Would be a fantastic sideboard card, if such a thing existed. Otherwise it's a bizarre pack filler card that won't even see play in Arena.
But, way more yolo.
If you can pull Tirion or Shirvalla it’s insane and probably gamewinning, if you pull Aldor or another small minion you basically played 6 mana recruit a minion for your opponent... wich is probably gamelosing.
This could actually be a nice pick from thevWitchdocktor if you play Dragon Paladin. If you know that the opponent will eventually OTK you with some kind of combo , you might wanna go for the yolo pick and hope Duel! doesn’t pull you the other Witchdocktor ^^ .
I somehow hope this card can bring Tirion Fordring back to the meta. He is my first hyped legendary from pack back to the very old day. A build around deck with Shirvallah, the Tiger, Zilliax or other divine shield or big guy could possible? Okay, maybe not...
Recruit a minion for both players and have them fight? Hmm.
- It disrupts combo decks; and with a turn 4 Truesilver Champion you can probably remove most minions too.
- Maybe can be used as a Mechano-Egg eggtivator? It's heavily reliant on RNG from both players though.
- Cheat out large stuff against aggro?
Maybe Paladin can get away with running just big / deathrattle / divine shield minions to consistently get value out of this.
Big Priest, Big Warrior and Hunter all ended up seeing play because they could cheat out minions consistently (at varying degrees of success) ...
Duel will certainly end up in highlight videos on Trolden^^
Anyone know if minions with rush/charge would get to make another attack after being summoned this way?
Judging from similar interactions - they wont
What interactions exactly? I know 2 spells that make minions attack, mass hysteria and the beast within. After both spells minions that attacked and survived can still make their regular attack.
What similar action? I would say charge/rush minion can attack the turn they are summoned. Since you don't actually target a minion with yours, you can use it to attack if it survives the Duel. Kinda like Mass Hysteria, you can play this card, and still attack with surviving minions after, even thought the spell made them attack once already.
Looks like they would both attack from the video. The defender died first so no re attack.
Well this just like another Dirty Rat in a way, only just for paladins.
A 5 mana epic that's basically an anti-combo tech card (that doesn't necessarily work, even, what creature do you expect to draw that would kill Malygos or even Prophet Velen?
Don't think we're going to see much of this card.
Then again...
Consider the fact that Paladin has access to Tirion, not to mention this has the potential to screw with your opponent in Wild if you pull Sylvanas and she dies. Also, this card might not outright draw something that would kill it, but it would significantly weaken it to the point that a Paladin may finish the minion off via board (one of Paladin's identities is summoning Silver Hand Recruits and other cheap minions).
It may screw up cards that rely on a strategy to win a game (Togwaggle, Mecha'thun, Shudderwock, Malygos, Even Shaman with 4 mana 7/7), but carries a double edged sword that other decks may WANT you to pull a card from the deck or hand (Cubelock, Odd decks with Baku, et cetera)
I'm noticing a pattern of Combo Hate cards being printed right now, as Blizzard did promise more cards like Dirty Rat.
what if it pulls Ticket Scalper for both players? Seems like they will atack themselfs just once so who is going to draw?
I believe both, if it actually counts as an attack, as overkill triggers even if the creatures dies while over killing.
the current players draws. overkill doesnt work opponent turn so if you casted duel, you draws
Anti combo tools for paladin?? Yes please! I love it! great flavor, neat effect. way more flavor than "joust"
Best when played in Wild Anyfin paladin since they want their combo pieces dead.
Welp, this is for sure a good card for a control deck with heavy minions.
Do they both attack if they survive the initial attack, like Mass Hysteria?
I think it's likely that only one attack occurs overall.
