Arena Only Cards from BlizzCon to be Added "In a Few Months"
If you've been wondering when we'd see the special Arena Cards shown during BlizzCon, partially wonder no more! With replies from both Ben Brode and Mike Donais over the weekend on the question, it sounds like we'll be getting them before the new expansion hits, likely during the lull where they need to make Hearthstone spicier.
If you forgot what the cards were, here you go!
Brode and Donais Respond
Quote from Ben Brode and Mike DonaisWhat happened to "Arena only" card's that were shown on Blizzcon?
It’s still coming! (Ben Brode)
We are going to add them to arena in a few months. (Mike Donais)
They will be added right before the next expansion so that players are enticed to blow the gold they saved for packs on arena tickets so that they are more inclined to purchase packs for money.
We do it then usually because it’s when people are most bored with constructed. We just focus on making the game as fun as possible, and keeping the game fresh and interesting is an important goal for us.
Often we discuss the dip in excitement around “month 3” of the expansion cycle, and how to make the game more fun in that period. Cool events is one of those tools. Sometimes it’s an Arena event, but it was Double-Gold once too. We have some other fun ideas still to come! (Ben Brode)
Im just interested to see if Crackling Doom will be able to propel Shaman into a tier 1 on its own or not. It will be quite an interesting experiment.
A funny event but maybe if they want to resolve the "issue" of 3rd month-boringness they should just (and finally) rework the Ladder system so that is not just a time-consuming grind that make players just go away after the freshness of a new expansion set has gone.
Giving us spot events now and then is perfectly ok, but everyone will enjoy more a better and continuative HS experience overall I think.
I'm really excited for the animation of Crackling Doom
The sound effect will at the very least be of Ben eating potato chips.
i also want to see the golden versions, beeing only arena cards maybe it will be get leveling up the heroes as basics
totally forgot they were gonna even add these
Crackling Doom is my new favorite OMG card :D
What was their process for designing these cards? The priest card, for example, I'm OK with drawing 3 cards, but was donating a minion really the best effect? What made them think we needed that? And not that we can't build around it or just use it successfully -- it's definitely playable, I just wanted to know the design behind the card.
EDIT: Thanks for the downvotes. I'm just curious. Who knew asking a question would be so offensive.
--And Oh yea, I forgot that Blizzcon did votes for the cards. Very interesting that this one was the winner.
It won't be spicy unless we see 1x ticket + 2 free card packs per week during a 2 week event :)
I still just want Rod of Roasting although Bottled Madness, I like the cut of those giblets.
The problem with trying to bring fun back into the game like this is that it un-incentives them from making the game just better. If they have to have extra ways to make the game fun it means something is fundamentally wrong with the game itself.
the crowd at blizzcon picked so badley there were much better options but they were casuals who wanted fun
these cards are OP.
that's the point
Players - "Arena is skill-based and teaches newbies, how to play and value trade!"
Blizzard - "aReNa iS sKiLl_bAsEd..."
