RELEASE THE KRAKEN!
A larger and unattractive Fire Elemental. I like this card because it is in no way short of damage. Its attack is equal to its cost, whilst it deals 4 upon entrance. Pick it like how you pick Fire Elemental or 7/7 divine shield tank.
B-b-but... krakens are gigantic squids... this is some kind of a spiked naga...
hmmm. I don't get why this card is not a Beast.
Kraken seem pretty beastly to me....
It could be a beast, would be awesome.
This is a fantastic newbie card. For some reason, other than force tank max, we haven't gotten any BIG commons, or even many big rares for newbies to play. Sure, it's outshone by pretty much every high mana legendary, but newbies won't have any of those yet.
I was thinking a little more about this beast these last days and concluded that it may have a lot of play comboed with Recombobulator.
First, play North Sea Kraken and deal 4 damage from its battlecry.
Then, pray for the opponent let it alive.
Next turn, attack with it AAAAAAND recombobulate!
Worst scenario: Majordomo Executus. Nothing's perfect... ¬¬
Second worst scenario: just a brand new North Sea Kraken...
Average scenario: Lord Jaraxxus, Nefarian, Onyxia, Alexstrasza or Cenarius. Good legendaries, but no battlecry... Maybe some return effect will be welcome here.
Good scenario: Mekgineer Thermaplugg, Nozdormu, Volcanic Lumberer, Ysera. Big creatures with nice powers.
Amazing scenario: Malygos, King Krush, Mal'Ganis. Magic damage +5? Hero immunity? Charging 8-attack beast? And some mana left to cast, let's say, two Fireballs?
Can't wait to try this...
not to rain on your parade but that seems like a lot of work just for 4 additional damage.
it would be a neat experiment tho and see how consistently you could recombobulate a good minion. you might be on to something. especially with all those class specific legends. i might add a recombobulator to my malilock deck to see how good it works. goo king krush!
4 extra damage + 9 damage North Sea would deal. But with BGH being in every deck i dont think it can survive that much.
It's really comparable to Ragnaros, which is a (sometimes unreliable) 8 mana finisher. Rather, it's a 9/7 minion and reliable removal wrapped up in one card (value a vanilla 9/7 at 8 mana and a four damage spell at 3 mana and this is a value of 11 mana wrapped up for 9).
It's a big, efficient, awesome minion for new players and budget players in the lower ranks, and it's a very solid arena pick. It probably isn't gonna find a home in any constructed deck since the 9-slot already is fairly crowded with Ysera, Nefarian, Mal'Ganis, Cenarius, Jaraxxus and Alexstrazsa (not to mention that Ragnaros simply does it better), but I still really really like this card for its value and cheapness.
Seems like a balanced card. Not playable in constructed, but average-above average in arena. I'll definitely draft it to try it.
He sexually identify himself as a Fire Elemental. Ever since he was a little kraken he wanted to spit fire on those tiny minions. Now when he grow up he began spit fire on azure drakes which totaly annihilates them. Unfortunately some people say that he is too big and they can't handle his size. His dream is to go back to his childhood and be like those fire elementals...
lmao made my day
i see this card somehow being played in druids...
Not a bad card... And that battlecry makes me wonder, what if one day Blizzard come up with some kind of battlecry damage-buffing card, like what Fallen Hero will do to hero powers?
Last month I was thinking about the same thing. What about some cards that buff and counter battlecry effects? Like, you can play Flame Imp and take no damage, or use Lord Jaraxxus as a minion, that sort of thing. There's so much to do with the keywords... imagine a minion with "Inspire: activate all battlecry effects of the minions on the board."
Imagine the decks pepole could create! I hope Blizzard does something like that someday...
I love the design of this card. It does exactly what a Kraken should do: be huge and gobble up something smaller when it suddenly appears!
I also love that it's the first Common 9-drop, and that, since it has a useful battlecry, it is actually a viable threat in lower-rank budget control decks (rather than just being a big, dumb, fat body).
If it did 5 damage instead of 4, it might even have been viable competitively, but alas.
Bomb Lobber - I can do 4 damage at 5 mana!
Goblin Blastmage - I can do 4 damage at 4 mana!
North Sea Kraken - Ehm, I do 4 damage at 9 mana but I'm big and strong uhhh....
I hate to be rude, but could you change the uploaded image in any way with the one Blizzard posted on their site? You have the card text on one line, whereas in the official version it's on two.
There's minor consistency mistakes on other cards as well, like Wilfred Fizzlebang showing a zoomed in version of his portrait instead of the actual one. I'm so sorry for making such a rude comment.
If you go to the site you can see it's split into 2 lines:

This card will see play. Any card that has an immediate impact is worth playing. I'd almost run this over Rag since you can control where it hits.
