Icy Veins Hearthstone Developer Interview
Damien from Icy Veins has the chance to sit down with Yong Woo at gamescom last week. We're going to see some improvements in the future to the rejoin and leavers system, and it looks like we may see some non-Blizzard IP introduced into Heroes at some point. Below is a newly found information recap of the full interview posted over on IcyVeins.
Quote from Yong Woo via IcyVeins.com
- Observer mode is the #1 request from the community and is currently at the top of the priority list. Replays are not being worked on.
- No new keywords (Charge, Battlecry, Deathrattle) are currently planned.
- Maybe they will add new deckslots, but only a small percentage of people actually need them.
- "Are you really using more than 9 decks actively? If not, delete the ones you are not using anymore, you would save yourself a lot of headaches in the future."
- User profiles and statistics were touched upon, but there is no definitive answer to when and how profiles are happening. Lot's of things will need to be considered.
Arena Issues Update
Rolkyr posted on the forums earlier to let us know the issues with the arena are still being worked on. If you're having issues, head on over to the thread and submit your details.
Quote from RolkyrFor those of you who have posted your information, thank you a great deal. The matter is being worked on. I will get out any updates as soon as I can. Thank you very much for your patience.
Others posts are going to be removed so we may better track the info of those trying to help.

Naxxramas T-Shirt now in the Blizzard Gear Store
Now YOU wear shirt!
If you were a fan of the T-Shirts that we were giving away last week, they're now available for purchase in the Blizzard Gear Store for $24 USD. The shirts have the design of the Heroic Naxxramas card back on them, a great companion when you're crushing your opponents with Naxxramas cards at Fireside Gatherings!
Thanks for the decklists!
9 Slots per class!@@#!@$!@#
As others have said here, the issue is not really that we need more deck slots, it's that we need the ability to save and load a deck. In a single play session I will likely only use 1-3 different decks, however which decks I choose is largely based on which classes I feel like playing (especially if I have a class specific quest). Since the daily quest can be for any of the 9 classes, it is very useful to have a deck ready to go for any given quest.
The only interface we currently have to 'save' our decks is to keep them in our deck list and there is no easy way to revert a deck to a previous version if you decide to experiment with some new cards. This was particularly frustrating for me during the solo adventures as many of the bosses required decks designed specifically for that encounter which meant I needed to destroy one of my class decks, defeat the boss and then try to remember what cards were in the deck I destroyed.
If there was a way to quickly save/load then I would really only need a couple deck slots, just load up the decks you want to play and away you go.
More deck slots please..
I'm a little disappointed about no new keywords. Even one new keyword for the entire expansion would have been exciting since there are so many cards planned.
The real solution is not more deck slots. More deck slots means more clutter. Older decks sitting around gathering dust. You still have to manually enter decks if you delete them and want to use them again.
The solution is being able to SAVE and LOAD decks from our systems and being able to trade deck FILES with other players. If you can save and load decks into Hearthstone, then you have virtually infinite deck slots.
This would be amazing!
Replays not being work on? Oh come on Blizzard, make it happen!
Observer mode will be a great addition, Some deckslots will be nice also!
I think the folks on this forum are the more active, minor, vocal part of the group and obviously play more as well as having more decks to play. However there are so many more players that run two or three decks in a casual way, not keeping up with all the changes, playing when they got a few minutes to spare and those don't need more than the available slots because they don't use them anyway.
I do have all slots occupied myself, but I'm not playing all the decks so frequently that I couldn't delete one and swap in what I need or want to try.
Sure it would be cool to have more slots just to not rebuild the deck if I want to play it and have the once in a while Paladin or Druid deck around, but ask yourself? Do you need the slots?
Yes. Yes, I do need more slots. :-)
With 9 classes in game you need at least 9 slots for just one deck for each class. So what we have at this moment is a bare minimum. Then if you factor in archetype variants like aggro/control, for some classes you will need 2-3 slots at least to cover those variants (for example, zoo & handlock for warlock, shockadin & control paladin, aggro, secret, frost mage etc). Most of those variants are totally different one from another and remaking them is a big pain. It's not a question if you need to tech two or three cards, most of the deck needs to be changed.
Also, current deckbuilder is not that good compared to competition (MMDoC comes to mind). It's not that fast to filter and find cards you want to include, and even with maximum of 30 cards you'll spend a couple of minutes building new deck. I'd rather build my decks once and then play the game instead of endless cycle of deleting and adding new decks because my slots are full.
So yes, we do need more slots!
Im looking forward to the Observer Mode.Going to be fun to watch the matches of friends, makes it a lot easier to share experience and be part of it.
Tournaments will be easier too!
User profile, basic and public information about the player. Wins/losses, favorite hero, best arena win, etc.
If you hover over my name you'll see a list that with an option that says "View User Profile". Click that and you'll see a page with some info about me. Like that, but in Hearthstone.
They underestimate us if they think giving a "maybe" is going to get us to shut up about deck slots!
I know they have a small dev team, but man, I really hope they can get some of this quality of life stuff pumped out in a timely fashion. It will be glorious when I have the ability to save and watch replays within the Hearthstone client. Glorious.
Good 'ol Hearthstone. I'm going to enjoy watching it grow and change.
I don't care about more deck slots, really. I'd like to be able to save a deck for later without it taking up a deck slot. That way I can work on one for a while and not have it take up space, or when I get tired of playing on (Ramp Druid for example), I can just save it and remove it from my slots.
More deck slots may be a better solution, or an easier solution, but either way it's a problem I think more people have than they think. And it's a problem that will get worse as they add more cards and more heroes.
I've no idea why you are being downvoted.
I too think that being able to save and load decks is a much more valuable feature than increased deck slots. If I can save and load decks, then I have infinite deck slots available to me at the touch of a button. The problem most people have with limited deck slots is having to rebuild decks all the time.
I look at the saving and loading of decks slots akin to writing them down on paper like you would do for a physical card game. It's the modern version of having a notebook of deck lists. Even after this interview, I really don't understand why Blizzard is so reluctant to implement this. What are the other two things on their list in the "top three" that take precedence?
