
On a serious note, it is TOO SLOW for its given effect and the tradeoff (Mana/Effect for Value) is not worth the tempo.
Unless you're in a commanding position of the board (just like Kelthuzad), this card would give you the ticket to win.
Yeah, I get that it isn't the most practical card in the game, but who cares. I'm not going to be the best Hearthstone player in the world, so why try to be? If I were bothered by the viability of cards, decks, etc. I would use those optimised net-decks that the pros develop, not the gimmicky anti-spell mage or all demon warlock decks that I make. All I'm saying is that I'd enjoy playing him in a deck, sure he might not work sometimes, but those times that he does would be really fun.
same here, however it's not just the pros that play those stupid net decks, it's literally 95% of ladder. So pretty much every time you play this card, you're either going to go against some stupid rush deck, and you're either dead anyway, or if you have healing and the whole shebang, it's literally no better than playing any other card because you won anyway. If you're not against said rush decks, then you're just going to go vs a stupid handlock or control warrior that will just kill this, then play their BS ragnaros, and then kill you with a combo the next turn. Trust me, happens every time I use "fun" decks. There wouldn't be these problems if blizzard actually attempted to balance the game.
