Site Update: Animated Golden Cards, Zeriyah on Deck Slots, Arena Card Packs, and Randomness

Update 9:35 PM EST: Added update from Zeriyah on Deck Slots, Arena Card Packs, Randomness, and more.

Site Update: Animated Golden Cards

We've gotten rid of the old non-animated golden cards and replaced them with shiny new animated ones! Not only are cards now animated, but they also have text placements which are identical to the ones in-game. These cards work flawlessly with our tooltips script, so if you'd like animated golden cards for your website, check out our tooltips page for more info.

We've prepared a post below which shows off some of the golden cards. Our cards display differently depending on your browser. Chrome users get the best version of the cards because the browser has better support for the webm format, where all other browsers will display gifs. If you can see the Ragnaros below rotating, you'll see the highest quality cards.

If you'd like to see all the golden cards, you can head on over to our card listing, which we've added a "Show Golden" option to so you can take them in all at once.

Zeriyah on Deck Slots, Arena Card Packs, and Randomness

The Hearthstone team is very careful about making changes to the interface as it can have a negative effect on the new player experience. Additionally, it's been confirmed, not just hinted, that there will be a new card to deal with secrets. Below is a summary of the wall of text Zeriyah posted earlier today.

Quote from Blizzard
  • One of the most difficult parts of game design is to put yourself in the shoes of someone that has never experienced your game before. As a veteran Hearthstone player, it may be hard to see from that vantage point, but it's something we always have to keep in mind.
  • The UI needs to stay intuitive and easy to navigate, especially for new players. Adding too much complexity to the UI can turn new players away from the game. The collection manager can already be a daunting experience.
  • The majority of Hearthstone players don't utilize all their deck slots, or even use all of their decks regularly. It's not the only reason, but it's a factor.
  • Allowing choice of both card packs in arena may be a simple fix, but they need to take the long term into consideration.
    • We can't expect our new players to be able to look at a pack and know all of the cards they might get out of that set, then choose that set as their reward.
  • Too much of Silence can homogenize the meta. Silence shouldn't be the only answer to cards with keywords/text on them, it should be an option.
  • There will be a new card to help deal with secrets in Goblins vs Gnomes.
  • The TeSPA card back, is intended to be a special perk for a very important organization, and will remain exclusive to TeSPA members at this time.
  • Random effects add an additional layer of the unexpected and fun to the game that makes for great experiences and epic stories. In the end, the best players will adapt and use the results of random effects to their advantage, as well as create and ideal situation in which random effects have the most favorable end result.
