I can imagine lucky hunter start with this. Turn 1 coin+call pet. Turn 2 Highmane... Have fun :D
But it's not likely to happen, because nobody plays beast themed hunter, thanks to buzzard nerf.
Mabey more people whant to play King Krush now. 8/8 with charge for 5 mana is pretty good.
Playable Beasts which could benefit from it:
Highmane, Buzzard, Rhino, Kondo, KK.
It seems too cute for current Hunter lists, but may find a spot if new archetypes rises.
"Used in 1.26% of Hunter decks"
What? How?!?
People posting decks here that has this card in it. You will see up there that its currently in 7 decks (at the time of writing) on Hearthpwn.
I'm more surprised there is only 555.56 Hunter decks in all of Hearthpwn.
If this was your 29th Arena draw and you have a ton of beasts... Then it would be great. But I'm thinking Blizzard didn't want something to meld with the current Hunter decks. Can you imagine the outcry?
I think that to even be viable, this needs to read: "Draw a Beast card from your deck. It costs (4) less."
That would be pretty good indeed xD I would definitely use that in my Control Hunter to dig for Savannah's and play them for 2 =P
Anyway, I would have prefer that but it would probably have been too strong ^^
That would actually result in having only Savannah Highmane as a beast card in the meta decks and milling for this card. So no, it would not be better.
Card draw for 2 with a possible instant beast play is good enough.
I'm kinda disappointed, I used to love those Beast synergies but Blizzard decided to restrict them and now you'll probably have Deathrattle / Mech themed builds to fit in aggressive playstyle so it's hard to judge on the one card Hunter got for the moment.
Anyway, at least it makes me hope that Blizzard prepared us some cool new Beasts in this expansion, especially for the early to mid game to curve out a Beast themed Deck beginning with Webspinner and ending with Savannah Highmane. This card could potentially fit in this kind of Deck but for now it's pretty unusable (it should work with spells summoning Beasts : Animal Companion, Unleash The Hounds and Snake Trap)
In a more beast focused deck, this could be a very good card. It would not go into the current Hunter lists as it stands. In face hunter, you don't have enough space to fit it in, let alone enough beasts to make it matter. In the mid-range builds with Highmane as the top of the curve, it could potentially replace Flare if secrets are not an issue, but again, even the most beast heavy list I have seen runs 8 beasts in total. Not exactly great odds of triggering the 2nd part of the card.
yeah, because people will start playing that card for the single unlikely combo
I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic...
I think what most players are missing here is that it's a card draw + tempo mechanic. At worst it's like an end game Wild Growth where it's 2 mana draw a card. At best it's 2 mana draw a card and play it for free/discount. That's a massive tempo swing assuming the beast is decent. The potential for a Savannah Highmane for only 4 mana total is pretty epic. This card also shares a lot of the appeal as it does with Tracking - it's another way to thin out your deck quickly without having to discard.
As for the comparison to Far Sight - Call Pet is dramatically better. If you value card draw at roughly 1.5 to 2 mana cost Far Sight is spend half the mana on the draw and half the mana on the discount. Comparatively Call Pet is spend only enough mana to justify a draw and possibly get a free discount but at worst you've still only spent the typical card draw mana cost.
That's how I see it at least - YMMV. We'll have to see if this works its way into beast focused decks or if it falls to the side.
I agree with you but I think card draw for Hunter is closer to 1 to 1.5 mana cost because of Flare and Tracking. It's potential to be good is based on having beasts with high mana costs that you'd want to include in your deck. i.e. something better than King Krush or King Mukla
From a value stand point you are correct, 2 mana card draw is acceptable, however I think this card wont see any play because a beast focused hunter is simply not as strong as a deathrattle hunter. I've played hunter nearly exclusively for 3 or 4 months now, I have over 700 wins with hunter and I can say with confidence that the old mid range beast hunters (which I played for nearly the whole first month during the initial hunter boom) just isn't as strong as the deathrattle variants. I doubt that this expansion will contain any beast in it because of the theme they are going with, that said right now I have 3 different hunter decks and the most beast cards any of them have is 7. Personally I would love to see the return of the mid range beast hunter but after the buzzard nerf and the leeroy nerf beast hunters lost their 2 biggest advantages, their major card draw mechanic, and their finisher.
how many expensive beast cards are actually run in a beast hunter deck? when i ran mine (before the nerf), i had maybe 6; only about 8 worth running in a beast deck; works out to about a 1 in 4 chance that it will hit a good card. so most times you will pay 2 mana for a free 1-3 mana beast or just 2 mana to draw a card; either way it isn't really worth it.
It's far sight for hunter but restricted to beasts... in other words the majority of the cards that the effect would work for already don't cost much mana. I feel like the point of this card is more to simply not give hunter any more of an edge then it currently has. Hopefully the other hunter cards will be better
It's NOT a Far Sight. When you draw a beast it's a free Innervate. Note that this card gives you 2 mana advantage while Far Sight gives you 0. This card is much better than Far Sight if you can draw a beast.
