Dean Ayala on Shudderwock: Revisiting the Topic Early Next Week
Dean Ayala tweeted this evening that the team is going to be looking into Shudderwock feedback early next week.
How do you feel about Shudderwock? I can definitely agree with the animations being a bit on the long side and would definitely at least appreciate a less excruciating death.
Quote from Dean AyalaWe’ll be reading more feedback over the weekend and will revisit the Shudderwock topic early next week. Checking out both animation timings and feedback on the deck playstyle itself. Let us know what you think and enjoy Witchwood!
People are really overreacting to this combo, probably because of the animations that after a while really pisses them off.
It's not stronger than any other combo we've seen in the past and in shaman it's even worse because of their crappy draw, you need to draw 2 legendary minions and 4 more specific cards (that you can have 2-of), and what tools you have to do so? Mana Tide Totem that is OKish, and 2 glorified Gnomish Inventors that draw elementals\lowest cost minion.
Compare it to the draw arsenal of classes like Druid, Warrior, Rogue and warlock (or even mage and paladin) and you will see why combo shaman will never be truly good.
I would even go 1 step further and say that Quest combo druid (which is not amazing) without Kun outclasses Shudderwock OTK shaman in almost every aspect.
Something needs to be done about it. Not because it’s OP, but because it’s stupid.
Above all - the fact that the HS team is considering a balance change this early after the expansion release is absolutely amazing to me and I have to give them props. The last balance change took them 3 months to do( patches, Razakus Priest power) , so one week - fantastic !
Outside of seeing this card on the ladder and losing to it as a Control Warlock ( no DoomGuards , but other control cards instead ), I've seen this card bring a win to RDU vs Savjz last night. Practically, once the player gets in all his turns, there's not much his opponent can do. I'm certain that's NOT the type of card anyone wants to see.
On one side, the win rate doesn't seem that high - however, I believe that's because most people don't know how to play the deck right yet.
On another side, we know what it does, so if shaman can deal with the Aggro, and/if most shaman players improve their decks and possibly - their play, it's pretty much over. This cards could use a change for the better.
Noooooo no no no no no... Patches took more than 3 months to sort out.
That little thing aside though, totally agree. Good to see they're not going radio silent for a couple of months after the launch of the expansion. I'm sure we'll see an appropriate response in a timely manner :)
I'm not sure if they're worth to be given props to. If you stumbled upon the Kotaku interview where mr. Brode himself admitted he's a bit worried and that he actually tried to prevent it from being released as it is but the rest of the guys didn't listen to him, it's no wonder they're considering changes now so soon. I just feel there's something badly wrong with the priorities inside that dev team, or then it's just me perceiving things very differently. Often, when I see any interviews and such from them, I get the feeling that they're like 5 year old kids who don't really know what they're doing, but they're so enthusiastic about their own creations that the whole world should see them. Thus the principle of creating things that are "fun" (a direct quote from Peter Whalen) which allows them to basically do anything without being responsible of the results. If they'd do things more from a balance or competitive perspective, I suppose the end result would be totally different.
The deck is fairly weak overall, but falls into the same vein as Quest Rogue, where it's just obnoxious to play against if you don't rush them down instantly. It doesn't help that losing to the deck takes FOREVER
I want an OP broken card. It's less boring, what's wrong with going wild with your design. Okay... the animation is long as shit, just make it shorter.
A lot of Rank 20 ResidentSleepers crying here LUL
Thanks Dean, I have been enjoying your new expansion apart from THIS 1 FUCKING CARD that completely breaks any fun, challenge or ability to react. Play a face deck or lose to Shaman? Thanks for the choice.
Shudderwock isn't the 'Great card, well designed' legendary you are looking for. If your QA team aren't already fired then you need to sack off whoever came up with this card
one fix would be to put a cap on the number of battlecries.
may be only play the battlecries of the previous turn
Well not exactly leave the game, but instant concede every time i see shaman. By the time the animation is over, i can play two more games. Btw i got Shudderwock as my free class legendary so fml.
This card is NOT op. Play the deck yourself and see how many times you just get bent over by aggro.. if you think its op then stop watching clickbait youtube titles saying it is
its a good combo deck but it takes soe turns to do this
17-1 score...
The fact is the deck itself is not OP. I think it's a very fair combo deck. You have plenty of time to kill Shaman before they can complete the combo. However the animation is so so long. It makes playing against or even using it very boring after a while. Blizzard really need considering speeding up card's animation in HS. We are having so many long animations now.
bliz released this expansion with low power level, due to reasons! and decided to toss a card too crazy to spice up the meta then nerf it a couple of weeks in so we will have some sort of change, and when we do have a powerful card nerf we get a new meta, with the new meta HS will feel fresh again and people will get excited.
conspiracy theory 2.0
Early next week... how about re-evaluating your work process?
How this broken card was release in this expension is beyond me... Are there no testing at all?
Why wait? Sort the card now so we can all get back to playing... I am not logging in until sorted.
Next week. Unbelievable...
and thus mtur never played hearthstone again
The meta takes time to settle. Imagine if they had nerfed the hunter quest the third day it was out... Theoretically, there could be a shudderwock hard counter deck that no one has found yet
