What's on Your Hearthstone Wishlist for 2018?
Last year, Iksar tweeted asking everyone what they wanted to see for 2017 and we posted about it to see what you wanted to see in 2017. so let's do it again!
HearthPwnians, what stuff do you want to see from the game next year?
Flux's Wishes for Hearthstone 2018
Having a two-line news post felt like a terrible way to get the discussion going, so here's what I want to see.
A New Druid Hero
It feels so wrong that we only saw three new heroes during 2017. After Prince Arthas came out with Knights of the Frozen Throne, and although the flavor was great for the expansion, we still were left with 2 classes that were still missing an alternate hero. Fast forward to October, just over two months later, Warlocks finally received a new hero in the form of the adorable gnome, Nemsy Necrofizzle.
Druid is now the odd one out and we've got no idea when we're going to see an additional face for the class. Hopefully, the method of acquiring the new Druid hero won't leave us kicked to the curb like Nemsy did with broken Fireside Gatherings and requiring us to be social / grab a GPS spoofer.
I'm not even going to bring up the topic of each class not having an easily accessible alternative hero, that's for another day.
More Cosmetics
Let players show off more! It would be great to see a mix of obtainable in-game cosmetic items and those that could come from a shop.
- There's definitely more room for new card backs coming out of various criteria.
- Let us obtain flair for our names. This could be displayed beside/under our name.
- Flair could provide a slot to showcase a statistic (like lifetime brawl wins, lifetime 12 arena win runs, highest legend rank).
- Flair could also just be a fancy badge that showcases something you achieved or purchased.
- More fancy board elements for heroes. Why stop at 500 wins, the counter doesn't!
Some ideas for cool things they could add:
- A card back to the shop that costs 10,000 gold. The entire point of it is to showcase your wealth. Level it up by spending another 10k gold.
- Something unique for getting all nine heroes to 500 wins. You're already tracking this, make up a card back!
- Reward players with a card back who have obtained Legend multiple times. The Golden Legend Cardback!
- Golden hero borders that could evolve to be hit with more sparkle. Adorn them with class-specific flair like a frost effect for Mages which gets better the more wins with the class you have.
- Name flair for all the basic stats available - total wins, total arena wins, and others that are certainly available internally.
- Name flair from the shop that could let you better represent your favourite <x>. A flashy Hunter trap, a cute little Murky face.
- Think of it as if they were a traditional avatar - they could even show up on your friends list!
- Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm, StarCraft II, and StarCraft Remastered all have avatars. Even Diablo III does if you consider Avatar Borders. EVEN DIABLO THREE!
- Interactables that could be on your side of the gameboard - extra stuff to play with! Buy 'em in the shop and have some rewarded for completing cool
achievementsquests.
This is just a small piece of the overall cosmetic puzzle; The important thing here is to help bring more uniqueness to the game. There are certainly better ideas out there that I am certain we'll see in the comments below.
Additional Unique Tavern Brawls
Back in September, I touched upon Tavern Brawls being too repetitive. I personally feel that over half the brawls being repeats is not a great way to truly figure out the mode and ultimately leads to more negative vocal reactions here and elsewhere in the community. That negativity has without a doubt resulted in more players becoming jaded when it comes to the game as a whole which without a doubt cannot be good.
By having more new brawls added to the game, we can consistently enjoy new experiences with Hearthstone and will hopefully see less negative discussion about the Hearthstone team being "lazy". That negative public perception that is picked up across the web and in the faces of potential new players certainly isn't a good thing and is hopefully taken into consideration when they decide what to toss up next.
While we're at it, seeing more stats on brawls overall would be wonderful. The last time we saw brawl play-rates was back at BlizzCon 2015.
A Friendlier Community
There's a lot of negativity within all the hot places for Hearthstone discussion and although a lot of is without a doubt justified, we should all try and be more constructive with our comments.
- Personal attacks against game developers, pros, and even your fellow players are not getting us anywhere and is the area with the largest room for improvement.
- Saying a card, deck, or play is terrible/shit/cancer doesn't actually help anyone. Explain your process to encourage discussion and teach others.
- Quit the political and regional attacks. Stuff can't always come out at the same time everywhere and discussion of subtropical fruit doesn't contribute to gaming discussions.
These things not only apply to Hearthstone but to other games you play and communities you are a part of.
Just remove Priest from this game. Nothing more :)
I will like a new druid hero
You want a friendlier community? You won't get it as long as there are rank chest rewards. As long as they exist, for a f2p/budget player every opponent will be another sucker that stands in the way to 400 dust.
