Season One Has Begun

The first official ranked season of Hearthstone has started today, and with it, comes some things which were datamined in the previous patch.

Upon logging in for the first time this season, your rank will be automatically set based on your previous progression through the ladder. For each rank you earned, you will receive one star to get yourself started. For example, if you reached rank 10 last season, you will be receiving 15 stars, which will put you at rank 19. This mechanism was introduced to put the high ranking players away from the low ranking players at the start of the season to help with the "easy wins".

Earn New Card Backs!

There are a couple of new card backs being introduced this season that you can earn through playing ranked. The first card back that you can earn is the Pandaria card back. The Pandaria card back is earned through participating in ranked mode and getting to level 20 before the end of the season. This card back will be distributed to all players eligible beginning with season 2.

The second card back which is now unlocked is the Legend card back. This card back will be added to your collection upon reaching Legend rank in Hearthstone, so prepare yourselves for an epic ride to Legend. To help out with the grind, you should take some of the  top decks from the past week for a spin.

Card backs can be changed through the options menu.

Fight for Glory

In a recent post on season one, Zeriyah stated that top players in the Legend rank will be invited to participate in a tournament later this year. It looks like Legend is going to mean a lot more than just bragging rights now!

We’ll be inviting top Legend players to participate in a grand tournament later in the year to determine who will be the next world renowned Grandmaster of the Hearth. Invites will be based on performance from each Ranked Play season, so hone your skills and do your best! More details will be announced at a later time.
