New Mage Card Reveal: Deck of Wonders
A new epic Mage card has been revealed by GameInformer!
- These random spells do not count toward things like Open The Waygate or spell trigger cards like Violet Teacher.
- You can't pick the targets.
- The spells can be from any class, much like a Yogg-Saron trigger.

"Cast a random spell. Draw a card. Cast this when drawn." Okay so what is the ruling here. When a minion says "Cast a random spell." You are not casting that spell, the minion is casting that spell, and the targets are chosen randomly. What happens when a spell says cast a random spell? Is the spell casting a spell? Holy fork! Now when it says Cast this when drawn? WHO IS CASTING IT? If it is the player you should expect to spend 5 mana as the scrolls cost 5 right? I think blizzard wants this to synergize with 5 or more casting cost spell requirement cards, but the wording become really inaccurate. Why is ambush worded differently? Ambush is never cast? So that specification means SOMEONE is casting the scroll. In other words if this doesn't spend mana, than I guess it doesn't matter and Blizzard will keep wording things poorly... : ( Also its a pretty sick card...
I think it works like Ambush!, but is worded differently because the original Ambush! doesn't do anything when you cast it from your hand since Ambush! only says 'when you draw this..."
However, if Scroll of Wonder ends up in your hand some other way (Thoughtsteal for instance), you can cast it from your hand and its effect will actually go off, unlike Ambush!.
I doubt this will cost 5 mana unless it is cast from your hand, and therefore would not trigger the (5) mana cost effects.
EDIT: Also note that the new Spider Ambush! is worded the same way.
So many random crap this expansion. Y U no like us, Blizzard?
While I'm not a fan of the RNG elements to this card, it's nice to see more cards being added that provide benefits to control oriented playstyles that don't rely on the oppressiveness of combos. With elemental / secret mage, chances are you're going to be able to draw most of these during a match, gaining value greater than the initial 5 mana cost that you had to pay. An interesting card, unreliable of course, but worth keeping an eye on I think.
It's equally likely to pyroblast your opponent. Given the majority of cards benefit the caster either by targeting enemies or providing benefits for you, it's incredibly unlikely this card won't give you value.
Yogg wannabe...
I really like the art. It looks like they design another card game and put it on this card's art to me. Interesting thing is, Scroll of Wonder has great synergy with Grand Archivist.
This card is fun, not good. Cast 5 random spells over time so DOOM / Explore Ungoro / UI / Cataclysm / Devour Mind all when you have 8 or more cards in hand and still need key cards to over draw. Its good with quest mage but bad as it can make you lose the game after playing it. and you darw ater the cast so ui from this would be 6 cards.
Something for your Grand Archivist to play around with, I guess.
Looks like 5xCataclysm
2 of these, a bunch of cheap spells, Aluneth and Yogg-Saron, Hope's End.
Meme mage is born.
you most likely will choose the targets because it does not say targets are choosen randomly.
Random spells always choose targets randomly. As in you don’t even know what it will be how would it know which targets are valid beforehand...
I would have to believe that targets are chosen randomly, because your opponet could cause you to draw during their turn, and the game crashes whenever you are prompted to choose something on your opponet's turn.
But how if they not gonna play this card?
does anyone know if it lets you cast the spell manually.
since it doesn't say " cast it with random targets" the way i understand it is when you draw the spell, it lets you target your enemy if its not aoe(flamestrike) like a fireball to the face?
can anyone confirme please?
thanks man, guess we get to polymorph our archmage antonidas then pogchamp