You won't get a friendlier community unless the game becomes cheaper to play competitively - top decks are expensive, not everyone can afford them so they call them shit/cancer.
You won't get a friendlier community with the current arena format. When someone gets 7 wins, that means that there were guys who didn't make it and lost their 150 gold.
And what's saddest Blizzard does not give a shit about community friendliness and the "how bad the meta is" chit-chat as long as you log in the game and do your routine
You also won't get a friendlier community while people are whining that the game rewards players for doing well/spending time playing. Like how is the ranked chest a bad thing? You should look at it as free dust every month lol. And how is arena being a high risk high reward mode a bad thing either? Thats literally the point of that mode.
Also why does everyone seem to think it's so expensive to get a competitive deck? I spend 10-20 bucks per expansion and end up with several of them each time (currently have 5). And without spending a dime, I'm sure you can get at least 1 or 2. Hell you usually just need to add a few cards to make an old deck viable again after each release (see aggro druid. It's essentially remained the same since ungoro). As an f2p/budget player, you just have to accept that there are gonna be some decks that are out of your price range (otherwise you wouldn't be a budget player).
There are problems in hearthstone, but 3 out of 4 of your points are non-issues.
1. I didn't say that a ranked chest is a bad thing. People do treat it as a free dust. But to get 400 dust you need to grind. And cause you have to grind, a lot of people won't have good thoughts about opponents that stay in their way.
2. I didn't say say arena is a bad thing. But because it's a high risk high reward format now, a lot of people will not be friendly towards their opponents, who didn't allow them to get a 12 win run.
3. Of course that you can get a quite cheap deck to climb. But that means more grind than with top tier deck. And people will get tillted after loosing again and again against highlander, jade, cube whatever top decks are played in current meta with their not so bad cheap deck.
My post was not about issuses with hs gameplay, but why i think that there is so much negativity in community.
A Troll-centric expansion, I'm still waiting for a Mando'kir card...
Druid Alternate hero - Hamuul Runetotem.
Also, a troll hero skin, any class. Too many humans, orcs, and elves. Not enough diversity.
A reduced rope timer down to around 45-60 secs, with a button that can extend time limit by 30 sec as needed (with limited reuses). Too many people just rope as a way to BM when things aren't going their way, or they try to waste time hoping you'll just get bored and quit so they can steal a win.
Finally fix Fireball (Make it 5 damage for 5 mana).
For those of us that want to someday get at least some of our collections filled out with golden cards, significantly reduce the crafting cost, or increase dust value
holy shit, even in games about fictional races we have to be blasted by all this diversity
Better balance, because it will inevitably cause more variety in the competitive aspect of the game, which is the one with better improvement room.
More cosmetics and cool flair items like mentioned
Booty bay pirates expansion, more murlocs... maybe even a full blown murloc expansion.. I think you could fit them into a pirate thing pretty safely though.
also I'd like more cards, please... golden legendaries to be precise.
The devs to be actually competent and listen to the community. They should also be supporting the new player experience by not nerfing the basic set unless absolutely necessary like warsong commander and not the hex nerf.
Wild packs and Adventures purchase with in game gold.
Separate heroes into Alliance and Horde with faction-specific heroes for each class and unique hero powers. Create a ladder that pairs Alliance against Horde and keep statistics each month for which faction is winning. Have players who play this ladder declare their allegiance at the beginning on each year and provide rewards to the winning faction. This could lead to interesting eSports as well.
I'd like to be able to sort my decks without having to delete and remake them.
- More deck slots: 9 slots per class would be great!
- Heroic Brawls with new rulesets. The regular Tavern Brawl has a different rule each week, so why not the Heroic version? Heroic rulesets could encourage more epic gameplay as an alternative to the more casual-focused Tavern Brawl, and would test players' deckbuilding skill instead of merely being a carbon copy of Constructed mode. Some random examples: 1) Heroes start with 60hp and upgraded Hero Powers; 2) Each deck must contain at least 10 legendary minions; or 3) Each deck contains 60 cards.
Yes, more deck slots organized by class would be very nice.
I want to be able to buy dust not card packs full of bloat solely to Disenchant them into Dust for the cards we actually need.
I want a game play type somewhere between standard and wild. Something akin to a "Modern" format.
I really appreciate that Blizzard now gives away one of the class legendaries at the beginning of a new expansion, but i would really like to see them giving us the choice of what legendary to pick.
Like letting us chose with what class we want to play the prologue and then giving us the fitting legendary.
Im f2p and i was dissapointed by the last to legendaries i got, because both of them were for classes i just dont play, so i had to dust them and that felt really bad.
