I enjoy using this in my new ramp druid. Control, Control control. Until we are both nearly in fatigue. Then Tree of Life and follow up with this bad boy. Should win at a canter. With the amount of handlocks around now this card is a great way of outreaching them. Actually might run Goblin Sapper... but thats another story.
Am I the only one that really really REALLY wants to double Faceless this?
yes
Isnt golden Malorne the prettiest gold card released so far?
I think the bad cycle animation is only because the gif posted here has a bad loop.
it's not insane because Malorne is classified as a beast, webspinner gives you a random beast.
I'm trying to figure out how they thought this is balanced. This is as good as cobra shot is bad, if not more so.
Is it just me or is the gold animation comically animated? The third joint on it's leg looks like a prop for a cheesy high school play.
got this last night thanks to my gold Webspinner, the gold version looks so awesome
How is this a 9/7 for 7 and has really no downside, yet mage gets a 7/7 for 7 that has potential downside????
IMO it's about Druid's central theme of being a class revolving around sheer strength in stats. Don't compare it to Flame Leviathan though, that card is just downright bad. Compare it with like Ironbark Protector. Marlorne isn't ridiculously overpowered but is one of the better legendaries in GvG. And to be honest, I thought Druid of the Fang was more broken.
The thing is...
Ironbark Protector = Sheer strength in stats
Malorne = Sheer strength in stats + only removed from play when killed while silenced + protects you from fatigue
The only "weakness" this card could potentially have is that he could get in the way of you drawing important cards, but even that isn't a real downside because he IS an important card. If you were able to play Malorne why would you ever not want to draw him again? He's a 9/7 for 7 mana... that's ALWAYS an incredibly good card to draw. It can be difficult to get rid of an Ironbark Protector due to its raw stats, which is perfectly fine, but at least once you do get rid of it it's gone for good. Sheer strength in stats and a reshuffle deathrattle are perfectly fine mechanics/designs on their own, but when put together they completely mitigate each others weaknesses.
No matter how you look at it, Malorne is severely over-budgeted. This isn't a matter of reinforcing a class' niche/uniqueness, it's wanting to have your cake and eat it too. I think it'll need to be nerfed it in at least one of the following ways:
1. Reduce his stats.
2. Increase his Mana cost.
3. Change his effect into something completely different.
4. Give him an actual drawback.
The downside of this card, is that it can prevent you from drawing removal. It doesn't have taunt or any on play activation. For this reason it doesn't solve immediate problems. It is a win a fatigue war.
Druids have more ways to give a minion taunt than most classes (Mark of the Wild, Mark of Nature, Dark Wispers) and also have access to neutral cards like Sunfury Protector, Defender of Argus, and Rusty Horn. It doesn't even need to be taunted though, it's a The Beast that has no drawback and recycles itself for just 1 more Mana...
Having minions that specialize in strength through raw stats is effectively removal in the form of a minion. Also, it's not as if Druids have trouble drawing cards with tools like: Wrath, Excess Mana, Nourish, Ancient of Lore, Grove Tender, and Ysera.
PS: I know Ysera isn't exclusive to Druids and technically doesn't draw cards, but she's a staple in just about every Druid deck and can give you Nightmare or Ysera Awakens for removal.
Malorne would still be the unrivaled "master of fatigue wars" if he wasn't quite so massive; maybe like a 7/7, 7/6, 6/7, or 6/6 for example.
Would Baron Rivendare's ability put two of these in your deck? If so, that's amazing! I never played around much with Druid but there's lots of potential here!
I think this card seems insane, and the fact that even Hunter can run it seems pretty cool. Also great mechanic for the cost, really excited to watch some games unfold with Malorne
its druid only...
Webspinner. Hunters can get the card, it was confirmed by Ben Brode.
oh yeah forgot about that card
Yeah, but Hunters can't run the card (add it directly to their decks).
